Great video , i'm from Atlanta and glad you enjoyed your quick visit. Old Hickory House is a great place and an Atlanta icon ! Come back anytime. Visit the Varsity in downtown , it doesnt dissapoint
I just miss the warmth and overall feel that was the 1970s and 1980s when it came to visiting good ol' family oriented restaurants as a kid back then. Lots of browns, oranges and wood used everywhere lol. Ah better times. Great video! 😎 #Scumbum
Do you think it could have been a BBQ pork steak in the original film? I got the sauciness and current pulled pork. Living in Germany (US Vet) grilled Schweinekammsteak maybe with the sauce? Maybe something I should try? We have great Semmel/rolls here too. Good dill pickles can be hard to find. Loved the video...
great video! an iconic movie and tv show about denim shorts. A friend used to live just north of "hazzard" and Ive been around that square a few times. I didnt relize there was still a hickory open, I'll need to make a trip. In my experience around se ga and ne fl a diablo is pulled, diced or sliced pork drenched in cayenne pepper sauce, some use the various red waters others make their own and some places even douse the bun
I've always felt like it was just a normal pulled pork or brisket sandwich, and Gleason just pretended it was hot. I know another RUclipsr said he found out through an inside connection that they made them in the movie catering truck for the scene.
Great video, I like how you maximzed your time in Georgia! This video gave me serious deja vu (I could swear I'd seen it before), after doing some searching I realized I had confused it with another video about The Diablo Sandwich. The screen shots from Smokey and the Bandit and parts about researching Old Hickory House are really similar. Here's the link to the other video if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/jOw7lHpb1ag/видео.html
He didn't seem to try the original. He suggested a jack daniels bbq sauce along with whatever hot sauce you want. The sauce in my video is a perfect clone of what they use at Old Hickory House. He did good research debunking the sloppy joe myth but he could have gone ALL the way. Good video though.

Awesome to see this video come together. Thanks Kyle!
Sooooooooooo great! We need more! Old school AIG right here, in the best way possible.

When I was a kid watching this on VHS I always assumed that they used a McDonald's hamburger for the scene because it looks so small.
They made these on the catering truck.
Diablo Sandwich Looks Like a Big Roast Beef Arby Sandwich.
Have to drink it with a Dr Pepper

Im suprised at the tomato based bbq sauce on pork in Ga.
Nice food forensics!
Someone needed to do a serious investigation. This is serious business! 😅
Yummers !
That's sandwich was based off what's in the movie. Which is like a sloppy joe. That's where it comes from so it is correct. I believe you are wrong.
Take a look at the screamer burger from Pennsylvania coal country. I think you might find it interesting.
Will do!
George Motz agrees
I actually ate at the truck stop that was in the movie and they actually had the sandwich an this isn’t the same thing.
I always thought it was just a Sloppy Joe. Idk.
Dr.Pepper is independent.
