    I’m Johanna Rothman, and this is Johanna’s 60 Seconds of Writing WIP for June 21, 2024, where I read an excerpt of just a minute of some writing in progress.
    This is from the Effective Public Speaking book.
    Some speakers deliver terrific presentations with just images. I don't like that because I want to know the "why" behind the image. Worse, as a speaker, I'm not capable of using just images because I have trouble remembering which content goes with which image. If you’ve ever seen my Pecha Kuchas you’ve seen that.
    However, you've also had to sit through way too many presentations where it seemed as if the speaker was paid based on the number of slides and the number of words on each slide.
    Too often, those slides have multiple ideas on one slide. Worse, I can't read them. That means I stop paying attention to the speaker and start trying to read the words.
    Then, there are the colorful slides with low contrast or yellow type on a black background, or worse, Comic Sans as a font. I can't see those slides and the font makes me wonder if the speaker took their job seriously.
    Here are my guidelines for effective visuals, or slides:
    * One idea per slide.
    * One image with some words per slide.
    * Reasonable typography and colors.
    These guidelines create one overarching goal for my presentation: Make sure I, as the speaker, add value to the presentation.
