This is a high school in the Clark County School District. The original name of this school was Basic High School and was established in 1942. It was named for the defunct Basic Magnesium Plant located in what is now called Henderson. It was the first high school in Henderson, Nevada. The city of Henderson had several names but at the time of the construction of Basic High School the town was known as Basic Townsite. The original Basic High School was located where the present Henderson City Hall stands. In 1954 the high school was moved to a site near Van Wagen and Pacific Avenue. Since 1973 Basic High School has been located at 400 N. Palo Verde Drive. Basic High School became part of the Clark County School District in 1956. Basic High School kept its original name from 1942 until 2015. In 2015, Clark County School District changed the name from Basic High School to Basic Academy of International Studies.
