- Ce matin, toutes les périodes de notre vie sont prêtes à s’entremêler.
Depuis que j’ai annoncé dans les couloirs de Nova que Monsieur Ben Harper passait nous rendre visite ce matin, j’ai pu entendre toutes sortes de réactions. Des réactions mais surtout des souvenirs, beaucoup de souvenirs. Certains m’ont raconté comment en 1994 « Welcome To The cruel World » avait pu les apaiser en pleine crise adolescente, d’autres m’ont conté les nombreuses romances et moments câlins sur « Fight for your mind » en 95, les plus jeunes m’ont expliqué l’avoir découvert avec le classique, le gold, With My Own two hands en 2003 sur Nova, et d’autres après avoir tenté de le copier ont abandonné la guitare depuis, pour se concentrer sur l’écoute. Y compris Ben qui en arrivant ce matin sous la verrière de Nova, se rappela sa première radio français à Nova en 1994. Y Compris vous Edouard...
Ben Harper nous accompagne depuis les années 90, en version iconique, en rendant hommage album après album à sa manière aux racines de la musique afro américaine, le blues, le roots, la funk, le reggae la soul le rock. Une carrière, une vie, littéralement dédié à la musique, pour cet enfant fils de luthier, d’une maman qui lui apprit ses premiers accords de guitare à trois ans et dont les grands-parents ont fondé le Folk Music Center dans sa ville natale de Claremont en Californie.
Et pour ce seizième album, c’est aux racines du blues que Ben Harper remonte aux côtés d’une légendaire harmoniciste Charlie Musselwhite rencontré par l’entremise de John Lee Hooker tout simplement.

2024 ! Toujours aussi fan ,je l'ai connu a son 1 er album et ça été un coup de foudre musical ! Vu 3 fois en Suisse, lui et son groupe les innocents criminals m'ont fait vivre les meilleurs moments de concerts, en 2 ème place Manu chao.
Ma premiere écoute de Ben Harper fut en 1995 dans la voiture de l'un de mes meilleurs potes...écoute sur une cassette copiée de l'album original de son grand frère. Dès les premières notes j'ai été intrigué et bouleversé. Je connaissais le bottleneck mais ne l'avais jamais entendu joué de la sorte... ce jour a débuté une grande histoire d'amour stéréophonique . Ben Harper ce poète qui vous transporte . Merci Benny :)
J'avais dix ans lorsque tu l'a entendu la 1ere foid, il m'en a fallu 5 de plus pour en apprécier les subtilités. Ben Harper est unique et si spirituel. J'ai étais envoûtée, peu importe que l'on soit homme ou femme. Il transperce l'âme de celui qui l'écoute.
j'ai découvert Ben le 24/10/1995. Ma mère travaillant dans la musique avait reussi à avoir 2 places pour un jeune guitariste faisant une tournée à Paris.... j'ai jamais arreté et ca risque pas d'arriver!
Un peu la même histoire et même période.... j'étais à l'armée et le barman passait ça... tout de suite accroché du fait de la qualité du client musicalement et le fait qu'il y ait des percussions vu que je suis batteur... j'ai grave kiffé 🙏☺️

Always loved this song, but never really listened to the lyrics. Sadly still so relevant.
As an American, this makes me crazy sad for all the destruction that has taken place over the years since our country was born and still happens on a daily basis. I'm grateful Ben is willing to discuss this sore subject yet I can't imagine anything better than this being truly a blip of our history and allowing Ben to sing of a better more loving reality.
