Blackmores original solo on this track is simply a gem.. The sharp tone, the tune and the way he delivers it is special.. One of the all time greatest solos, atleast for me.
Wasted Sunsets was, and is, one of my favourite Purple songs! I have GREAT memories from the time the album was released back in 1984, and to see them do such a blinding version in 2013 makes me sob!!! What a f...ing great band they still are :-D OK, Gillan is soon to be 68 and can't do all those high notes, or screams if you will, but who cares? Singing was never about screaming! It's about SINGING, and he does it beautifully....evan at his age!!! There's no one like him....or this band!!!
I remember back in the early 80s I was hoping for a Purple reunion. It happend, and during 1984/ 1985 I listened ONLY to Perfect Strangers. Fantastic record, and one of my absolutely favourite records ever!!! To see the current line up do this song brings tears to my eyes. Can you believe it?? Gillan and Glover is turning 68 this year, and who would've thought back in '84ish that they still would be going on like this??? With a new record on the way??? My God... Deep Purple is all I can say!!!
This song blew my mind when I heard PS for the first time right after it was released (yeah, I'm THAT old), and it still gives me shivers down my spine! Even with this line up, even if Blackmores version is beyound anything we've heard! No one can copy or come close to his AMAZING version, but Morse is doing his best! And he sounds good! But the original? No one will ever come close to those soloes. Blackmore at his absolute best!!
Much respect to Deep Purple: for continuing the legacy by performing live and for their newest album release "Now What?!" "It's good to be King Yea, it's good to be King"
as Gillan said in recent interviews, the reason they're still touring that much is because Steve can take parts of the show.. He's the youngest member and it gives Gillan time to relax his voice between the songs!
Would you people stop whining about that this is not purple because RB is not in it, if you wanna listen to RB you can always listen to Blackmores night or the old purple records. In my opinion purple sounds AMAZING these days, can't wait for the new album.
I consider Deep Purple of the highest echelon of the great bands -EVEN after the MKII lineup - Steve Morse had a huge part in furthering the dynamics and betterment of this classic band.
This is and has been since the album came out my favourite purple song but couldn't even watch it before the first line was sung Blackmores work on it could not and never will be replaced Perfect Strangers in my view is their best album.
"Ladies & Gentlemen...I present the Steve Morse Show"...really...this is Deep Purple...how bout remembering that...and BTW...we know you can play..quite well also...but again..THIS IS DEEP PURPLE.....PERIOD.
As a lifelong Purple fan, sad for me to say it but there is a fine line between being there for the fans & saying enough is enough. To be honest things are shady with Gillans voice now, both he & Coverdale are past there best. Just hope he doesn't stay to the point were he is ridiculed. Much better to leave us with great memories than someone straining to reach those notes.
+ian armistead agree , totally ! better to leave . In my modest opinion ,Gillan was "finished" already in '85 . I repeated more and more : DP 's reunion in '84 was better with Coverdale-Hughes , younger and more modern approach to music than Gillan-Glover . Only my opinion , of course
Why always comparisons and criticism? Morse is a great guitarist. He's not off picking flowers at Octoberfest festivals with Yoko. Blackmore WAS great, Morse still is.
Only Ritchie can play his songs with the passion and intensity they were meant to be played with. After all, it was Ritchie that taught the guitar how to play!!! I was MAJORLY disappointed when I saw wanna be Morse on the video...smmfh
Great song. Purple still cut it even though Gillans vocals aren't as good as they were in 85. But whose are? As for Blackmore. I had the opportunity to see him with "Rainbow" recently. I do not know why he has gone back to playing Rainbow and DP songs. He was pretty awful tbh. One can't compare now with then but please, Blackmore no longer has the feel for rock. He was going through the motions. At least Purple seem to be enjoying themselves and the new album is excellent for TODAY'S band. This is not 1972 or even 1985. Blackmore almost destroyed Deep Purple in '93. Him leaving was the best thing that could have happened for the other members.
Gillan say :" Ritchie can't play well " But I say he can't sing well like the old days too so he must look himself first and later talks bad about Ritchie and Gillan only say excuses for don't play with Blackmore anymore and Ritchie years ago said :" I wanna play the strat with the guys of Purple just for fun and nostalgia but my main music is Blackmore's Night .
Nice to see. I like Steve's playin. But this song will never be as great again as on that take of Perfect Strangers. It all has to do with timing and how the notes are played
Mah!
if blackmore had stayed in the band ian and ritchie would have killed one another. anyone saying this isn't deep purple need to shut the hell up. I like blackmore but man stop arguing about it.
whoever that has been hired to manage the stage lights need to be fired. it is the most unimaginative i have seen so far and lacks imagination. when everything is lighted up and lighted up constantly it distracts fans from appreciating the music. i hate to say this but they need to go back and watch the imaginative lighting when Ritchie was in the band till 1993, no such crap. we don't need Christmas tree lighting for a rock band in the stature of Deep Purple.
Better to retire than to suck. As much as it pains me to say, but if it is meant to sound like this, better retire with a good name, than suck as this... And spoken from a DP fan...
Then go to see Blackmore live these days. Pale shadow of himself. Don’t get me wrong he is a legend and always will be, however at least Purple still not give up touring and Steve is a very versatile guitar player, and a good guy who keeps the Purple Flame alive. MKII finished in 93. Get on with it. Comparisons are pointless. Just enjoy the music.
Horrible. The studio version of the solo of this song is a masterpiece, which is why Blackmore never wanted to do it live. And Morse, as good as he is, doesn't even come close to Ritchie's brilliance
Blackmores original solo on this track is simply a gem.. The sharp tone, the tune and the way he delivers it is special.. One of the all time greatest solos, atleast for me.
I absolutely agree with you Lynn. I'm a Jeff Beck freak, and I'm not sure if even Jeff could match it.
R ight. Morse is good but he aint no Richie Blackmore. not by a longshot.
I'll never say anything bad about Steve Morse but the original is why Blackers is my favorite Rock guitarist.
Wasted Sunsets was, and is, one of my favourite Purple songs! This creates a kind of thematic link between Wasted Sunsets and Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming. Great.

whats ps perfect strangers ?

"It's good to be King
Yea, it's good to be King"
Brave that Steve touched this... as it is almost untouchable for ANYONE else...
Love Morse cause he respects Ritchie so Much ..
Still so wonderful voice , Ian Gillan . In this age , this performance , some young cannot do this !!! Respect !!
as Gillan said in recent interviews, the reason they're still touring that much is because Steve can take parts of the show.. He's the youngest member and it gives Gillan time to relax his voice between the songs!
Be forever, Deep Purple! Long live, Ian Gillan!
Wasted Sunsets back in the set, that's a good thing, Iove this song :D .
Would you people stop whining about that this is not purple because RB is not in it, if you wanna listen to RB you can always listen to Blackmores night or the old purple records. In my opinion purple sounds AMAZING these days, can't wait for the new album.
Yes, love that tune since the 80’s… the legendary Deep Purple i grew up with…
this song is nothing without Ritchie. Period.
I consider Deep Purple of the highest echelon of the great bands -EVEN after the MKII lineup - Steve Morse had a huge part in furthering the dynamics and betterment of this classic band.
This and the title track are 2 of my favorite "new" DP songs.

one of my favourite songs, rarely resurrected
I didn't know that there's a live version of this song with the current line-up of Deep Purple. Thanks for uploading.
wasted sunsets in blackmore's style awesome ;in morse's style awesome 😉
"Ladies & Gentlemen...I present the Steve Morse Show"...really...this is Deep Purple...how bout remembering that...and BTW...we know you can play..quite well also...but again..THIS IS DEEP PURPLE.....PERIOD.
EXCELLENT guitar work.
Morse power 🔋 😊
One of the rare live versions of their reunion classic
Good job recording this under what must have been difficult circumstances. Good performance by the band too.
i always like blackmore's solo guitar
Wow. They play this one from perfect strangers.. It wouldn't happen often that bands play their hidden ones
Good job Blackmore....
Good Steve Morse....🎸🤟🤟👍👍

@@lionelalias4561 I don't count the Satriani-lineup, as he didn't do an album with Purple or anything alike. He was a replacement.

What a shamble! Nothing more to be said.
This just proves that Ritchie Blackmore is Deep Purple.
GREAT ❤
Totally agree with you!!!!! Blackmore will NEVER make another hard rock album.........or a desent record!!! The current Purple WILL!!!!
sempre solto no mundo......prisões e profecias

They should bring back Gypsy's Kiss as well
Still the greatest though Blackmore left the band and Lord RIP
Beautiful ending 8:23
Well at least he tried. Thank's dude!!! :)
Something missing , that spark that purple used to have .
Shame !
i filmed that , iwas so far away the more i zoom the more it is difficult to keep the cam steady
Thank you.. May the only available live performance of 1984 classic Wasted sunsets
Steady or not steady - I think that we can all be glad that you did!
Love Steve Morse, but BLACKMORE OWNS THIS.

Blackmore great forever
Song starts at 4:53
Absolutely fantastic!!!!!
Does anyone know what brand guitar Steve is playing
I think it's his signature Steve Morse Ernie Ball Music Man guitar
This guitar solo is like confused, don’t know where to go, sorry, nothing compared to Ritchie’s solo.
i see :D no matter, the main thing the music is there :D
just go to 4:54 to hear the song

agree ! only Ritchie can play this ballad !!! .......... and Lord (r.i.p.) plays his fantastic Hammond !
♥️

That's a ridiculous statement....
sensacional
This song is very strong in the character of Ritchie Blackmore but it lost its character and even became damaged when Steve Morse performed it
Guess hard to capture live anyway...

That's because he's nostalgic and they're not - you have to merit to be missed.
Gillan's waistcoat?
Is the beas
great sound
Great
steve morse is something they found in Ritchie blackmore's morning shit
Nice to see. I like Steve's playin. But this song will never be as great again as on that take of Perfect Strangers. It all has to do with timing and how the notes are played
You're wrong, off course! This song is SOMETHING, even without Ritchie! I grew up with RB, but my life doesen't depend on him ;-)
I think Morse is fantastic
Wheres Blackmore ????????????????????????
I'll get you 05\06\13

nobody ( Blackmore included) can play this song live.

Black more can,t play this solo now-a-day
