My people, the people of Isleta Pueblo went to LA to help build his home.
It's so cool to see pictures of my pueblo in this way
Amazing person! Maybe the first person defending and cleaning the Spanish history in America, the real one.
Wow! I just visited his house yesterday and this was very enlightening although the docent at museum and same guy in this video was an awesome wealth of knowledge! Highly suggest a visit to his house
Excelente escritor Charles Lummis.
Wonderful presentation. i would have loved to have met him and attended one of his "noises". Thanks KCET for the excellence.
So awesome. Very cool to learn about Lummis. Thank you for this video!
all i can say is wow
What a fascinating person. I was inspired to learn more about him after reading an article about him and El Alisal in the current issue of Angelus magazine. I was very intrigued by the idea of those wax cylinder recordings. I'm glad that they did let us hear one at the end. 54:34 Did he record himself singing these songs? The person on the recording doesn't sound like someone who speaks Spanish as a first language. Too much aspiration on the d and c sounds.
Oh definately this person did not speak spanish as a first language. Vowels are completely English, they are not the pure vowels of Spanish.
If anyone here actually cares about the history of their country, read The Spanish Pioneers by Lummis. I am amazed at how all those speaking in this documentary only mention in passing the Hispanic legacy in the native peoples of the US. That last song was sung in Spanish, btw.
what's the music from 47:25 - 52:22 ?
I was wondering myself. Haunting piece! I believe it was composed by Ari Balouzian, who frequently does music for KCET programs. Check out the series City Walk!
Lower California = Baja California JaJaJa 🤣
