  • In the 1760s and 1770s the Appalachian frontier attracted explorers, hunters, and trappers from the east. The best known of those longhunters was Daniel Boone, but he was far from the only one.
Today we begin to tell the story of an Appalachian frontiersman who is well-known in those states that border the Ohio River, Simon Kenton.

For those listening I’m guessing you like frontier history . There’s a great book an read a school book with references and footnotes of actual locations of where things accursed. The Book title is The Frontiersman. The story is slightly different and much more detailed than this story. This book also covers more than Kenton.

Last part of my research he named by captian henry after village Kenton in England.high school in his name opened since 1936 Simon Kenton high school. Simon was captured by Shawnee on north side of Ohio , spent over month in captivity, being forced to run what was known as gauntlet. As many as nine times condemned to die . Shawnee named him cut - ta- ho - tha means condemned man . He was severely wounded after ritual torture. He wax saved by his long time friend Simon girty who convinced Shawnee to adopt Kenton as one of their own . I hope you like my research. Iam so sorry to be little long but reading and writing both great ways to improve our English as none native. Happy mother day to you. We celebrated mother Day In Arabic countries as well as England last March and you in USA and Canada on May it’s different date around world. Best wishes for you your family friends.

I stopped at a historical marker in Ohio. The sign said it was near the site where Kenton ran a gauntlet.

In total, he was forced to run 9 gauntlets, with the last one at a village near what's now Sandusky. Would that be where you saw the marker?
