I got a pair for my 8-year-old son and they've proven to be a good value for the money. He only wears them in the ring, or on the rubberized (mat) flooring at the gym. Contrary to all the negative rumors, the soles have yet to start to peel away from the upper and they're holding up well. But just in case that does happen, we have some Shoe Goo at the ready.
He jumps rope, does shadow boxing, footwork, defense, and boxing drills, mitt and bag work in them, and they're perfectly fine for all that. He has yet to spar in them, and as we're in no rush to push him into it, by the time we're truly ready for it, we'll surely upgrade to something better.
Despite all of the horror stories about having poor quality and falling apart, they've held up just as well as his gym mates' more expensive Nike, Adidas, and Mizuno boots. I'm not saying they're as good as those, just that they're not the complete waste of money that I often hear about.
I think most folks suffer from using their eyes and feelings over being objective about this. There's a certain amount of status and brand loyalty involved, and if we see our favorite champions using a certain brand and model, we're likely to be biased towards that brand and model.
The bottom line: I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these for any beginner or intermediate level (aspiring) boxer. If you use them for what they are designed for, they're a good value for the money.
