Great tutorial! One note, you changed the grid padding to 17, 17 and I would assume the other sections are not adjusted. So if all of them are set to 17, 17 it should work the way you show to have a desktop split section and be able to have the same padding on mobile.
The difference I was referring to was between sections that have "fill screen" toggled on and therefore use grid cells to add space around the content compared to sections that don't have it toggled on which Squarespace adds padding to create the space around the content. Those two different types of sections will never have consistent spacing around the content since the height of a grid cell will never perfectly equal the padding Squarespace adds. Does that make sense? I think my clarity wasn't great during that bit
Tha is for doing this chris. I’m surprised at myself but I quite love fluid! I’m a pretty flown visual designer and when I see it how I want it then I know it’s right (my design I mean) so it really works for my brain. I hope they fix up the tablet view soon too. Oh and your button orientation fix on mobile was clever. I’ll have to remember that.
Yeah I really hope they give us tablet editing. It sounds like they are reluctant because it means more opportunity for us to mess up the layout/more work. But sites I'm building are looking pretty awful at the in between sizes so we really need it
As of right now grouping blocks is not possible, but it is something that Squarespace is considering implementing in the future. That would really help some of the strange spacing issues that occur.
The new fluid engine is such garbage. Takes me way longer to do anything and the consistency in spacing is gone. So much for having a professional looking website.
I agree that the spacing issues are critical and need to be addressed. I am liking it more and more now though from a perspective of being able to create more custom websites with less CSS. When 7.1 came out it was a bit of a Rocky rollout as well and it turned out good, so hopefully fluid engine will just keep getting better and better.
I don't use Wix personally, but FE certainly needs some refining. I know they are working on things to try to improve spacing and alignment so we'll see where it goes in the future.
Thanks for coming out with this so fast, Chris! Love the free form style tutorial - very helpful!
I'm so glad! I will consider more like this then!
Very helpful thank you so much. Was so hard to find info about the rows in squarespace
I’m so glad! No problem!
Thanks for the review of the new Fluid highpoints, Chris! Very happy for the new DT and mobile (independent) layout possibilities.
Thanks for watching! I can't wait for the new features to be released and for it to get ironed out a bit more!
I appreciate your video to help me figure out how to use this feature. I like the flexibility it offers, and one probably can get used to it quickly.
yeah I am already really liking it in many ways! We just really need a tablet view!

Hello Chris... can you make an example of a website using this layout engine? thanks
Yes! I have a video coming out next Tuesday about a build I did in Fluid engine
Is it possible to wrap text around an image? For example, if you wanted to wrap your "Title" paragraph around the image?
As of right now it is not possible. I know that is a common complaint and something they are aware of. But no word on a fix timeline.
This looks so good! Hope they add it for non-English languages soon, since it seems I can't use it for my main site no matter what :(
Yeah I'm sure they will release it for all languages once they iron out some of the current issues with it. Hopefully soon!
Thanks.
No problem! I hope it was helpful!
How can I merge both text block and button into one block, also if I want to add icon/image in the same block? show me if it is possible somehow🙏🙏

Awesome ! But also with lots of bugs...
Absolutely. I do not envy the Squarespace dev teams who are no doubt scrambling to fix everything!

This kind of feels outdated compared to Wix
