I replaced my engine mounts with oem. Made a big difference in engine vibration. If anyone sees this video and decides to lift the engine from the oil pan make sure you disconnect the air intake system from the engine. I tore my air intake boot. Also remove the alternator air intake as well. Maybe lifting from the top like the OP did works better but that's what I learned. Great video. Highly recommend doing the mounts on these older cars.
The fun part about this video is that the sun didn't go down before he was done. My experience working with my M3 is always "Start bright and early!" and finish hopefully before 1 AM. hahaha
I guess im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
@Cain Gianni I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Currently building my E36. Going to comment on every video that I watch until Quinn notices me. haha...glad these videos are still up. Also...thought that you would have to mess with the subframe...glad you don't have too.
Decided to replace my 19 year old mounts today before I put my new clutch and rebuilt Getrag 6-speed tranny back in my 'vert. This was a great video--I made use of your tips on doing the D/S first and the the P/S and for keeping the bolts loose on the side not being worked on to keep the engine aligned. Tricks like this based on lessons learned are what make your videos so helpful. Thanks, man! PS. Love the LEGO analog to explain the motor mount concept to newbies. Very cool.
Followed this video and it Helped a lot. Did the AKG Motorsport mounts today and two things that helped me.. -Installing the mount top threaded end first, then bottom threaded end through the hole on the cross member. the AKG mounts i had have longer threaded bolt on the top so easier to get them in that way. - laying underneath behind the wheel, use a flashlight and look up at crossmember and just barely see the mount's alignment nipple poking through to verify it's aligned properly. Thanks for the video.
If you want a cheaper OEM replacement for E36s, I mean I dunno where you are but in the UK 36 mounts are crazy money each, but E34 mounts also fit. And they're waaay cheaper.
Great video man. Followed the steps in the video and they were dead on. Ironically, the passenger side took me longer, just couldn't get the engine high enough. Needed to lift the engine 1/4" more, and couldn't do it. Used a dremel and cut the top stud. After that, everything came together. Thank you.
Legos! You mean a cherry picker 😁🍒 I'm going solid for my mounts. My e46 parts car came with two new trans mounts in the box, gonna see if they'll fit my e36. Both manual 98 e36 vs 99 e46. Thank the lord I came to the e36 church! Try doing this on an SHO genI, II, & III. You do a great job of walking thru the difficulties one may encounter and not make yourself look like a know it all. Another quality piece. Thanks!
awesome man! are you going to daily solid mounts? lol send it. ive heard they are rough. +1 for SHO, FF mounts are always a pain. no torque mounts on RWD lol
Hey man! This is a great video, do you think it's possible to do the oil pan gasket by unbolting the engine mounts like this and somehow holding the engine up? Would there be enough room to pull the oil pan without dropping the subframe and steering rack? Would love if you made a oil gasket video. Thanks for all your help!
Im taking a 4 cylinder 1.8 out of my e36 and putting a 2.5 straight 6 in When i was taking the 1.8 out, one of the engine mount bolts just pulled straight out the rubber block so i think i need new rubber blocks 😂 Might go for poly blocks seeing as im in there anyway Also, im wondering whether the aluminium castings are the same fit on all engines, if so i can use my 1.8 castings on my 2.5
you could try... might give you more room. you might also try removing the driver's side mount and lowering the engine for more room as well, dont know if that would work, but if you cannot get it it would be worth a shot.
Does it save any time to do the transmission mounts at the same time? Or do you have to jack up the transmission in a different spot to get to the trans mounts?
I mean itll save you a bit because the car will already be on jackstands, trans mountd are easy. Just place the jack under the trans, unbolt, lower the trans on the jack, remove and install
I replaced my motor mounts and trans mount with oem parts. My e36 m3 is still vibrating with new mounts. I feel it alot between 40-60 miles and then smoothes out at over 80. The shifter also vibrates during those speeds. Could it be the drive shaft? The flex disc still looks new. Any suggestions would help. Thank you
it could be a combination of the flex disc and center support bearing. is it vibrating at idle? I had bad transmission mounts and the thing shook like hell at idle and off idle. if it vibrates at idle its a mount. I would replace the trans mounts honestly and go from there.
M3NACE Motor (engine) mounts and transmission mounts were replaced. Driving on the highway when hits about 2500-3000rpm that's when i feel it the most. If i clutch during the drive vibration stops. Does not vibrate during idle. Thanks for the reply
Curious how these held up? In my e46 I was running delrin mounts for the engine and the trans I'm thinking about doing a 90a setup all around for my e36 turbo.
He replaces mounts that look like those he is installing.(before poly...big fan bro) THOSE ARE NOT THE RIGHT MOUNTS FOR THE VERT. The vert mounts are smaller with metal on top and bottom. Websites that have them are $$$-- but URO DOESN"T LIST them as COMPATIBLE according to part no. So it doesn't come up.
My powersteering rack looks the same as yours #E36Life. I've been meaning to replace my engine mounts (already bought them months ago) so I'm glad you made the video. I went with the factory rubber ones because I was worried about obnoxious engine vibration. I have polymounts all over throughout the suspension, but I was worried about using them for the engine. How's the vibration on your mounts? Also, I noticed the watermark on your videos lately. Nice touch.
+1 for watermark lol thanks. I will be doing a sunday drive on the topic of poly mounts not this week but next week, honestly they are not bad at all. i am running 80A mounts though so they are on the softer side of poly's

The legos was probably one of the best explanations, because you used legos haha
lmao +1 for legos

Yes e36 is my first car and the lego explanation worked wonders🤙

Thanks for this video. Very informative. Very quick job with the right tools i was surprised! Hardest part was squeezing the new mounts in place
Where's the "how to jack up your car" video link??
Tackling this tomorrow. I followed all your manual swap videos (for my car, and a buddies) and now this. Thanks so much!
Insanely good video 5 years later immediately got a like and a sub
Love the Lego diagram. As a first timer doing this on my Z3 this helped me visualize.
of course! +1 for legos

Good looking out, gonna pick up a long ass extension and a swivel and tackle these in a week or two
good luck man!

So I need to replace the engine aluminum bar mount on the right side, (red lego) will the same process work for this?
Yessir!
I subbed at the Lego diagram explanation. Most people just try their best to film and explain but you did well on the theory instead!
Thanks! I Love lego's lol

If you want to replace the pan gasket with the motor in the car, you need to completely remove the subframe, otherwise the motor needs to be removed
Thank you for single handedly helping me fix my shitbox with all your videos 😂🤝🤝 oh man that broke? Must be a Quinn video on it

You will need 2.5 mount arms, they are not the same.
@@M3NACE ok no worries, i figured they would be different for some reason or another
Yo can I do the jack trick but reverse because my passenger side is ripped right out and would need changed first
Yeah absolutely!
Did you feel any changes after you change the mounts please?
Yeah, the bad vibrations and associated NVH went away. The old mounts were blown out.
Great how-to! I'm just wondering if "192 inch-lbs to 400 inch-lbs" is really considered "freakin tight"?
Spec is 30 foot pounds, so 360 inch pounds is "freakin tight"
How are the poly mounts on the street?
These mounts are great on the street, 80A motor mounts and new stock trans mounts.
I wonder if I can do this engine tilt thing to get enough room to remove the starter...
you could try... might give you more room. you might also try removing the driver's side mount and lowering the engine for more room as well, dont know if that would work, but if you cannot get it it would be worth a shot.
Is there a video for your oil cooler? It looks great!
Yup! Its on here somewhere.
Does it save any time to do the transmission mounts at the same time? Or do you have to jack up the transmission in a different spot to get to the trans mounts?
I mean itll save you a bit because the car will already be on jackstands, trans mountd are easy. Just place the jack under the trans, unbolt, lower the trans on the jack, remove and install
is this process the same if ill be installing engine risers?

Amazing job man. Looks a little scary though when you jack up the engine between 2 wooden blocks that might move and the engine fall. Amazing 😉

Mazda Rx7 FD 1993 maybe the guibo
Sometimes it is the center support bearing like it was on mine

its called an engine not a motor. A motor run's on electricity get it right pleb

Clever use of Legos! Liked n subscribed
Thanks!
what kinda wood do you use ? I tried jacking with some wood but it broke and my car almost fell
Just standard 2x4, be careful my friend!
Very satisfying video for people who don't have a car yet lol

Good! 4 years in and they are still proper.
hey bro! shop quoted me 2 hours for the motor mounts...seems quite long. How long did it take you to do this?
@@kwang-o doesnt seem unreasonable, probably took me about that on the floor with a jack.

Hey thanks a lot for helping , i have 328i vet i hope its the same job
How did you go? Need to do mine on my vert but I've heard they are different
Great video! I might do mine. looks like you didn't have to deal with rusty bolts. That might add a layer of difficulty to my M3 with 125K.
Considering doing the same to my z3. 100% need replaced. I was looking at his thinking "they ain't even that bad" lol mine are in a disgraceful state
Best tutorial out there 👌🏼 thanks a lot
Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
Dude this video is amazing. Very helpful and specific you’re the man thank you
Really good video.
thanks!
i guess u visually cant tell is the mounts are bad. Cause they didnt look cracked or whatever
I got solid mounts 💪🏿
Not all heros wear capes
nice job!
Thank you!
