one of the best demos ive seen on how to filet a crappie. made it look so easy and camera guy did a good job
Might I suggest - when cutting the fillet off of the fish, instead of cutting it completely off, leave it still attached just before cutting it from the tail end. Then when you slice the fillet off of the skin, you can use the body of the fish to hold onto it, instead of risking cutting your hand while holding the fillet.
He did that.

No… . he didn't ! Might want to watch it again !
Not saying this is the wrong way but I would never filet Crappie or Bass this way..I thought he was going to cut himself several times and for the beginners this is no way to teach them.just my opinion..
👍
Thank you for not blocking the view of your demonstration. 👍👍👍
Great video, I learned so much!!
Slow and steady and to the point
I’m excited to catch and cook my own crappie now!!! Thanks man!
Best demonstration of Crappie cleaning Iv’e seen. Thanks for taking the time and there effort.
That was a very clear demo. Many folks totally block the view of what they are doing as they "demonstrate", but you stayed out of your own way. I thought the advice about studying the skeleton of the fish was a great tip for Newbies. I filet my Crappie the same way, but I don't worry about removing the pin bones. They crunch up easily when the fried fish is eaten. Good job!
I ordered two of these based on the reviews. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqmKabisEv81ul5v7OhvVxxOpt2CJruI- Received them on time and they look good. I really like the handle on these knives as they feel good in my hand. I'm giving them 4 stars on look and feel, but have not had the chance to put them to the test yet. I mostly fish for catfish and can hopefully try them out in the next few days. If they hold an edge throughout a limit of catfish, they'll be worth another star.Update...I used the 9" strong and the 9" fillet on a mess of catfish. I did put a sharpening on these before I started. I want a razor edge to fillet fish but they weren't quite that sharp. The people who gave these knives crappy reviews and said they were sending them back was because they weren't razor sharp. So what, do they not have a knife sharpener?? Good grief! I mean you have to sharpen any knife from time to time.I personally like them and am pleased with them. If you're too lazy to sharpen a knife then hire someone to clean your fish lol.I've never bought a knife in my life that would shave hair right out of the box. Don't be afraid to purchase the knives. They're pretty nice in my opinion.
Nothing wasted......that's what I like to see.
I've never seen it done that way, but looks good. I'm hungry for some crappie and bluegill is just as good imo. Thank you for the demonstration
I’ve been filleting fish for over 25yrs and this is a very well done demonstration. 👏🏻👏🏻 BTW I love my Dexter Russell Knives. 👍👍
best job i have seen on u tube yet !
I couldn't believe that as cheap as this was, that it was so sharp! My husband fishes & this knife is a great help to him.
i've seen thousands of fish filleted in my life, and filleted hundreds myself, and these victor videos (i've watched crappie and tilapia) are truly superb. damn dude, well done. and it's obvious that if he wanted to fillet at lightning speed, he could. i bet if he can fillet this fast, he can catch them pretty quickly too. again, well done
Yea he definitely did a good job I was very impressed also
Nice job did about a dozen yesterday, with same knife. Done a lot of crappie and bluegill with that knife 🔪
Thank you this video was really helpful
Good job Victor
Great job dude
Damn you're a pro, you make it look so easy
Excellent. Thank. A week out till my 2023 Suntracker fishing barge is delivered. Honing skills.👍
Actually a great video
I just caught a near state record… will be a great filet👍🏼
wow thanks. i tried to fillet a few crappie i caught the other day. I used to just cook them up whole, but decided to try filleting them. it did not go well. Needed your tips! Especially how to get rid of those pin bones.
Awesome 👌
Great video thank you very much. You got skills brotha!! I would like to see a video by you on the best way to fillet a catfish!

Very helpful..
Good job

Don’t forget those tails love crappie tail chips
Very nice
Talk about enjoying the good life
Excellent!!! Please do white bass!
slick !
very well done
😋
I like this method better, because you don't waste all the belly meat like many people do.
You definitely got a lot of meat off the fish but here in Louisiana some of us enjoy eating the backbones, fins and tails. Fried that is. You can only bake or blacken the filets. I leave about 1/8th inch of meat on either side of the backbone. The kids eat the boneless filets and the adults the backbones. Of course we don't eat the bones but pick the meat out of them. The bones seem to flavor the meat and I'm sure increase the nutritional value. Try it sometime.
“How to filet”
Why go the trouble of going "over the rib cage" if you're going to remove the pin bones. Just cut your filet then remove rib cage and pin bones together.
Some people don’t remove the pin Jones
Why did you not do a crappie catch clean and cook on your channel
Don't cut the fillet off before you flip it and cut the skin off its a hell of a lot easier
Can you do the boiling water over the skin like a salmon?
I don’t call them pin bones I like to call the the Y bones
Same as filleting a freshwater drum.
Try an electric knife. I can clean a crappie or any panfish in 30 sec.
Bones? I take a bit more time and try to remove rib bones during filet process... Are you simply cooking them bone in?
There's no bones in these fillets. He's going over the ribs instead of through them. Little extra meat this way instead of cutting out the ribs after.
Bad name for a fish 💩-E 🤣
Everybody does different but I’d starve taking this long to clean 50 or 100 at time I use electric knife an do 3 to 5 fish a minute or so
That ain't no lie right there, I love my Berkley electric filet knife.
Do you do a one swip fillet if you do that Makes you waste some meat
@@ethanchou2225 no I fillet both sides not sure the question you asked but if I had to guess just this year in 2021 I’ve filleted 1,000 plus crappie with electric knife and plenty more to come they is not much for meat left when I fillet both sides
I can have three fish done before your done with one doing that way and the skin will be off mine and much safer as far as knife control goes
the guys i have watched use electric knives waste half the meat !
Why would anyone want to fillet a panfish eat it off the bone
My dad would beat my ass if I left that much meat on the fish, not even close to how I was taught.
I’m gonna call nonsense on that lil buddy.
Nonsense indeed
I'd rather spend an extra 30 seconds and fillet it correctly. All that belly meat wasted. SMH
Wrong! Do not cut the fillet completely off the fish leave it attached , flip it over then continue to cut the fillet off the skin.
Was great until he started promoting his fillet knife. lol you can buy a fillet knife at any field store.
The best way to fillet a crappie is Not to. Good Grief
Everyone on the internet knows better than someone else.
What a waste. So much belly meat wasted. SMH
So dont do it this way and keep your criticism to yourself.
