Nice vid, I think Allies start guaranteeing at 25% not 40% btw. Not certain but I remember hearing it was 25%. Also the shortest point between France and England is about 20 miles not 1 lol; that might've made the hundred years war quite different! :)

@@ESG1 Jersey and Guernsey were occupied by the nazis; which is obviously much closer to the French coast, but not actually in the game. They ought to be as they played their part, there's a film called "Another Mother's Son" about this which is worth watching; and based on fact.
Most people agree that the occupation was absolutely nothing to do with military gains, but rather bragging rights/propaganda, to say "Germany captured part of England"!
A decent movie nonetheless for a rainy afternoon :)

Man, I'm struggling horribly because I stopped playing several months ago (I got decent) and when I came back, I lost all of my knowledge and skills. I tried getting back into the groove of things and I started losing as Germany despite my troops being supplied, having enough equipment, being designed properly AND I was on CIVILIAN difficulty and yet France started carving through me like a hot knife through butter. Nothing I could do.

As a beginner to HOI4, this is not a beginners guide. I have no idea what you are doing ~80% of the time, would be 90+% if i havent watched other videos. It was still entertaining to go through it, but still have 0 knowledge on how the naval attack worked, what the focus ideas were or really how anythign was set up. The video seems super helpful for you already know and can grasp all the aspects already

NP, I would suggest focusing on air superiority and not building too many equipment types. Game is complex...
Also saw from you that its not the best to research all planes or all economy first as you will be weak by that. Probably need to figure out what plane I want to build and just focus on that one specifically for years. Even in your Mexico videos, you managed to conquer a lot with only infantry which is crazy to me @@ESG1
I think this video shows you how to survive as a newbie. If you follow what he's doing, you'll get time to understand the mechanics during your own playthrough. HoI is a game where you have to think ahead, he has taken that aspect away so you can focus on what's happening at any one moment. Also, people with 5+ years in this game still don't understand the navy. That's pretty much the last thing you're going to understand in this game.

So I kinda did your strat but tried to add some new things soo the first part went good but the 2nd part... yeah so this is what happened:
I produced just infantry equipment and fighters like you said, went down Anschluss and went to war with Poland as soon as I could, which the allies didn't even intervene and I won, annexing Danzig and puppeting the rest. Then, I went to war with the Benelux, smashed through them and then capitulated France with an ally I made during the war, Italy, and established Vichy. Then, I did some 'big braining' and invaded the UK from Scotland, which actually worked lmao and I capitulated the allies. An average 'normal' peace conference later and I had annexed all of Northern France while also puppeting a few colonies because Italy took A LOT of them. While at war with the allies, I had demanded Sudetenland and the Czech refused at that time, but I already had a war there so I left em alone. After the war I finally declared war on them. The problem was, I forgot the 'Death or Dishonor' DLC was on so Czechoslovakia had level 9 forts all over Sudetenland. After capturing a few territories in Slovakia and snake bit through Czechia, The Soviet Union went to war with me somehow. Probably because of their focus tree. But the worst part, I had no border guards so I could barely move 4 armies in to prevent Poland from completely collapsing. After some more snaking, the Czechs capitulated and I diverted all my troops to the Soviet Union and immediately went for a big push, which actually succeeded a bit in the south and I pushed them out of Romania, after that I had to stop cus the offensives drained all of my manpower. The Soviets began a counter offensive and pushed me back a bit on the north. After a few more offensives by either side, I realized this turned into a disaster save and just left the game.
(I did this in regular iron man mode)
Soviets don't typically attack until after 42. That's strange.

I accidentally started training a bunch of motorized and then switched the training to cavalry. You want to train cavalry and turn them into mot after you get them deployed in the field. That will give you more manpower without having the eqiupment required for training.
I need one of these but with all DLC because I"m a sucker for PDX DLC but have never managed to break into HOI4
Imaginf if you could enter a Battle which will take you to Enlisted (Infantry) or War Thunder (Tanks and Planes) so you can actually help out decide the fate of the battle 😄

This is actually so frustrating. Just started playing and learning the historical way. Thought medium tanks and optimized width templates were the thing, but keep getting caved in by the allies. With just planes and guns I’m dusting everyone. How does this make sense. Does support just not matter? Still no idea how to win with navy 😅
Just using guns solves many logistical issues. The fancy equipment takes a lot more nuance to bring to bear.
In terms of navy you can spam cruisers with max light attack and do incredibly well. In an ideal world you would have a balanced navy with carriers, battleships and screens but if that is not possible just go light cruisers.
Before I watched this, I won (kinda hard) against Poland but lost to the Netherlands 😅

Speed is the key. Go through Luxembourg and max out rails to the Low Countries. Move with green air but keep the air back. It will steal supply from the front.

I successfully invaded Poland, Benelux countries, and France, but invasion of UK was an abysmal failure because I couldn't get naval supremacy in the English channel and my navy was slaughtered. I was about 6 months behind your benchmarks and dangerously low on fuel for a long time so maybe those factors play a role. Great tutorial but your timestamps are way off making it hard to find stuff.
You can still cap UK if you lose your navy. You just need to land 20 or so divs and rush the VP's.

Gain air superiority and spam naval bombers. If you don't have air superiority they will all get shot down.
@@ESG1 I have a huge bottleneck with rubber that's delaying fighter and bomber production significantly and I can't trade for it because I'm at war with most trade partners. I might be able to produce a bigger air force before going to war with Benelux and France but..... delaying is risky. It's 21 May 1937 and I just conquered Northern France. How early am I? Should I consider delaying invasion of Western Europe to build up a respectable air force? I currently have 571 fighters, 85 naval bombers, and 437 tactical bombers, and its not going to improve much because of my steep bottleneck with rubber.
You need to start to build refineries if you want to delay the invasion or just yolo it and take a save. The allies have all the rubber you need. If you can snake the UK real quick, you can cap the allies.

Hey man, excellent tutorial! I used to struggle with taking out Poland alone and now I just clipped all of allies thanks to you! My only problem is with invading the ussr.
Is there something I’m missing because I followed everything you said but the first time I used this tactic, I invaded in mid 1939 and lost on the first 3 months but the second time: I invaded them much earlier(3 days before you) and this time did really good in the initial push, got close to Moscow and Leningrad but all of a sudden, my attack got slower and slower and somehow they pushed me back and won after about 2 years. I had green air in Ukraine and Belarus for the most part but red or yellow air in Novgorod. But still my supply was good and everything so why’d I lose.
The only different things I did were have an extra full army (half were helping out in Russia and the other were stationed on the spanish border in case they joined. I also had significantly less planes than you for some reason idk why. I also barely micromanaged. So did you like train your army or produce more bombers/fighters or maybe make tanks or what could’ve been the issue?

Spain won't join so you can take troops off that front. Only place like 80 inf and as many tank divs as you can field on the Barb front. You should be building rails the whole time as you penetrate the USSR. Try to get all the rails from Berlin into the USSR up to 4 or 5 as you move east.
@@ESG1 Thanks, will definitely try that. I have a question about the planes and tanks. Should I be producing more kinds of planes like bombers cuz in the video you had so many or just fighters. And for the tanks, should I start training them much earlier than barbarossa so they are more experienced or will it work if I spawn in barely trained ones like you did with the cavalry for anschluss and Danzig.
I would not build too many types of equipment. One type of tank, one type of fighter, and one type of CAS and just upgrade those designs as you go. There is a button to auto upgrade in the tank/ plane designer. You don't need too many mils on CAS maybe just 3 growing to 5. Fighters I would produce a lot of, maybe 30 by war growing to 50.

This is an insanely good tutorial, but I always find myself stuck at the soviet invasion. I amass every army with the Anchluss template, play defensive then go offensive, and I barely reached Kiev before they managed to push me back. I achieved green air in Ukraine and Belarus, and I even had a facist revolt in Uzbek and got the Japanese involved, yet I still failed. I really want to learn how to defeat the soviet so I can move on from civ
Build Logi 2 and upgrade your rails as you travel into the USSR.

@@user-tz7wy3ub2k Take the Low countries fast and make sure the Allies aren't bombing your logistics. When you travel through the Low countries to take out France you may need to pull some troops back to improve your logistics.
Ok I tried this, I guess I failed since I didn’t do it in the right time gap, but now I have the perfect opportunity. Anyways, since the soviet invasion revolves around letting them exhaust themselves, would it be better to get engineers as a support company on the Austrian template?
@@user-tz7wy3ub2k I would craft the army as I showed in the video. Make sure to have support AA in all of your divisions. Green air and CAS will give you all the stats you need.

What do you think about throwing an AA support company in the infantry template? It's more than just rifles but something in me feels like it's a crime not to sprinkle them around.
Always use support AA in the inf template. I should have that in one of the variants of the inf. template of this video.

Click on your countries flag under military high command.
Did you exercise any army or air divisions? And how did your motorised infantry work if you weren’t producing any trucks?
I didn't exercise to conserve equipment. The infantry can still fight without trucks, just not as well.
Does the motor infantry just turn into foot infantry then? And is exercising soldiers not worth it? Can they still fight well even if their recruit level training also is the air divisions still good as recruit level?
They fight much better trained. There are cases where you do want to exercise. It's just the strat I used in this build to simplify things for begginers.

You have to train them in the recruit and deploy screen. The button is at the too of your screen.

Make sure check that you have green air. Build level 3 rails as you move forward. You may have to give your army a bit of a break and build up planning bonus of a month or two. That's all I can think of without seeing your save. That being said if you send me the save on my discord I could look at it and give you more info.
Tried using this to learn the game... didn't go so well. I was about 6 months behind everything you were doing, Poland went fine but The Netherlands barely moved, then Britain landed in the north and walked into Berlin without me noticing. Oh well.
Should I focus on playing as Germany before I start playing as an allied nation?
Not necessarily. U have a lot of time if u play a country like UK. It’s also easy to defend the home isles against the Axis.
I cannot take belgium! whenever I do, the allies get us into a stalemate until switzerland and france take over my other side!!

I would say you probably don't have naval superiority or your order is bugged. Try a new one with a different General. Be sure to restart the game before doing so.

I've tried recreating this but putting in the infrastructure focus earlier than you did and it doesn't work as well, actually it doesn't I have been invaded by the Free French or I can't get Operation Sea Lion to work. Is this due to the timing being off by not using the timeline you did or just RNG messing with me?
The timing is everything. You can't let the Allies get too strong before you attack.
@@ESG1thanks man that makes sense. First time I tried the strat I fluffed the infrastructure part, just forgot to get it rolling so I thought trying to get it set up earlier would help. Also I know someone said that it doesn't work now but I tried it the other day and other than my tweaks it was still rolling the allies up really well so it still could be legit.
I can’t seem to attack the Netherlands because my divisions have a yellow exclamation mark meaning my organisation is too low, but the average organisation is 100%..help???
Sounds like a supply issue. Max out the rails to the Netherlands. Also, check out my new Germany guide coming out next week. It will be a civilian factory ramp guide but I share my plane and tank designs in the video.

How do I make a navy attack coastal ports or do they automatically attack ports if the country is at war with you. And how do I easily destroy the Netherlands I always seem to lose to them? And one more day thing I can easily defeat Poland with this but every time I get around the time to the world tensions is always above 25% just following this and are guaranteed by UK. And if I wait for the tension to go down the war goal against Poland goes away after researching Danzig or war than I have to submit a whole new one which just builds tension again.
Navy won’t attack ports, just navs and bombers on the port strike order. You will have to follow the guide to see how to take out the Netherlands. It’s all about timing and how u build your army and economy.

Hey ESG I m reaching out to you again. Whenever I follow your video when you get to the Anschluss I don’t have enough equipment for it and have to wait months or even half of 1937 to get the equipment because I always get stuck on equipment around 36k equipment. By that time world tensions increased over 25% and France and Britain are guaranteeing Poland. Thank you.
They changed the requirements for that focus tree. Add like 5 more military factories to guns at the start of the game.

having trouble getting through belgium, because there's too many allied forces. any help? the air superiority is also struggling due to the amount of allied troops in the area...
Several things to consider:
1. Build more fighters
2. How is your supply
3. Push through Lux after you gain air superiority
4. Bring Italy into the war if you are having trouble
The Lux push will require some micro and a very fast push under air superiority. You may have to wait a few months before you can push again.

Close supply in the channel. You click the sea zone and in the bottom left hand corner should be a red cancel button.

quick question, i capitulated Poland the UK France and Uni soviet but i never get any Treaties to pick some states to puppet or annex whatsoever, so they just capitulated and became German Reich, so it's kinda hard to invade the US since Canada still there, where did i went wrong here ?
There must be continuation wars going on. Look at the war score tab at the top of the screen to figure out which country is the faction leader. They will have gold around the countries flag. You will have to cap that country to get a peace conference.

I usually only swap the truck divs if I have enough equipment.

How is supply hub not useful supply is the key to win any war in this game.
Logistics Company, Port, Roads, or rails are much easier to mass produce in this game and incredibly effective. Supply planes just got a massive buff too. Supply hubs take way too long to build.

How do you capitulate soviet union so quickly? i declared in 1938, im in 1944 and its still only at 23% cap after i got moscow, stalingrad and gorky
You have to get past the Urals to cap them. I usually snake at the end.
May or may not be a stupid question but how do I maintain a healthy manpower?
Don't build too many divs, air or ships. Then raise your conscription law when you need it.
@@ESG1 this is the first time I’ve played this game and I’ve made it around the time we invade Poland if not a little earlier. Maybe I have too many troops. I think I had 1.5 million the last time I checked. The video is good though I’ll continue watching from where I stopped whenever I play the save file again.
For Poland I use 950k

Use your war score points to keep demanding them until one side runs out of points. May only want to demand the important areas though.

Upgraded weapons wont make the armies more powerful? this is confusing for a noob
The quantity is much more important than the quality. If your army is not fully supplied you face parabolic penalties to combat. That's why I like this game so much, same is true IRL.
Since BBA, I cant beat France from north, dont know why, even with some medium tanks (one or two in template) and motorized inf. Alone, without Italy, otherwise roughly historical. Maybe its because of lack of airplanes/air superiority, I am only guessing. I play game only ocasionally since NSB. My goal is to quickly kill Allies and Italy.
Ussually I have problems if I don't build enough fighters or stack too many divisions along the channel coast. Its either air or logistics problems during the battle of France for me.

Yes, if you want the AI to be more challenging though, use the expert AI mod.

@@daviddragneel7318 To counter CAS build fighters with as many heavy machine guns as possible and one Cannon. To counter subs, build naval bombers with high air defense.
@Efficient Strategy Gaming do not have any of the dlcs or mod run the game on offline soooo Cas isn't a designed feature I can only choose o incress weapons no specific gun types I got 5 modifiers (speed, reliability, engine, armor and range you don't get to build air or naval you get to increase or decrease the production cost for vanilla based unmodded no dlc planes this is why I asked for a unmodded no dlc run alot of your tips and tricks are fantastic for dlc and mod based games however the base game ai with all mods and dlcs will crush you cause you don't get to build custom ships or air. Very hard to asl for advice from people who have never played just the base game of hoi4 I'm a gamer I buy games not dlcs and for me to have to purchase a dlc just to win a base game is hilter at his finest

The armies should not be fully equipped. At that point in the video you are just trying to get manpower in the field to meet the requirements of Danzig or War.

Build more infantry equipment at the beginning of the game. U should be able to make enough. That was a change that was made after this video came out.
