Let us hope for a time when we can look back upon our current times as a necessary breakdown needed for a wake-up buildup. A bad dream that we needed to experience.
Why should our rulers kill millions of people so that they can institute their ideal society? I can assure Stalin's vision of a beautiful future when he sacrificed 50 million was much the same. The final line shouldn't have been 'no one is sacrificed'. What they actually meant is no one is sacrificed again. They think it is okay for us to be murdered with their vaccines and their viruses and their lockdowns so that they can build their beautiful idealistic future. Wake up!
This is a compelling and creative video, and I appreciate this story for the visions of solidarity and reciprocity it dares to dream. However, ultimately, I’m not sure whether representing such an idyllic future, even if the road there is shown to be very painful - helps us to grapple with the struggles in which we find ourselves? Who are these humans who have somehow overcome internecine conflict, who have surmounted the constitutive contradictions that inhabit the struggles of the self and the ego? The new paradigm seems nostalgic for a kind of eden that humans have always cast forward, or located externally, throughout the ages. Perhaps the conversations we need to engage at this time revolve around the nostalgia for what perhaps was never humanly possible, and what increasingly will never be planetarily possible. In a world where extinction of plants, insects, corals… entire ecosystems -- is happening so fast, we cannot really know what survival will look like. I am grateful for this video’s effort to inspire us to go on, and at the same time have to question how we might more radically embody and represent the type of hope that Jonathan Lear explores in his book, Radical Hope. In the face of the magnitude of collapse underway, ways of being on this planet that many of us may hold dear or rely upon, are and will continue to simply cease to happen. How do we live with that?
we fight for what we believe in, that's how- even to death. If we hate egoism and corruption and profit making and exploitation enough, we will not be stopped.
I think your own comment hit the answer. We need to look inside and "think small" if we want to solve the socio-political issues. The body is a composite of many parts with the soul at their head. A sick soul means a sick body. The community/country (aka political body) is composed of many parts, but is it so clear who is leading them? And is that leadership focused on the collective "soul"/culture, or on meeting material needs and satisfying citizens' fear/desire? Bottom up solutions require us to start with the ego and the self and teach them moderation if we want to reform the culture, which needs moderation in the extreme if we want to extend our planetary stay
The USSR wanted to build it, but few people in the world understood it. The Soviet Union suffered many heavy losses and mistakes because it was surrounded. Now the world itself comes to this, confirming the ideas of Marx. I'm happy to see it. Proletarians of all countries unite
Why does the Intercept need to do a fundraiser? Isn't the owner of the Intercept a billionaire? Why doesn't he donate his money instead of being a hoarder sociopath?
I like the idea and form of this because I believe story-telling is important to help people re-envision the future. But this particular scenario is flawed in that it relies on models from the past and a nostalgia for a world that can only exist if there were far fewer people on the planet, as it was in the past. Also, it could only happen if everyone was born with the same high level of intellectual discernment, a quality which is useless to the pedestrian level understanding that is necessary for living day to day life. It would be more likely to happen if it were imposed by an enlightened monolithic ruler. The united nations was formed so that we wouldn't have more war. It turns out some people like war, not just the powerful. People think it is a human right to work for whoever is willing to pay money, regardless of the ecological or social consequences i.e. mining, both for data and precious minerals, logging, manufacturing weapons , cars etc. People in general do not know what is best for them, where the economic system they live in comes from or how the world at large that they oblivious to is affected by their actions. They might have an idea, but they are often wrong because they have been fed poor information or disinformation by their family culture or lore or other vested interests. They think when they flush the toilet or put out the garbage the waste just disappears. They argue that governments can and should effect changes that they (governments) are powerless to make. I agree that health care, food, and shelter are basic human rights and that all should have access. But it's not only the CEO of Nestlé who disagrees. There are many who believe that their genetic/geographic heritage or wrongs done to their gene pool in the past makes them more entitled than others to resources. You can't really blame people because from the standpoint of the selfish gene all civilization and its components, including language and political systems, are expressions of an innate strategy for self replication. Most social problems in the world are caused by people self-identifying with a group that feels entitled due to its genetic heritage, or to put it more simply, war is about one gene pool trying to supersede another or all others. Is there a way to cure people of that? I still hold out hope that humans can learn from their mistakes and make a better world, but never a perfect world.

Psychopaths by definition are sociopaths if they socially active. And yes they can. Most of us are. It depends on degree of psychopathy. On individual level that phenomenon shows how much parents were in competition with each other or one over another (sometimes it's a constant war).
