Salt only works to 20 degrees, then you have to use calcium carbonate mixed with sand or cinders. I have never seen a salt spreader without a plow on it - sort of useless that way. When I worked in NY D.O.T. plowing snow, I switched between a motor grader and a 4wd Chevy C-60 with a "V"plow and wing plows. I used to get the Chevy up to 30mph and drop the wing plows and fill every driveway up. We didn't use skids on the plows, just rested them on the cutter bars to get a clean surface to spread salt or calcium carbonate, depending on the air temp. Never broke a truck, but I seen others blow hydraulic rams like they were toilet paper tubes, what a waste. They always had me plow State Route 104 along Lake Ontario from Pulteyville to Fulton. Long route, but great scenery in the Winter. GREAT OVERTIME!!!
So much for the snow plows! The road was covered over again within about 5 minutes. Lol! SOOO glad I live here in the South where snow is a TREAT instead of a curse!
It never ceased to amaze me at the number of people who are on the road in the snow that doesn't even need to bed out there; I don't feel sorry for some of them. If this is an area that gets a lot of snow, why don't these people invest in a set of snow chains or stay home? I live on the Mississippi gulf coast and when it does snow enough for it to stick on the roads (the police, and first responders have their hands full. thanks for a very good video
Think how much fuel money you would save with good winter tires. Also you could save some time. And would have a lotta safer drives. Super nice videos man! Subbed.
For real, dude. I have gotten into and out of more places with a two wheel drive s10 during a Western NY winter than these guys can with all wheel drive.
@@MasteringTheModel Right... I'm just south of Erie PA and we get that same lake effect snow off of Lake Erie. We learn how to drive in snow rather quickly around here... Well, some of us do lol
This is why I carry a shovel, a bag of cat litter and a bag of Ice Melt in my truck as soon as the first storm is forecast. Even with winter tires, I don't like to travel without them.
Clearly these were all only 2wd and the problem is people slamming the gas spinning the tires and not rocking the wheel side to side. This was infuriating to watch, from somebody who lives in Canada where we get more snow and more cold. Oh, and I don't use winter tires and have never been stuck.
@@DR0CK There were lots of awd and a few 4wd vehicles in there. You're no hero not running snow tires. I myself ran all season tires for years, figured they were fine until I actually got a set of legit winter tires, HUGE difference between even cheap snow tires and the expensive all season tires I had (they were even winter rated all season tires). I have a 4wd truck with snows and now an AWD Impreza getting studded winter tires this year. Not because I'm some "amateur" driver that needs the help, but because I'm an experienced, knowledgeable driver that doesn't need the extra risk when I'm hours from any real town in the middle of the night in a blizzard, or when I need that extra traction from when some dumb ass with all seasons looses control and I have to give them room. Never been stuck means you've never really driven much. Grew up doing "hill billy" shit in old mud trucks, drove professionally for a few years, I'm a pretty decent race car driver and I still put the best tires possible on my vehicles in the winter.
You don't just step on the gas for front wheel drive in snow. When it slips, it's because your front wheels are not making contact with the road. So step on the gas, lower gear, and turning left and right to kick the snow out of the the way, until your wheels make contact with the actual road for traction. Of course you can go between forward and backward, using the same technique, if you are stuck. And most of the time it should help. Lol
simple tip to avoid being stuck like this, doesnt help a lot but will get you going like the other cars in the video. LOWER your tyre pressures particually if theyre above 40PSI id say youd want around 25PSi depending on vehicle weight and size
also to increase THROTTHLE for FWD car and be VERY careful with it for a RWD car. For AWD - just step on a gas and turn the wheel left to right very fast, so it will go the way you see
Once upon a time, when winters were more severe, EVERYONE went through the annual ritual of switching to proper tires. We got through in all but the worst weather. Then the government invested in all these trucks, salters, plows, etc. and told everyone to stop using those tires cuz they were bad for the roads. Now we all get stuck and the roads get destroyed anyway from the inside-out from all the salt.
I think about how you stated one car came down the road the wrong way. Three trucks had to back up. two trucks stopped. Had to slow down workers plowing the street and another city trucked called off his rout to help. Not to mention the delays from the other cars. They should had just push the car that came down the wrong side further to the side and said figure it out buddy.
Most people make the same mistake. They push the accelerator pedal too far. Better shift to 2nd gear, then drive off slowly and carefully. So far I have only driven cars with front wheel drive. I never had problems. In summer I drive with real summer tires and in winter with real winter tires. Whether Bridgestone, Continental or Good Year tires, I had good experiences with these three.
I miss growing up in an area like this where people would come out to help each other. Now I live in southern CA and thank God it doesn't snow. So many would be like "get the f**k outta my way!"
Except for Mt Waterman, Mt Baldy, Mt High East, Mt High West, Snow Valley, Bear Mountain, Snow Summit…yup it don’t snow in Southern California, especially at the top of San Jacinto.
Thank you Udizzy! The states with snow should update their mvd test, people trying to drive in snow all the wrong way!! I can say this because being from Nashua, & Merrimack, New Hampshire. Working in AZ as a Haul Truck operator of a Caterpillar 793C, in a mine that recently experienced snow, & rain, moving 300 tons of material...you don't hit the brakes!
The second I started watching this video I knew it was Worcester, MA. I live in Auburn and have been up those hills many times. Always good for a fun watch on a snowy day. Awesome video!
So very few people understand the added traction you get when dropping your tire air pressures on slippery road conditions. Here in the Northern Plains, I run 20 to 25 psi in my Jeep and Suburban tires. Yes, it makes that much difference. I learned this during my nine years as a dirt track speedway official.
Yup, I remember getting stuck in front wheel drive Volvo a few years back, was trying everything all to no avail, then I dropped the tyre pressure down to about 15 psi and just drove it straight out of the drift. Easy.
I grew up in the desert south west. Never drove in the snow a day in my life and when I was 28 the company I worked for sent me to a god forsaken place like this for 2 years.
Udizzy, you're right, this is The Big One! I loved it. I live on a hill in Salt Lake City and our favorite winter sport is watching people try to go up or down our hill. There are actually large concrete barriers at the bottom of our street so cars can't slide through the sound wall and fall 15 feet down onto an Interstate. I hope you have another excellent snow video this winter. PS I've been a subscriber of yours for a long time, love the fire videos too.

That Subaru.... That was all driver error, and I suspect bad/bald tires played a big part in that fiasco too. Notice how the 2-wheel drive Lexus manages to get out (twice) but the AWD Subaru can't. This is a lack of winter driving skills on display here. I would have gotten that Subie out in less than 30 seconds. In fact I would have never even got it stuck in the first place. And furthermore this is why you always keep a shovel in the car so that -when- you get stuck you can shovel your way out.

FIRST - you have to know how to drive in that stuff. (Like, don't cut the corner short INTO a pile of deep snow!) SECOND - Turn INTO the slide! lol. In all fairness to the drivers in this video, it looks like there's ice underneath the snow and that is almost impossible to get around on. Those days, it's best to stay home if you can!
Great filming Dizzy. Where I live is on a junction where 2 hilled roads meet, when it snows we do the same thing and watch the jackass's get stuck or crash. It's free entertainment as most of them can't drive. Take care Dizzy.
You've noticed what I have: Sometimes people have started moving forward and they hit the brakes! Maintaining momentum is vital. If you stop, you're screwed. Also a spinning tire creates more ice. If you give just enough gas to get the tire moving slowly you can gain traction. Some of these people need to move to Miami.
Yeah, I don't think I'd go to sleep either with all the noise! I'd stay up & film too! So I'd be sipping on wine laughing my a$$ off WHILE filming! (Only way for me to fall asleep with all that noise) Awesome vid & commentary LOL
In most of the UK similar weather happens once every decade and similar chaos ensues. If you live somewhere where snow like this happens every year, not having the correct tyres is less forgivable.
I had to learn to drive in snow ...I was taught by a guy that was from Ohio and then I spent a winter in Wisconsin , you drove on roads with pot holes in the ice 4 inches deep. I was from the south ,, and went with a few guys and watched how they drove . I do it very well now ,, strange thing is ,,the only wreck I was ever in was it snowed here in North Carolina and a friend from NY ,,laughed at it ,, and we got in his car ,,and about three miles he slide into a pole ..lol,,no harm except to car... One main thing I did learn was that some times ,,no matter how good you can drive ,,your car / vehicle isn't going to go up or down that hill,,, too much snow ,,or ice ,,,and of course the idea ,,of braking at the wrong time ... which is always makes people lose control ,, oh well,,, its fun to watch
Hi UDizzy! I grew up in Middletown, RI and graduated HS in 1969. I have been in the Fire Service for 43 years. I enjoy your videos both the Fire coverage and the snow video in the hills of Worcester.
Something about watching a city worker getting stuck with a 4x4 truck just seems interesting. I drove in similar stuff with just a rear wheel drive bus of the same chassis. Then years later in an F550 in the same stuff I got stuck cause the weight distribution sucked on the Ford as it was heavy in the front. The GM K5500 chassis was far better. Also ran a TC1000 short bus with a 500 pound concrete block between the frame rails in the back that did amazing in all conditions. Weight on the drives is your friend. And for what it is worth I pulled a 4x4 plow truck out of a snowbank with a rear wheel drive E350 van and never spun the tires doing it although I had chains on the rear with bald tires.
This is a good example of why even if you have AWD, proper tires really matter

Get off the brake, put it in gear, etc. LMAO! I loved this.
I love the way you are narrating this you are doing a great job you have an excellent view
So much for the snow plows! The road was covered over again within about 5 minutes. Lol! SOOO glad I live here in the South where snow is a TREAT instead of a curse!
I see it as a treat also, But Most don't. Cheers Dizzy.
Subbed.
People just don't realize that when the wheels aren't turning and sliding, they don't impart any directional force.
It is crazy how many people don't know how to drive in snow.
Even with winter tires, I don't like to travel without them.
your all wheel drive is only as good as its tires ....
Very True, Cheers Dizzy.
@@udizzy1969 #itsonlysnowbro
@@DR0CK That's absurd, tires are the single biggest contributing factor when it comes to staying connected to the road. Go buy winter tires.
Lol
Stay Warm Dizzy.
simple tip to avoid being stuck like this, doesnt help a lot but will get you going like the other cars in the video. LOWER your tyre pressures particually if theyre above 40PSI id say youd want around 25PSi depending on vehicle weight and size
also to increase THROTTHLE for FWD car and be VERY careful with it for a RWD car. For AWD - just step on a gas and turn the wheel left to right very fast, so it will go the way you see
⛄"Love it"⛄This looks like Christmas town. What a view of the slippy slide.🐞🎧🎼🎶. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it, Stay Warm. Dizzy.
Good rule of thumb: when stuck keep wheels straight until you are in motion. Really funny video!
Thanks Chris, Cheers Dizzy.
I hope They Learn for this year. lol Dizzy.
I'm trying to figure out why the driver hits the brakes when the car gets going, Maybe incompetence driving in the snow..
Maybe.
scared.
I enjoyed the calm, relaxed, but somewhat comical nature in the narration.
Your best yet, kept me amused all through. Funny how at times like these everyone is in a hurry, lol.
Thank You Very Much, I do My Best. Stay safe Dizzy.
when there's nothing on cable on a cold snowy day
Most people make the same mistake.
I need some snow like this to do some e brake drifting in an empty parking lot. We haven't got any good snow in Omaha this winter.
Come to Minnesota, Minneapolis and you’ll get all the snow you want. I call it MINNESNOWTA and MINNECOLDTA. 😂😂😁😁😁😁😜
I miss growing up in an area like this where people would come out to help each other. Now I live in southern CA and thank God it doesn't snow. So many would be like "get the f**k outta my way!"
The thing is, It's unsafe to help, you can get hurt and They just drive away, Stay Warm out there. Dizzy.
They Do Need It For Sure. But I'm Just a Viewer . lol Stay safe Dizzy.
put it in 2x speed and watch it .. it gets even funnier.
Sooo July, 4 or AWD bought, great. When the snow comes I am sorted! Dooh!! Some really shitty driving going on there, but thanks for the laughs.
always fun to watch "front row seat" when idiots drive :) best regards from Norway ...................
The second I started watching this video I knew it was Worcester, MA. I live in Auburn and have been up those hills many times. Always good for a fun watch on a snowy day. Awesome video!
Right on My friend, Stay Safe The Dizz.
We Love it. But not many Do. Stay Warm Dizzy.
God forsaken 😂😂
lol this is what happens when people buy all seasons to "save money"
That Could Be, or There first winter Here. lol Cheers Dizzy.
Snow tires wouldn't help those idiots. They have traction problems when starting to move so, what do they do? Stomp on the gas of course.
Even winter's wouldn't help you on black ice.
next couple days , months , years , loads of vehicles coming in for transmission work
you'd need studded tires to drive on ice . there be ice under that snow lol .
Make Some funny video's, We love that kind. lol Thank You. Cheers Dizzy.
By far the best video ever on youtube, I couldn't stop watching!
I have so many more, enjoy the playlist my friend, Cheers Dizzy.
@@udizzy1969 You are a genius! It's the perfect blend of action, drama, and guiltless human suffering without the tension of missing something if you don't stay glued to the screen!
Haha as someone who grew up in Mass this brings back memories. I got stuck trying to get home from work once and I vowed never again. The best part about this video is that you sound just like my brother in law .
Well We welcome you back anytime, You Be safe, and Stay warm. Dizzy.
Hey its snowing let's go for a drive 😆
That's not snow. It's "global warming." Just ask any left-wing wacko. They'll tell you. 😂

Best video I have seen in a long time. Thanks for all the laughs
Glad you enjoyed it, Enjoy The snow playlist many fun videos. Dizzy.
The guy at 9 mins was checking on his phone how to shovel snow.
So awesome how everyone comes out to help!! We need more of that in this country!
Great people in the Hood, Be safe Dizzy.
Well, they have like 100 people per apartment. Lol
Right. I’m blessed to have neighbors like that.
Can't understand why some people don't believe in snow tires.
It is way cheaper to buy a box of drywall screws and stud your all weather tires. Great for traction and are easily removed when the snow is gone
They do, just can't afford em. I used to have a set until I got kids. People gotta eat
@@sledhead88 well you got to eat!!!! So you defentley don't need snow tyres !! Thats fore shure
Snow tyres are way cheaper Then a smashed Up car!!! But well !!
Or just take a shovel and clean out in front of front and back wheels throw couple shovel loads in front of each wheel then get on with plowing and salting. Everybody is just so lazy these days. I can't believe this they will stand around. Should be one boss driver and one laborer. Boss tells laborer to get that shovel, get to it. Damn ,right or wrong here?
Carry a shovel and sand in your trunk.....its totally the driver
Thids is by far the most entertaining non winter dring video ive seen, i needed a good laugh
I grew up in Montreal and seeing all the fun during a snowstorm brings back memories. Love the 3 story New England walk ups!
Thanks Steve, Happy You Enjoyed It. Be Safe Dizzy.
I miss the snow! I live in NY went the last 2 winters with no snow, I’m hoping for a few this year. Nothing more beautiful then fresh snow, plus I just got a new Ram I wanna text the tires out
Well swing up to new England this year should be a hoot. Cheers Dizzy.
Great video. My brother lives on a hill at a stop sign and he would watch all the non driving people and just watch them.
I love this guy! I wish I could have been sitting at his window with him and watching it all! 😊

@@udizzy1969 I live way down in Georgia, South Georgia to be exact. That would be a nice drive. Unless I take a plane. Keep posting your videos, I love them.
Thank you very much. The Dizz.
I would like that too. But Germany is so far away
Good reminder to put on the snow tires, which is happening tomorrow. No surprise that all these people think they're invincible with 4WD/AWD. It's the tires. With snow tires, both of our FWD daily drivers do fine in the snow.
Cheers Dizzy.
Don't matter how big and heavy your truck is, snow still reigns supreme. Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
01 VW Passat v6 4- motion is a beast... never had any problems in the snow
It's snowing heavily -- Let's drive the car!
I love driving in the snow
I always find it funny when people think they will get unstuck by spinning their tires at 90mph
They may but the sudden traction that a tire hits and they'll be out of control quite quickly as a result.
THAT'S ONE WAY MELTING YOURSELF OUT OFTHE SITUATION !
Hey uDizzy1969, you are a great entertainer--love your narration! Cheers from St. Louis my friend!
Glad you enjoyed it, Catch the playlist and Enjoy. Dizzy.
This was actually very entertaining.. thanks for sharing it. 🙂👍
All that sand on the back of the truck but they didn't have enough common sense to put some under the tires 🤦♂️
Ya Some Just never learn, The Dizz.
I wonder if they should mount a dispenser that shoots sand/salt in FRONT of those trucks, just behind the plow blade.
Just invest in a set of snow chains, you know that its 99% you're never gonna use them, but just consider that they come with the car like part of it!
If you've not got some you're gonna wish you had maybe one day!!!
Stay warm, The Dizz.
Truer words were never spoken. AND LEARN HOW TO PUT THEM ON.
This was fun to watch! Thank you for sharing with us.

You lucky man got an evening filling program. More amazing than any circus. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks Dizzy.
When two wheel, front drive cars can get around and an AWD couldn't, it HAD to be junk tires.
Thanks Dizzy.
No, it's probably a junk driver. Most people vastly exxagerate their real capabilities to everyone including themselves.
I love watching them repeatedly put the hammer down 100% throttle. "It's gonna work this time......"
Ya , They think so. lol Cheers Dizzy.
I'd never have a dull moment living there! Never mind TV.
Very true, every day is a hoot. Cheers Dizzy.
How about a slippery iced side walk .
That stuck Forester or whatever it is in the first 10 minutes is basically the definition of "I don't need snow tires I have AWD"
Stay Warm. Dizzy.
We need more of this. I want more of this.
what the snow or the vids
I live in Wyoming; never have chained up. there were times i wish i would have had a set of chains but managed to get through. even with a low-slung Volvo with 2 feet of snow on the ground.
Exactly!! so we watch and Laugh. Cheers Dizzy.
I love a good snowstorm, I grew up in Buffalo, NY.
In most of the UK similar weather happens once every decade and similar chaos ensues. If you live somewhere where snow like this happens every year, not having the correct tyres is less forgivable.
Every year..here
I had to learn to drive in snow ...I was taught by a guy that was from Ohio and then I spent a winter in Wisconsin , you drove on roads with pot holes in the ice 4 inches deep.
Winter is on it's way, Stay tune for more craziness. The Dizz.

I have been in the Fire Service for 43 years.
I enjoy your videos both the Fire coverage and the snow video in the hills of Worcester.
Very cool! Thanks For your Service. Stay Safe Dizzy.
They will Learn My friend, Or be in another video. lol Be safe Dizzy.
In Estonia we use winter tyers when there is snow or Black ice
we in Germany too …. if you have a 4x4 with good wintertyers , you are the boss on the road ;-)
