Halo from Indonesia, Jon. Jon may I suggest to you the best Indonesian Leather Good : Txture Boots, Sagara Boot Maker, Koku Footwear, Junkard Company, FionnBaxter, Onderhoud Handmade. All the shoes that I mention is handmade by local Artisan. Please...just window shopping if you interested. By the way I'm big fan of your channel.
I guess im randomly asking but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Andrew Karsyn I really appreciate your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I’m really surprised this doesn’t have more views - this is documentary quality. Thanks for the time and effort you put in to developing this. It was informative and interesting
GREAT review of Allen Edmonds! Glad to get some insight from those within the organization. Allen Edmonds are still a great brand that can last for years.
J, played this at 1.25x so I could fit it in over lunch. Incredibly well put together video, very informative, and definitely happy to keep my wagon hitched to this horse.
I absolutely love the breakdown of this whole content focusing on Allen Edmonds. As an A&E consumer myself, I am passionate and also at the same time concerned at where the brand is going with the changing times but hearing all of this and being able to educate myself on the situation and different factors surround the company is good for all parties, I believe.
this is a fantastic video! thank you. I would never go to Allen Edmonds but the new boots brought me back and loving the Higgins Mill boot and the Landon Cap toe boot. Great for business casual and good for fashion over 40
I'm an Englishman living in England and I really enjoyed the measured depth of this presentation. I particularly found value in hearing how you savour American craftsmanship and values that shape the very nature of these shoes, and that refocussing on that is the path into the future for this company. Here in England our equivalent companies like Loake have strayed into offshoring some of their production and my experience of the results tells me that that is a mistake. So it's English made Loakes for me and based on your video, if I lived your side of the pond, I'd be buying Allen Edmunds.
You definitely listen to comments on your videos and that is appreciated. Also, your enthusiasm is also appreciated. Thank you much for the time, effort and quality of this presentation. "Let's continue..."
I never cared about the quality of my dress shoes until I started watching the youtube cobblers, they made me an AE enthusiast. I have purchased my first 3 pairs of AE this past month alone.
I really liked this video. I appreciate the highlight on American companies, the pursuit of American quality and overall Ivan craftsmanship. Thanks for putting this together. I’ve had AEs and this makes me appreciate them even more.
You spent more time explaining a premium brand shoe, than my Haberdasher did, before I bought my first through third pairs of Alan Edmond shoes. I learned a lot about the shoe. Some 7 to 10 years later, all of these shoes seem to look as good as the day I bought them. Now my Haberdasher has retired and the store is closed, yet I now know where to send my shoes when they need to get fixed. I always knew there was a lifetime ability to work on the shoe for refurbishments. What I did not know is what the workmanship levels were for those repairs. Now I do. What I do know is the the shined Allen Edmonds shoe makes a statement when wearing them and always compliments the rest of the outfit I have chosen to wear. Thank you for all your efforts.
Thank you for the fantastic, thorough behind the scenes look at Allen Edmonds. I am a recent premium shoe officionado with a few pairs of Thursday boots, but I need to up my dress shoe game and have been eyeing Allen Edmonds based on multiple RUclips channels, reviews, cobblers, etc. Like most, I love feeling connected to a company and I feel VERY connected to Allen Edmonds after seeing this. Can’t wait to get my first pair! I think it is wonderful, nostalgic and romantic to still have craftsmanship alive in America and definitely want to support it.
Excellent video and worth the 50min, I have two stores close to me that I'll be paying a visit this weekend to get my sizing and start with a pair of Park Avenue's.
Excellent production Jon. You did a great job in providing a thorough overview of Allen Edmond’s business, and answered questions that I believe many of your viewers had on their mind. As a fan of Allen Edmonds, its nice to see the commitment that AE management has to maintaining quality, while also responding to changing demographics of its customer base. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video. Greatly appreciated!...Ed
Ordered my first pair of AE Strands in Walnut (factory seconds) almost exclusively bc of this channel and I love them. Super glad to have all of the info offered from channels like yours.
Fabulous job! Very informative and a pleasure to watch. 👍🏼👍🏼 I know so many enthusiasts, myself included, are rooting hard for this great American company to continue to succeed and to be appreciated for the jewel that they are.
Just bought my first pair of AE shoes. Strand weave in dark chili, and from their local store. Not a rich guy, but really wanted quality and great fit. American-made, when possible, is an absolute plus for me. Worn them once since trying them on in the store, and so far, they feel fantastic. That particular style, with the weave, is very unique, and I think, super classy. Their merchandise isn't cheap, but I love quality and craftsmanship, and I especially like caring for durable goods, and making them look their best. I'm hopeful these will stand the test of time.
the redrafting service is amazing but its probably hard to market that when most mainstream shoe brands are disposable. the majority of men think a rubber sneaker from cole haan at $120 is the pinnacle of shoe making which is so pathetic
@@TheMensch I fell into the trap of saving a couple bucks from buying from a director to consumer Brad but in the long run it's going to cost me more since I don't have a good cobbler near me I will have to ship the shoes out.
This is a great video Jon. I just bought my first pair of Park Avenues, and they probably the best shoes I've ever owned. What a great company not only for the quality of their product, but their uncompromising approach to their American-made business model. In a globalized world of plastic, mass-produced products I hope we will see a resurgence of more companies like Allen Edmonds.
Great video. The interviews in particular are very insightful and provide a lot of context to their current rationale and where they're heading. Thanks for a great job.
This is top-tier producing and editing! Each time I come back to watch this video I learned something new. I hope you have the opportunity to complete a series like this of other American-made shoe companies. If anyone on RUclips can achieve such an ambitious docuseries, it's definitely him!
Watching this in 2022. This is a very well done video and it tells an important story. Buying American does make a difference. If you don't want to live in a "big box" world--don't spend your money at "big box" stores. Support smaller retailers who might offer a better service, but also support big American companies who are true to their heritage and quality standards--and...as I just learned, are also offering a very high level of service before and after a sale.
Well done and thorough. I appreciate the video and I have been really enjoying the new Allen Edmonds approach to comfort with the softer lug soles. Some of the traditionalists overreact that they are “changing,” but they are adding new styles that appeal to a younger audience AND keeping the originals intact. This is great news for fans of the brand.
Great job on this video! Nice editing and very informative. I have a long, narrow foot and for years I never could find a dress shoe that fit well. A few years ago, I stumbled across an Allen Edmonds store -- I knew nothing about the brand -- and was shocked by all the different styles that they had to fit my feet. I left the store with 6 pairs. I've worn the shoes on trips all over the world and have gotten lots of compliments. I prefer to wear Nike sneakers, but it is nice to have beautiful shoes for business.
I totally think that one of their biggest strengths is that they offer so many sizes and widths. I wish more guys knew that such options existed. I have a friend who complains about wide feet and so many shoes today being too narrow. im like brother, do yourself a favor and get fitted at AE!
@The Kavlier - That's a well fitting dress shirt at 2:43 in the video. Is that a slim fit, extra slim fit or a super slim fit dress shirt? And what brand is it?
Magnificent video. Kirby Allison also often promotes Allen Edmonds and it is because of individuals like him and you that have steered me away from buying disposable products, and towards investing in quality and durability instead. I bought My Allen Edmonds in an Allen Edmonds store in the Memphis area and I have to say that the experience was fantastic, so I am glad to hear the President of the company saying that they will continue to support those physical locations.
This was a great detailed informative interview that wasn't just fluff from a company but your opinion and that of a industry professional to further balance out this feature. Excellent work.
Wow, amazing video. Way above the usual RUclips fare. Great research and interview footage. I learned an incredible amount, and it was entertaining as well.
Outstanding video. I just experienced my first AE quality control issue on a pair of Dalton boots, and subsequently returned them today. One of the boots had 8 shoelace eyelets and the other had 7; one of the weirder QC defects I've ever seen.
Really excellent work! It's so hard to understand what's going on with AE - reviews are so disparate I'm worried about jumping in. This makes me feel a bit more confident. Thanks!
Great stuff Jon! And thanks to them for giving you the time and answering the tough questions! I fully appreciate what a company has to do in order to survive changes in the market and in styles too, and I think they are well positioned like you said to continue to lead the charge in american footwear. Also, I still think that the fact that they offer so many sizes and widths is a HUGE strength that most modern guys dont even know exists. hopefully they can stress that in ads more. "Any SIZE and WIDTH for ANY FOOT out there!"
Bought my first pair and also first Goodyear welt shoe. They are perfect and have the new box and bag (bought in store). Will be slowly buying many more and never buying junk fashion brands again. Started with the casual Alpine Chukka boot in brown. Leather is consistent and stitching was very clean all around.
Great video. I have several pairs of Allen Edmonds that are more than ten years old that still look and feel fantastic. I also have some newer versions that exhibit the exact same quality. Other than the length, this was a typical Kavalier video, entertaining and informative! Keep them coming.
Great video! After watching your previous one on this brand I was starting to seriously question their direction (plus the comments and rumors I have read elsewhere). I’ve purchased eight Allen Edmonds shoes/boots that I remember, and having sold off a few that didn’t fit too well I’m still quite happy with the brand. I also have a jacket, hat, shoe care products, and plenty of Woodlore shoe trees from them. Glad to see a collaboration with Carl as well, as he’s one of my favorite RUclipsrs.
Terrific video. I loved the brand & these AE videos have really reinforced my buying decisions. I have 15 pairs & still want more. Their Customer Service has been great & it looks like they are addressing some of the concerns I had. The box stuff is silly, but I keep all my shoes in boxes, so the fact that the one piece magnetic boxes fall apart is a pain. I’ve gravitated towards the dainite soles on recent shoes & really like the comfort, quality and grip. Well done.
Allen Edmonds, Ace Marks vs RM Williams, which do you recommend for boots, loafers and oxfords? I hope you can recommend which kind of shoe for which brand.
I actually just spoke to a customer service agent from AE in the last couple of hours on the phone. I was confused about their manufacturing locations since I read on wikipedia (yeah, not always reliable, but still) that their GY welted shoes have the uppers sewn in the Dominican Republic and then shipped here to be welted, soled, and finished. However, when I watched Steve's factory tour video yesterday, I saw that they were making what seemed to be all the different GYW styles from the beginning in Wisconsin. The guy on the phone told me that if it's got a 360 GY welt, it's made in Wisconsin, whereas the Dominican Republic ones are the AE by Allen Edmonds series and any other bonded type of shoe. Definitely helped solve the confusion! EDIT: I did some further research and found a forum post by their former CEO, Paul Graangard (sp?). He said that some of the GYW uppers are indeed pre-sewn in the DR, but not all of them by any means. It just helps split the work a bit.
Wonderful work on a great company! I’ve very recently become an avid wearer of AE’s, purchased through the used market (Poshmark, EBay, etc). Looking forward to when I’ll have worn some of them enough to have them recrafted at the factory. Thank you for your work on this. It’s a great business that can decide “this is who we are, and we’re going to be excellent at doing what we love doing”
Excellent video. Your appraoch to the business in case is top notch. I appreciate the opportunity to learn about the strategic vision of a great American company. Please put out more of this type of documentary for the legacy American brands. Best regards to you and Carl.
Great video, thanks Jon!! I’m glad to hear that AE is trying to figure out its modern identity. I bought a few pairs of boots this season for my fall rotation. I considered the Higgins Mill, but honestly the last three pairs of AE shoes that I bought all had major QC issues that their customer service essentially ignored. I’m sorry, but I just don’t trust the company anymore. It makes me really sad because they were once my favorite shoemaker. I’m all for growth and evolution, but not at the cost of quality. At the end of the day, I want to always find the best value and AE just doesn’t make the cut anymore for me because of these issues. I’ll be happy if I find out that their QC has improved and will gladly return to being a lifelong AE customer if it does. Reading the recent reviews on their site does not give me much confidence though ☹️.
So this weekend I discovered the AE seconds sale and picked up a pair of Higgins Mills for $190. I can deal with QC issues at that price! These are really beautiful boots and they are much higher quality than other $200 boots. Actually, they are better quality then the 1st quality Daltons I picked up a year ago. Will definitely keep buying seconds from AE!
Jon great work on this! Made it thru to the end and picked up my first pair of 5th aves. Decided to go with the factory seconds just to dip my toe in. Hopefully I get a good pair!
They were pretty smart getting Baker Mayfield to endorse them and model their shoes. They jumped on him as a rookie. After he becomes a top NFL QB and wins a Super Bowl, it looks like a genius move. They got him on the cheap as a rookie in a multi year deal.
Hey, how do you compare koio shoes to common projects? I find them much more streamlined and nicer materials than the Greats brand but was wondering if you had a hands on comparison yourself? Thanks and glad to have found your channel.
Excellent work. I can't stress that enough. Such an entertaining, informative, and professional piece. Are they phasing out the oxbloods? It's my favorite color and I don't see much of them anymore. Sidenote: you're wearing the bejeezus out of that shirt - it's as crisp and clean as the video.
who makes the good year welted dress/casual clean or captoe women's boot though? I feel like I keep buying myself quality shoes and boots, but outside of Meermins or Carmina, I do do not know who makes a decent womens boot. I know Thursday makes one but they are a bit vague with the construction of the women's boots vs the mens so I assume its a cheaper less noteworthy build also they never answered my 3 emails about it haha. PLEASE HELP!! I welcome any suggestions! I ideally am looking sub $350 level but will take any suggestions! Grazie
I'm really surprised TBC didn't answer your emails regarding their women's boot construction. It is still a Goodyear welt for most of them. The corking is not really replaceable in the women's boots if I understand correctly.
I love the video. After watching this a few times, I don’t like the dismissive nature of the quality concerns. I’ve bought two shoes in the last few months that were unwearable first quality. I have pics. They were both so fresh you could smell the paint. They weren’t pre-caleres or minor issues. I returned them and didn’t bother exchanging due to my lack of faith in receiving a good product. Keep in mind I have 15 pairs of Allen Edmonds. Sure you can return them but the frequency of issues seems to be too high.
I agree and I was happy they 1. would speak about it on camera 2. are well aware and looking to make changes. If they continue, they'll surely see a drop in customer satisfaction and sales so it's in their best interest to fix it asap

Well done.
Danite is the best! Glad you enjoyed Mr. G 🙂
This is a great, informative video. Why isn't this getting more play on social media like Reddit? Tremendous job, well done.
Not sure, maybe too long.
Great video, really enjoyed it. Thank you!
Great video. I'll be looking into your American Made website.
Thank you! That's my plan!
@@deeplypresent the issue is that their more modern styles are inky made to size 13. the whole point of ae was that they made grown up sizes.
Rewatched it, loving the edits!
Jon great work on this! Made it thru to the end and picked up my first pair of 5th aves. Decided to go with the factory seconds just to dip my toe in. Hopefully I get a good pair!
Excellent video! Very informative. Thanks
Great video. I just got my first pair a few months ago to be my wedding shoes but I’ll be honest I hope to wear the fifth ave often.
@50:09: I think you misspelled Steve's last name in the "Special Thanks".
Best and most informative video yet. Yours and Carl's hard work is clearly evident. Thanks so much!
They were pretty smart getting Baker Mayfield to endorse them and model their shoes. They jumped on him as a rookie. After he becomes a top NFL QB and wins a Super Bowl, it looks like a genius move. They got him on the cheap as a rookie in a multi year deal.
Makes me feel even better about the Allen Edmonds shoes that I own.
Hey, how do you compare koio shoes to common projects? I find them much more streamlined and nicer materials than the Greats brand but was wondering if you had a hands on comparison yourself? Thanks and glad to have found your channel.
Yes! Video on the channel. Greats are chunkier and more clunky than either. Koio are perfect CP alternative IMO
I used to think you were a Thursday boot shill but I was wrong. Going through your channel, you make very good and informative videos.
I'm a shill for the best products I can find. Thank you for taking a deeper look Miguel!
I love the shirt and tie you are wearing.
Thank you Robert! Fort Belvedere. So good!
who makes the good year welted dress/casual clean or captoe women's boot though?
I am liking this review of Allen Edmonds. Thank you Jon.
"I'm an American; I wear Allen Edmonds!"
