Absolutely stunning- enjoy. I had a friend long ago that had the full engraved sterling set. They weighted a ton, but the tone and craftsmanship were very memorable. T
My buddy had a set of fully engraved sterling silver Naill's as well- back in '95 as his first set. That set with a traditional hide bag was probably over 12 lbs in total! They were beautiful- both the engraving and the turning and had a rich vibrant tone. But man were they heavy, especially compared to my more modestly mounted set with a synthetic bag. I tried them and tired after a few songs. Probably have to get used to them.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them either, look beautiful and sound just amazing! This set has the revised bass bell for a bit more bass presence. Over the moon with them!
These are truly amazing. I bought a set of DN4s with plain silver ferrules and caps a couple years back. Couldnt be happier with them. They lock in tuning easily and sound really bright and full. Plus so easy to play. They stay in tune amazingly well.
Question for NU Bagpiper- are the cocobolo projecting mounts a "special request" through a distributor (e.g. Henderson)? Or are these stocked in limited quantities at a particular shop. Additionally, does it add much cost to the base model price? Was thinking far far in the future of a set of DN4's with these mounts (vs. imitation ivory). Cheers.
I specified the cocobolo, but from memory the cocobolo didn't cost anymore. I'd recommend dropping Martin at an email and talking through what you'd like. He's really helpful and accommodating, he can advise on different woods etc. I shopped direct with Naill (i.e. no middle man distributor) and had fantastic service. DN4's whatever the spec are a lovely instrument! Cheers Lindsaidh
@@nubagpiper7431 any updates on your new pipes? They are stunning... and I’m about to follow you... I’m seeking Martin’s advice on the Vintage line with the Victorian silver pattern. Thoughts on the durability of Cocabolla over the aged resin? Any challenges with duty importing to the US? What chanter did you select? (also, I’m a little surprised at the shipping box... please tell me there was an outer box for protection 😳). Would love to see additional photos... thanks!
@@leoburns9674 Hi Leo! Thanks! Yeah, pipes are going great, best investment I've ever made. The vintage range is *very nice*. I've found the Cocobolo to be quite durable, to compare cocobolo and resin, The Cocobolo is probably a bit softer, but it doesn't chip like the resin. When I got them the cocobolo was very red, that's softened now and with use (being handled/exposure to light). It will darken further over time. I like the fact its subtly changing. I was told by Naill (at least I think it was) that, if you get cocobolo for instance, but 10 years down the line you don't like it and want to change, you can. All their mounts are the same dimensions, so no issue there. I'm afraid being based in Scotland, I've no idea about the whole CITES thing, but I thought the blackwood thing had been resolved for musical instruments? I don't think there is an issue with cocobolo. I didn't get a chanter from Naill, I have a couple of Shepherd Mk3 chanters. I've pretty much only ever played these. Coupled with a Shepherd molded reed (Troy MacAllister also go well) I've not felt the need to search for anything else. Very comfortable to play too. Nah, no outer box. That was how they came. But tbf they were very very well packed. I suppose you could also order a pipe box? And have them come in that? I'll see if I can get some more pictures today and link them here. GL with the purchase, such an exciting time! Cheers Lindsaidh
@@nubagpiper7431 awesome... happy for you! Too funny... For some reason I thought and you referenced New York university and you were based in the state of New York… I was wrong LOL! I sent an email back to Martin last night… Perhaps you know Naill is doing some contract manufacturing for “RJM”... now there are 3 lines in that shop... Traditional/Vintage/RJM. They did a really nice job on mounting your a swivel blow stick... how do you intend to use both sticks... will one be for ceremonial use and one will be for every day use? I’m looking forward to your photos... engraving detail would be certainly appreciated. Thanks for the help - be well!
@@leoburns9674 Ha ha ha, NU is where I live in Scotland, so close! When I bought the pipes I was using the flexi-stick but now I only use the silver one. It's just too nice to leave in the box! Wee extras I added on to the standard DN5 were the full silver mouth piece, full length engraved slides (normally the engraving doesn't go all the way down to the mount and all the way up to the hemp) and of course the cocobolo. I've added pictures here: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kK1VZhcoxl04Z9RZlmPJ_BLsdE5F4Fty?usp=sharing The first 6 were when new and last 4 now. You can see the darkening (it it subtle) to the cocobolo, especially where the bass drone sits on my neck. Cheers Lindsaidh
You have done well in life to receive such a magnificent set of pipes. Well done.😊

Beautiful set & a cracking sound, enjoy!
What shop did you order your pipes through?
I know the maker very well I can recommend their Bagpipes the craftsmanship is excellent as us the tone too.
