A really useful video and well presented. I have learned more about macro work in this one than any other I've watched. No annoying style of presentation and no musac. Brilliant. More please.

I am just getting into macro photography and this is one of the best and easy to follow series I’ve come across on RUclips thus far. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise!

Hi Ross, very nice simple & informative video. Your sincere down to earth approach wants one to follow the video to the end. Concise and precious. Thank you very much.

Surprised to see no diffuser or mention of external flash. Most macro photographers are obsessed with both of those things!

I would add two or three plastic clothes pegs, ideal for moving things out of the way, especially in public gardens, and a small soft artists paint brush, great for cleaning dirt etc off the likes of fungi, both cost next to nothing

Rather than shooting freehand with a macro lens (I do not use tripods), I've found that shooting with a much longer focal lanegth can achieve a lot of great shots and with a focus you can not normally get with a macro lens. My favorite lens for this is currently the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 : 500px.com/w00ster/galleries/nikon-200-500mm
And rather than use a reflector, I often use a white towel to diffuse light and reflect it back on the flowers.

Im thinking of getting G80 with focus stacking built in. I was wondering if the 200mm nikon will fit or is there any other long macro lenses i use with G80?
    Thanx

I used to use the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro lens on my G80 & that worked really well. Its give you approx 120mm in 35mm terms and is very sharp with good detail and colours plus lovely creamy bokeh.

He doesn't keep one in his bag. However, if you want some tripod action, stay tuned to the series. There will be tripod.
