Good lect.you have succeeded not only in conveying the meaning of the verses but the spirit and emotional ecosystem of them so much so that one agrees that the four Act of this drama is the epitome of Kalidasa's work. Dhanyawad

Indonesia (largest Muslim majority country) already had 2 women Prime Ministers. Literature is a reflection of the psychological states of various societies. Sad to see alot of them had lived in through such great injustices and inequalities.

Isn't it Priyamvada who talks to Sage Durvasa while Anasuya hangs back ? (Mentioned otherwise in the lecture) Please clarify. It will help those giving exams 🙏
@@NibblePop According to Monier Williams translation, it says Anasuya persuades Priyamvada to go ahead and talk to Sage Durvasa while Anasuya hangs back promising to prepare offerings to Durvasa in case he comes back. Also, in the Sanskrit version we have to study (Shakunthalaprakashika), it says "प्रियंवदा द्रुतगत्या धावन्तम् महर्षिमनुगत्य प्रियवचनैरनुनयन्ती तं प्रत्यागमनाय प्रार्थयत ।" (Priyamvada quickly ran behind Maharshi and through sweet words prayed for him to come back.)
@@akhilasok91 Thank you for pointing that out. I am sorry but I have not come across Monier's version yet. However, since many standard editions have my version too , it won't be a big issue for students. In WBSU we keep this in mind. Anasuya and Priyamvada may be taken together as a unit. Please point out freely if you notice any more discrepancies. Thank you once again.

It was Anasuya who spoke to Durvasa and reported it back to Priyamvada. I double checked with William Jones' translation too.

Ma'am, Is Abhijansakunta just a fictional play or an epic??
It is a nataka, ancient Indian drama based on a subplot of the epic Mahabharata.

It is not clearly mentioned in the play. Although Medatithi is referred to his son in many places.
