I don't think anyone outside of New Zealand will be able to comprehend what a novelty it is to hear someone speaking our accent. Everyone loves to have a crack at the American accent, British, Scottish, Indian, etc. but no one bothers to even attempt ours. Amy absolutely nails it.
Mike Williamson I totally agree! I swear a NZ accent is the least attempted when it comes to impressions etc. I always wondered if non-Kiwis would even be able to do it perfectly but this chick does it so well :o
Mike Williamson I’ve actually been trying to do New Zealand accent. It sounds REALLY beautiful and it’s very pleasant to listen to. I’m not 100% perfect at it especially because we don’t hear it much in NYC. I think it’s more common to hear the UK accent
I think it has to do, in part, with the level of exposure. All my life, I've heard UK accent(s), so I tend to imitate that more frequently. Some NZ pronunciations boggle my mind, but I want to learn them at the same time. I think I'll use the accent more once I get the hang of it.
+Kayla Collingwood That comment literally made my entire week. I was wondering why the way she spoke sounded so familiar and a little different at the same time but didn't know how to describe it. Because even though the accent was right, most people here don't enunciate their words that clearly, then realised which group of people talk like that when I saw your comment! #shoutouttothewellymums
I'm a kiwi and I have to say, well done! Almost every American I've seen trying to pull off the kiwi accent can't do it at all or they sound like an Aussie, but you nailed it. I thought you were a kiwi at the start, until you slipped back into your natural accent. You have an amazing talent, excellent job :D
When I first moved to Melbourne from Perth I had heaps of people asking am I from New Zealand, even a lady from there asked me that & said my accent was better than hers. There were a few New Zealand guys where I used to work.
I've lived in New Zealand my whole life and I could never pick up our accent but this opened my eyes haha. Nice job! I never noticed the "T" sound or the clipped vowels before. Keep it up!
This lady is beautiful and her accent is amazing. I'm a Canadian currently traveling through New Zealand and Kiwis are just the best. GREAT VIDEO AMY. THANKS !
You've nailed it, Amy. I've never heard a foreigner succeed before. Although we still manage to speak without opening our mouths. You look like you're talking to someone of whom your aware has a hearing problem and lip reads. But your pronunciation is perfect. Why would you possibly want to go back to your North American one?
As a New Zealander i would like to tell you that our accents are different depending on whether you are in the north island or the south island, you were doing an accent from the north island.
Best accent i've heard. The only thing is you sound very 'proper' like you are reading the news or something. Most of us speak faster and less clearly with words blended together.
As a New Zealander I found this hilarious. The Australian accent sounds more like Cockney, whereas I'm assuming the New Zealand accent sounds more Scottish.
I love these, NZ is my favorite place. Lived in Auckland for 3 years and moving back soon. I have family in the US ask me to do a Kiwi accent and what the difference is to the Aussie accent. I can't do it well, but maybe I'll practice with your help! I kind of explain it like a mumbly, softer and more constricted sounding Aus accent. I feel like I really have to constrict to do it, since in the US our accent is a lot looser and louder. Hard for me to do, even when I lived there and was surrounded by it!
hi amy, your kiwi accent is so good! what amazes me is that Americans are more prone these days to saying "thank yo" for "thank you", and we kiwis always say "thank yu" - you "or yo" may have noticed that in recent years! cheers from NZ.
Bahh.. I'm so great with accents, but when it comes to Aussie, Kiwi, and Cockney... They all just eventually turn into Cockney. I don't know, maybe it's because I have so many friends who speak that way that the other accents just melt into it naturally hahah. The middle and upper-class RP is fine for me and I can keep that up, but anything close to an Australian or New Zealand accent just goes bye bye within a few minutes and someone's I don't even notice it. I'm gonna have to really, really practice this. I always practice the most when traveling haha, at restaurants or when asking directions. Such a great way to practice because if you mess it up you never have to see them again and you get a learning experience! Ha! Cheers, girl. You are amazing! 😊
You're really good! The best kiwi accent imitation I've heard! Should do a vid on the Southern Kiwi accent from the Deep South. It's quite distinct from the general kiwi accent. Give it a go 😉
Hi Amy, well done for mastering our accent! I'm a big fan of your tutorials. I hear that you are a dialect coach, what kind of studies did you do to get there? I'm considering a Master in Phonetics .
Nice work Amy - from a Kiwi bloke. I love your 'arsenal of pleasantries' idea from previous vids. I have an American mate who was enamoured with "Sweet Az"expression. He kept sayin "sweet ass" making him sound like a unsavoury bloke I knew called `Pervey Pete'. Attempt the NewZild accent at your peril.
Hey Amy, I know the chance of you reading this and responding is very low, but there is something unique in the NZ Dark L, If you can make a video on that it'll be great. Thanks
One sound you missed occasionally was the e->a shift when it occurs before "l", e.g. our keputul sutty "Wallungton". Another example is the name of our former dictator "Hallen Clark".
You haven't heard people from invercargil have you? They have a pretty unusual accent also different parts of new zealand sound different but at least you didn't talk like a full on maori boy who sounds like he should belong on bro town cuz when people do that its offensive ( other new Zealanders will understand ) but gotta admit not bad for an american.
Don't teach people the New Zealand accent. It's disgusting. I'm a New Zealander I hate my accent. The 19th century early to mid 20th accent was better but still bad.
I don't think anyone outside of New Zealand will be able to comprehend what a novelty it is to hear someone speaking our accent. Everyone loves to have a crack at the American accent, British, Scottish, Indian, etc. but no one bothers to even attempt ours. Amy absolutely nails it.
I have no idea who she is but she sounds like an English try to be a Kiwi she's so full of sh*t I can't believe it...
Mike Williamson I totally agree! I swear a NZ accent is the least attempted when it comes to impressions etc. I always wondered if non-Kiwis would even be able to do it perfectly but this chick does it so well :o
aaaaaaaa

Best NZ accent from a non-Kiwi I've ever heard. Awesome!
as a kiwi, it sounds like her american accent is the one she is putting on, this is so buzzy! her kiwi accent is on point!
I like to think of this as the "Wellington mum" accent
+Kayla Collingwood That comment literally made my entire week. I was wondering why the way she spoke sounded so familiar and a little different at the same time but didn't know how to describe it. +Bubba Finau OMG YES.
Haha aw yo major throw back man!!
It's our time! Kia Ora! Talofa! It's our time, our special time of day! 💗
It does sound like Suzy Kato or play school
HO-LEY-SHIT. This is the first time that I have ever 100% truly believed someone doing the NZ accent. Incredible. I tip my hat.
Not shut, not sheeet, shi-hit.
JEE-SUS you are so right. I've never heard anyone do a Kiwi accent this well.
I've lived in New Zealand my whole life and I could never pick up our accent but this opened my eyes haha. Nice job! I never noticed the "T" sound or the clipped vowels before. Keep it up!
Your Kiwi accent is amazing - Just spot on mate! Keep it up!

Good point. I never thought of that.
I'm a kiwi and that was pretty much perfect
I'm a kiwi and i'm learning how to speak my own language lol
Amy, you NAILED our ekcent!!! 😁💗💗💗
No one from other country's has been able to do the kiwi accent but you WERE SO GOOD I COULDNT BELIEVE IT!!
Best accent i've heard. The only thing is you sound very 'proper' like you are reading the news or something. Most of us speak faster and less clearly with words blended together.
lol unreal! especially when you switch it up with all three accents. Super cool!
OMG this is actually what we sound like haha
Yip not too shabby at all Amy!
I love the NZ accent some of it's similar to southern Scottish. .in my view I'm a weegie/Islay cross lol!
ima kiwi..youre so good lol nailed it!! funny to hear how its broken down lhaha
Man, you nail it. That's impressive
As a New Zealander I found this hilarious.
The Australian accent sounds more like Cockney, whereas I'm assuming the New Zealand accent sounds more Scottish.

You are great!! I really enjoyed this and very impressed to hear an American do such a great job at the Kiwi accent :))
hi amy, your kiwi accent is so good! what amazes me is that Americans are more prone these days to saying "thank yo" for "thank you", and we kiwis always say "thank yu" - you "or yo" may have noticed that in recent years! cheers from NZ.
This is spot on!
This is so good except idk.. The way you say New Zealand sounds so strange, idk. Other than than you sound like the typical north islander
Ha ha ha im a Kiwi and love this "Choice one" Got ya bits n bobs dear"

Love these Australian/Kiwi tips! :)
Hi Amy, well done for mastering our accent! I'm a big fan of your tutorials. I hear that you are a dialect coach, what kind of studies did you do to get there? I'm considering a Master in Phonetics .
You sound like Lucy Lawless when you do kiwi.. even your facial expressions are her. Its epic and kinda freaky. :D
Nice work Amy - from a Kiwi bloke. I love your 'arsenal of pleasantries' idea from previous vids. I have an American mate who was enamoured with "Sweet Az"expression. You're amazing! How about a south African tutorial?! Please!!
I'm a kiwi and have lived in NZ for all my life and you sound very kiwi :] you sound more kiwi than i do!! :]
Astonishing . More NZ than a lot of NZers.
Hey Amy, I know the chance of you reading this and responding is very low, but there is something unique in the NZ Dark L, If you can make a video on that it'll be great. Thanks
On point!!

The Australian "good" vowel almost sounds like it has the "oo" of the word "food" to me
***** k

Anyone else here because they want to add a character with a NZ accent into their D&D game?
She does the bogan nz accent where she over exaggerates some vowels. Its hard to explain unless you actually hear different region accents.
