@@style5tie Vega didn't make the 6 string neck for Sonny. C.E.Ward in Charlotte, N.C. made it in late 1969 or early 1970. By late spring or early summer of 1972 Sonny had a Gibson with a 6 string neck in it. The best I remember a man named M.K. Kirk made that neck for him.

Before him everybody(as far as I know) played a 5 string.
Everybody still plays a 5 string. His 6 was a custom built Vega and they are extremely rare.
