Because a Haka is much more then just a war cry. There are many many differnet types of hakas for sports, challenges, weddings, funerals, greetings, heaps of schools in NZ have their own Haka, all different Hapus of different tribes have their own Haka. I hate comparing cultures like this but, an Indigenous war cry does not the same 'type' of significance as a Haka does. There isn't really an appropriate comparison in other cultures. You'll find that most peoples are copying the Maori and there Haka, when they perform something like this. Samoa and Tonga have their own similar tradition. But it is very much based on the Maori Haka. The Haka is an integral part of Maori culture. An indigenous war cry is in no way similar or comparable to the Maori Haka in both cultural significance and meaning. Its pretty much just for the spectacle of sport. and specifically this exact NRL All Stars game.
JJ PRODUCTIONZ There’s many different types of haka bro and contrary to popular belief, they weren’t all used for war. If you want to be picky about it, whilst it looks good on TV, these guys are actually not performing it correctly at all. They are performing a haka taparahi, a haka which is meant to be a very disciplined and restrained in action. These haka were traditionally used before battle, often performed by a war party in front of their own tribe before heading out to battle. The idea was to show unity and strength but most importantly, discipline and obedience. Elders and tohunga (priests) would judge the performances and if a warrior was too out of touch with the unity of the haka, then they would not be allowed to go. At the beginning of the haka where you see them line up and them all performing pūkana etc, this would traditionally not have been done. They would have waited for the call from their kaitātaki to signal what to do. It looks cool on a sports field but in a historical context and in a general kapa haka context, it looks really disjointed.
Still blows me away Australia hasn't embraced their culture, and all sports teams perform their own lands war cry, I'm a kiwi, and i always love to see aboriginals showcase their culture...

Many of them refuse to sing out of respect for their culture. The anthem doesn't represent their people but the people who took their lands, stole their families and tried to destroy their culture
Serious question. The Maori really did do the haka (lots of different haka) in history. My question is did aboriginals do a war cry? Or are the copying riding on the popularity and respect of the haka?
Yeah man the aboriginals did have a war cry ..if there was a simple dispute between members from different tribes they would normally sort it out 1v1 or the head of the clan / tribe would punish there own if they had crossed the line & disrespected another aboriginal either from there own or another tribe ..but if tribal law was broken between tribe's they would go to war and both tribes would have a war cry as a declaration of war
How would you now mate are you and Australian aboriginal ? Or are you just a jealous hater ? I no for a FACT that is true %110 I no of countless tribes in Australia that had & still have songs lines/ war cry's for war they also had specific paint ups for war meaning they would use certain colours and designs when going to war ..for example my people the noonuccal tribe of quandamooka would paint them selves all black with charcoal and use red ocre to paint there nose ..this represents maroochy/ the black swan our Bird of war..this paint up was only ever used in times of war and with that our songs / war cry's ..so you should just hang your head in shame you fool..you no nothing of our culture nobody does because the whole purpose of the white man was to eliminate our culture..so tell me do you think the same people that tried to eliminate my people & culture would document or do anything to preserve it ???
