Hello! Excellent video! I was wondering, would it be possible to make a video about the various pricking irons that have very long and narrow teeth, such as those from Kevin Lee, BEAGLE, Jayme, and 4Z? This would be very helpful!! Thanks for the information videos and reviews!

Do the Wuta tools have any way of indicating whether they are m390 or Dc53, like the feng tools do? My concern is if you’re buying from a supplier rather than directly from Wuta is there any way to tell if you’ve actually got the tool you paid for or do you just have to hope you have an honest supplier

I find many times some of these bevelers scratch the leather if not held exactly so. Weaver’s beveler tip doesn’t allow that to happen but the price is too high.

In a comparison between Wuta and Ron’s Montana edgers, which do you think is the better tool for thin leather? Anybody tried both?

Hi. Thanks for the review! Could you compare Wuta Pro with Feng and Palo santo edgers? Especially the ones for thin leathers. I wanted to buy Palo santo, but a member of your leatherworking group had repeated problems with blades on palo santo ones cracking. Which kinda made me to change my mind. Cheers!

Where did you get this info? I would like to know as well, since I was considering some Palosanto edge bevelers/french edgers

@@EVILLASER Guy at the local fb group had 3 in a row cracked, prolly due to bad heat treatment. Anyway the manufacturer was quite forward and offered free blades to exchange (they can be easily detached) but asked the guy to pay for a shipping at first. After it happened repeatedly he got money back & free blades. So I didn't come to trash Palo Santo, just to ask whether the alternatives are on the same level.

@@ayasugihada Gotcha. Yeah, I was between Palosanto, Feng’s, and Ron’s for some edgers. I’ve tried getting in contact with Ron’s to learn about what materials they’re using, but I’ve not heard back yet. Assuming comparable materials (and of course quality), I’ll likely go with Ron’s, since shipping will be quicker for me. Sure wish I could get a cool lignum vitae handle, though...

@@EVILLASER I do fine leatherwork as a hobby and I prefer the long slender blade on Feng & Palo santo or Wuta pro. Also, I am based in the EU so it is actually easier to get the other ones I think. Armitage gave Ron's edgers big thumbs up so they should be among the best to get.

@@AlexanderMason1 you are wrong. Probably a tempering issue coupled with very thin material. In addition, I saw his palo santo pieces and wasn't all that impressed by the finish on the blades - uneven groove, not all that centered. I got Feng at the end. Great finish, but sadly has its issue as well. The groove on the back side it nonexistent near the cutting part. This means it is quite hard to keep it on the leather's edge without slipping. Pretty stupid mistake on a great piece of equipment.

The thing everyone missed out on is that harder steel may hold an edge “longer”, but what is the quality of the edge? You get an edge that still has a 50/50 sharp to dull. That means you’re using a fuller edge longer.
More importantly, how quickly can you sharpen the steel you are using. Fine made Japanese Blue Steel chisels are always “high carbon steel”. Never a harder high speed steel.
The Japanese Blue Steel sharpen much faster and produce a much sharper edge than any High Speed Tool Steel.
DC53 and HSS-M2 steel are both high speed steel.
You are also comparing bevelers that have different shaped blades. That will make a difference in how quickly the edge enters the leather, but the length of the tool affects control over the tool.

Just used your Amazon link to the Wuta bevelers, and was shocked to see that they were at $60. Too much money for an unestablished brand that has ripped me off in the past with junky tools at a slightly upmarket price!

Palosanto called, they want their design back 😂. In all seriousness, great review, very clear and concise, just wish Chinese companies had more integrity when it comes to copying designs.... It's an issue with most products made in China, not just this beveler.

The design isn't new and Palosanto definitely didn't come up with it first. Afaik Gomph (old and now defunct leather tool manufacturer from the USA) and Osborne has made similar looking edge bevelers and edgers before Palosanto was born. I'm not saying Palosanto are copycats, they've definitely put their own spin on the design, but this style of beveler has been around forever.
