    Great side-by-side demo. I personally like the sound of the Tonex. I hope it's not just because I have one. But the Tonex seemed warmer, more rich. Whereas the HX Stomp sounded more like it was going through a tin can. The difference is not super huge, but I could tell without looking at the screen on the last few strums.
    Thanks for the demo.

    Interesting...I much preferred the Tonex. A Tonex in the fx loop of a Stomp is probably a great combo.

  • @timhopkins3810
    @timhopkins3810 Год назад +5

    Really love my Tonex and stomp combination. I think the best thing with the Tonex is capturing your own amps and others that aren’t available in the other modellers. I’ve captured some of my orange amps and a few drive pedals which it does really well - it’s so close I’ve sold some of them off as they’re just not needed anymore 👍
    I’m surprised the Tonex is on a rental library though, there’s lots of issues with using the licenses so you can only pass it on once and then the pedal gets effectively bricked for any new users. It basically means whoever the third user is of that pedal (if not bought by you) won’t be able to connect to their computer

      @HeyWorshipLeader  Год назад +1

      That's god to know...I didn't hook it up and only used the stock Dumble preset

    -Kemper Stage for full signal chain.
    -ToneX for amp and cab, with HX Stomp for other effects, and MIDI controlling ToneX, Strymon Timeline, and Big Sky.
    -Walrus Audio Mayflower, Wampler Plexi Drive Deluxe, UAFX Del-Verb, Walrus Audio Slöer, UAFX Dream 65, Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo.
    I love them all and don't think anything is better sounding than the other, but each does have pros and cons.
    The last rig is my favorite at the moment. It's my most compact setup and is nice to not make song presets for everything and just dial up some tones quickly and play. But other times I like the reward of song presets for ease of song transitions primarily.

    Interesting shootout. I have HX Stomp, but new to it and haven’t really explored much. I don’t have any opinion. It sounds like they are both workable tones depending on context. Wondering if dialing in a setup with more low-mids on the HX would make it sound closer. I haven’t really tried but my understanding is that Dumble is not really the best pedal platform so it might take a little more work. For Dumble I would want to seek Lindley and Carlton tones - for me anyway. I have been eying the OS module for my Synergy system.

    Great video! I've been wanting to try ToneX for a bit now. I'm using a Kemper live most of the time but sometimes I'll run my Iridium. ToneX seems to sit somewhere in between those 2 in terms of features. I just need to bite the bullet and get one. Do you think you'll keep it or are you sticking with the HX?

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Год назад +2

      it's a good choice for sure...but I'm not keeping it. the HX stuff with their ease of Stereo path, extra effects, and FX Loop win it out for me. No one in the congregation will know. I heard Bradford from WT run his dual Tonex board this past weekend at a worship conference, and it sounded great...but I would have never known what he was using if I didn't already know. hope that helps

    Your shootout sort of misses the poi
    t of ToneX. The pedal is not making the sounds - the capture is. If you find a model on an HX Stomp that you love, you use it. If you don't love that model, you try another. if you don't like any of the models (pretty unlikely), then the HX Stomp is not for you. With ToneX, if you don't love the captures that come with it, you can download free captures that other users have uploaded. And if you still aren't happy you can purchase commercial captures from a variety of vendors. The supply of amps in the HX Stomp is dicatated by Line 6. The supply of amps in the ToneX is up to the public at large, so infinite (over time). Comparing a model of the Dumble on each pedal ignores the fact that if you aren't in love with the ToneX capture of the Dumble, you can always go looking for another Dumble capture, and another, until you find one that makes you happy.
    Of course, the ToneX is also intended to allow YOU to capture your own amps. I have not done this myself, and for now, don't plan to. I am quite happy letting others capture their amps and I will buy the ones I want/like.
    I have my ToneX in the fx loop of my HX Stomp. Typically, I use effects in teh HXS and the ToneX provides the amp. But, if I have a need for an amp that the HXS does really well, I can have a Stomp preset that doesn't have an fx loop block, thus ignoring the ToneX. Very flexible, and so far, I have found some great captures from 2 particular vendors (of course there are lots of others), and they were not expensive.
    I have just 2 complaints: (1) the ToneX is the app, which I run on a Mac, is very un-intuitive, hard to navigate, and lacks a bunch of features that I think would really improve things. But, having said that, its workable, and I do really like what I am getting out of the pedal. And (2) is that the captures run the gamut of output levels (from hardly audible to way too loud). Their capture process must be leaving too much to the user (a guess since I haven't done this myself). I wish the captures were a bit more consistant in their output levels.

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Год назад +1

      Agreed with all this....the point of the video began with an assumption that the Tonex has better quality amps...so my objective was to see how close I could get the HX Stomp to it. I haven't downloaded any other captures, but I agree with what you are saying....it has potentially endless options as more people upload their own amps.

  • @Tone4sunday
    @Tone4sunday Год назад +1

    .... one more thing... I've used this live now in a worship setting and everytime the sound guy asks where my amp is. Meaning, it sounds and feels like a real amp.... hey worship leader.... reach out to worship tutorials for their morgan ac20 tonex profile...i guarantee you'll keep it just for that!

      haha...yeah, it's good. But I won't buy one. I think no one would know on a Sunday morning and the ease of the stereo ins and outs and FX Loop of the Stomp, and the extra FX wins it for me

      See, I felt the opposite. Haha
      I felt like the line6 sounded better, both isolated and in the mix.
      It just sounded a lot more lively and clear to me.
      But someone else in the comments made a good point about it being more about that specific capture on the ToneX than the ToneX itself.

    This video just proves that context is king. The tonex is marginally better but, the stomp has so much value. Shore, you lose a little bit of tone quality, but, you gain a multitude of sound options.
    Say, I had everything I wanted effect-wise, absolutely go for the Tonex. But if you want ANY multi-effects… Stomp for sure.

    Tonex is a profiler and IR loader, meaning it's only as good as the profile you get..... that being said, the tech is way better than hx and sounds way way way better...more "information" coming through. Fyi, it beats kemper head to head so the hx stomp isn't even close especially with stock cabs
