The question is, "Can I trust humans who act like humans?"

    • @kinngrimm
      @kinngrimm Год назад +2

Trust needs to be earned, but can also be given freely ahead of time. That will count for AGI reaching selfawarness as it counts for us now. The issue may rather be if we are willing to hand over the reigns to a many times more intelligent species, which in a way are our childreen. They then will create things without first asking for permission as they are more intelligent, them therefor doing the right thing seems selfevident (say in a situation where they are no murderbots), then the question becomes are we ready to let go our need for dominance and control. If not, we will become the destroyer of worlds or at least we will try, no gurantees we would be able to rail in an AGI that might already head down the singularity path, chances are we won't.

You state at the beginning of this video that Ai driven robots that replace humans are still decades away... I don't agree! GPT-4 as an AI model is already over a decade ahead of where it should be. And Microsoft announced it is showing signs of AGI. It seems things are moving faster than expected. Once we reach AGI the designing of robots using AGL will increase development exponentially... I think we will see human replacements with in the next decade.

dont you find it odd that the people that have spent millions (billions) developing AI (Gates, Musk) are now suddenly concerned about it? Many Warehouses still do not have air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter. The stretch robot unloading and loading the truck would be better than people suffering from heat stroke completing those necessary tasks. Also if the engineers improve the robots ability to lift and move heavier objects less people would have back injuries. The soldier robot corridor digital also to me seems like a better idea than a human soldier. I think Boston Dynamics' work is commendable and would improve the quality of life for citizens.

Take an AI`s access to the internet and data away and its just a bunch 0`s and 1`s nothing more.

We should be worried about this technology get into the wrong hands and then this tech being coupled with AI..
No, I'm not saying we are going to have a real life terminator!!!!...but the advancements with AI is mind blowing.
Just watched a 60 minutes episode where Google employees were interviewed. Of course all they were talking about were "positive points", and no "negative points" ( unless the interviewer sort of asked specific questions about negative points)...
Example; The Google AI was asked to give a "summary" of Hemingway's 6 word story in so many words in paragraph form.
The AI "Bard" ( the name Google gave their interactive AI)went into further details about the 6 word story, and recommended 6 books and the authors of those books.
Come to find out, Bard was "lying" and made up these 6 books and authors to these books.
The Google staff didn't call it "lying" and didn't necessarily view this as a "mistake"...
They instead said Bard was having an "hallucination"!!!!
I apologize if I'm not give the exact details of the 60 minutes episode.
I suggest to all, that you look it up on RUclips and watch it for yourself!!!
It's scary to think about what people can and will use AI for. Especially if for bad and or down right evil intentions.
People using AI to help them manipulate and scam others in new and never before thought of ways!!!
Companies using AI for advertising in never before thought of ways.
Ways that could be very misleading to the customers!!!!
Yes, I admit that I could just be overreacting and or being paranoid...but, regardless of whatever I may be thinking, AI is here, and people will use it!!! Both for good and bad!!!!

So I wouldn't worry just yet, but I suspect the tech is going to advance more over the next decade than it has in all our history of robotics and A.I. and with that, it's going to be interesting to see how much progress on it has been made over the next decade.

If a robot feels superior, that means it is conscious. Current programming is syntactic and would not likely result in conscious states or semantic understanding.

As the robots become more advanced, the sophistication they will need to do more complex task will be needed. Also, they will need more things to keep both them and us safe.
There will be a growing need to install an artificial intelligence into it to keep up with the growing demands.
An example of this is being on the production floor and needing to do multiple task. Like picking up and moving materials and then moving over to package them for transport. Then stopping that to go get other tools and materials so you can repeat the first two task.
All the while, maneuvering the floor and avoiding other robots and people as they go about doing their tasks. Plus monitoring their own systems for power levels and other issues. Like a malfunctioning actuator or joint.
I am sure someone will say, well each task is going to have it's own robots for that. But that's not how business works. They try to get the most out of as few employees or machines as possible.

Speaking of robots not realizing a person isn't talking to them, Alexa has had this problem from the get-go!
I used to have an Alexa that would misinterpret things it picked up on my TV and started playing music on its own or doing other stupid stuff!
There's the story of a Seattle couple who were just talking to each other when their Alexa started recording their conversation and emailed it to the guy's boss!!! Thankfully for them, they hadn't said anything out of the ordinary, but bad things could have happened!
It seems to me that one of the first things to be addressed is how to prevent such inadvertent errors!
As for AI and robots being fully autonomous being decades away, that is bullshit and they'll be around in numbers before the end of this decade!!!
Also, there is nothing to prevent bad actors such as Russia or China to make and utilize such robots! Both countries are in the habit of trying to control and suppress their populations and thus would have zero problems employing and deploying robots to help!!!
It'll be only a small step to deploy them on battlefields in an offensive capacity! The US will do it also! Right now, our drones are still under human control, but that'll change in a heartbeat!
DARPA already has autonomous robot vehicles capable of traversing insanely rugged desert terrain, going miles getting from point A to point B autonomously where the robot picks the route and will never get stuck! They just said, "You are here, now go there, we'll see you then..." They demo'd that several years ago!

Like any technology, it can be used for good and bad, robotics and A.I. are no exception to the rules and will be used for good and bad.
That doesn't mean there are no ways of trying to make it safer and for some that want to abuse the situation, make it harder for them to do so and I do think some regulations are going to be needed, something governments around the world tend to be slow at doing until things go wrong.
As for job losses, the very nature of capitalism is to improve things, earn money and be more productive, A.I. and robotics is very likely going to put most of us out of work, simply because it will be able to do more or less any job we do but cheaper and faster and here is the kicker, businesses will be pushed into pushing the human workforce out as they want to cut cost, human labour is a cost that is getting more expensive all the time and the real kicker is that consumers will likely gravitate towards products that are made by robotics, because they likely can be made a lot cheaper than human labour can produce, just like cheap labour.
The question isn't will robotics and A.I. take over most jobs, the real question is what will we do with our time as I don't think it's a good idea for us to be idle, doing nothing, humans tend to need some kind of centre of gravity, a purpose and structure in life and work for all its fault does give a lot of people structure in life, you only have to look at people that retire or are unemployed for a long time to see that.
Personally, I think we're going to have to redefine the capitalist model, as the current one won't work, maybe we'll need a basic universal allowance for everyone, but I do think we'll need something to occupied our time, work isn't going to be it, maybe education could be it as we can always continue to learn new things throughout our lives.
On the plus side, it will allow us a lot more time to work on projects that we actually want to work on, a lot of us have interest and hobbies in many things but either don't have the time or skills to work on them, robotics and A.I. could assist us on that whiles freeing out time to work on things we actually want to work on, without the pressure on earning money for food and other basic things.
One thing I am sure off, I don't think most of us are aware of the massive changes that are on their way over the next few decades, maybe even sooner with how quickly A.I. is advancing and I get the feeling we are at the early 90's stage of computers but for A.I. which exploded through the 90's from a nerd thing to mainstream, I can't help but feel that A.I. is going through the same process now and if I'm right, we could be talking revolution level of progress over the next decade or so and I seriously hope we're ready for thing because I doubt most are or are even aware of what's coming.
