This was CONFIRMATION of something I shared with my daughter a few weeks ago. I didn’t have the scripture to back it up in the moment but this not only confirmed what I said but also gives a great biblical example!

Hello Pastor Rod. I absolutely love your messages. I find them relevant, encouraging and uplifting at a time when I really need to stay positive and hopeful. This comment may be 2 years out of sync but I thought I’d share my perspective anyway. Regarding Naaman’s motive in bringing gifts to Elisha, you see, there is an African proverb that says “you do not approach a healer empty handed”. Also, in the old days, per African culture, when you approached a ruler or “chief” or someone you honored and respected - either for favors or to seek justice or just to visit etc, it was customary and polite to bring them gifts. The amount of sacrifice put into the gifts reflected the value you placed on the recipient. The Queen of Sheba brought Solomon gifts during her visit. The wise men brought Jesus gifts. Deuteronomy 16:16, God expected every man who came before him to bring gifts according to their ability. Wouldn’t it be safe to assume that Naaman brought gifts out of respect, according to the tradition of his people? Or even the traditions of Israel?
