Hii! Thanks for watching my video! We have to stay true to ourselves, and for me following me heart was the best way to find true happiness and fulfillment in life! Bless up!
I can truly empathize with your story, Nathalie. I share a similar sense of disconnection. I was born and raised in Kenya, East Africa, but had a very British upbringing. Years later, I found myself suddenly in Greece and struggled to adjust. Life on the streets, language barriers, and other challenges left me feeling traumatized. My family roots trace back to Greek-Italian generations from Alexandria, Egypt. Despite my heritage, I still grapple with feelings of displacement and unease. ❤ Christina
Hello Christina 👋🏾. Thank you for sharing your heartfelt story 💖. I am glad my story connects with you, and thank you for your empathy 🤗. Nice video, again! Growing up in Birmingham all we heard about was ' back home', 'back a yard'. It never once occurred to me that I was British until I was 17. I had my very first job in an ASDA store. The manager ( a Canadian bloke) asked what nationality I had and I said 'Jamaican'. He then said I needed a visa to work there. Then he asked if I born in the UK. I said yes and for the first time ever someone actually called me 'British'. It felt weird after literally growing up in a house/family that never once saw us as being 'English/British'. The closest we got to that was differentiating Jamaicans that were UK born or Jamaican born - but nothing more than that in terms of anything official. Now, I have been to Jamaica many, many times (countryside Clarendon). My family there and people in the neighbourhood accept me as being Jamaican, but later on in life when I started hitting the resorts on the north coast (I'm going again in Nov 2024 with my cousin) no one even for a second accepted I was Jamaican. In fact people there literally thought I was African! True story:- I almost got into a fight in a bar in Birmingham, UK because some Jamaican born guy thought I was African and should not be in a Jamaican place! It was only when I told him my family were from Clarendon, JA he backed off. He said, IF I had said Montego Bay, Ochi, Negril or some other tourist place he would have hit me. Well, trust me I would have hit him back! So, in short people of my generation consider ourselves as being Jamaican - but most Jamaicans on the island do not. This hurts, it really hurts because there isn't even 0.00001% of me that feels British and I do not want to be considered British. British to me is just the convenience of having a British passport - nothing else. Even here in the Netherlands I never refer to myself as British - just Jamaican.
Hello! Thank you-I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, and I hope others will feel the same way. I refer to myself as 'Black British' because that’s what I was told to tick on application forms. My fiancé later clarified that I’m actually English... but that’s a whole other story! When I was on the party scene, many Jamaicans would say they were from Kingston. I later found out that most who claim Kingston aren't really from there, but it’s seen as a tough place, so people want to associate with it. In hotels, I’m often treated as a foreigner once they hear my accent-before that, they assume I’m Jamaican, and the service changes completely when they realize I’m not. That’s another story too! It’s sad and disappointing that someone told you that you shouldn’t be in a Jamaican place because we all originate from Africa. It's a reminder of how little many of us know about our past, heritage, and culture. I’m sorry it hurt-I used to feel the same, but I’ve now found peace with who I am. It’s been a journey, but I’m good with it. Some people who don’t consider you Jamaican who on this island would love to have your British passport or be called British. For me, my UK passport is something I deeply appreciate, and I’ll continue to hold dual citizenship-I’m not giving up my UK passport! Thanks for sharing your story and being vulnerable. If you haven’t watched this video yet, I talk a bit about embracing the best of both cultures. I know you don't want to be considered British but being united in diversity is a precious and blessed space to be in! Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/ymtoHwrru9I/видео.htmlsi=1Tv_O2VOkMzzI86e
@@nataliesmithleadershiptalent Forgive me if I come across an an extreme case. I never refer to myself as 'Black British'. To do so would lump me into groups of people I have nothing at all in common with like people of Rwandan heritage, people of Somali heritage, Zimbabwe people who I incidentally love who also were born and raised in the UK. You will never find Somali people for example trying to identify with Caribbean culture and why should they? You should see me when I’m training or speaking at an event-too much vibes and jokes :-) Thank you for watching my video again and for sharing such an awesome story. Yep, SE London to Kent, a home county like Berkshire. Did you go to One Nation or Garage Nation? My favorite DJ is Brockie and MC Det. Heartless Crew and Pay As You Go for House and Garage. Heartless had the girls on lock, but Pay As You Go are lyrical geniuses... SELAH! Do you remember the venues Colosseum or Bagleys did you go? What about Sun City or La Cosa Nostra raves? How about Innovation, Helter Skelter, or Twice as Nice? Just throwing out a few AWESOME memories of growing up in the UK-I’d love to hear your thoughts. There’s so much more to say about the music scene, but those are what spring to mind right now! I’m glad to hear you moved to Jamaica and adapted well. For me, it was simple-you just choose to adapt or not. Thanks for the support; I’m going to weave in more personal stories and videos with my leadership and development topics. It’s a way for people to get to know me better, and I love taking a trip down memory lane-I didn’t realize I had so many memories! Ha ha ha! Maybe I should write a book? Fab, realistic experience. How you are embracing Jamaica is how it suited you. I believe you have to step out of ones box. I stayed in Jamaica 4 months and then another 6 months. Like you my accent, bumps up the price, I prefer where prices are on the items. Never a person who liked markets from a child. My mums brither, uncle R would say try talk patio. Umm I can not fake it. But if I am in my feeling, anf that is putting it lightly, well that is another story.😂😂. My father was very wary of me being taken to Jamaica by my mother because of the bad rap protrayed on telelievision. I encouraged and encourage the generation after us to expand their horizons. Things and times have changed and changing for worse. Having dual nationality is the way to go. Opportunties we worked towards are diffetent. Change is good, but it ahould be for the better. It easy for some people to put negativity in embracing new things in life. We should never let fear overtake us. It is scary to overthink. YOU took the plunge and living your best life. Great. Blessings to you in this chapter of your being.
Hii! 🙌🏽 Thanks for watching my video, stopping by to leave a comment, and for sharing your experience and insights! It’s funny how our accents can bump up the prices, right? I’m with you on preferring when prices are clearly marked, even in the supermarkets! I totally get it-speaking patois isn’t something that comes naturally to everyone. When I’m in my feelings or highly emotional, the patois comes out, but with an English accent! 😂 I agree, it’s important to encourage the next generation to expand their horizons and not let fear hold them back. My family and friends were shocked when I decided to move- their thoughts are you only move to Jamaica when you’re retired. While living in Jamaica, family and friends would often ask, “Did you get deported or are you an expat?” Like, is that the only reason we move to Jamaica? I wanted to change that narrative! Having dual nationality is definitely a blessing-it opens up so many opportunities. ✈️ I could travel quickly for work overseas, and the US is only 90 minutes away from Jamaica. Thank you for the kind words and blessings. 🙏🏽 I hope you stay tuned for more of my videos and continue to share your stories and insights! I just posted another video today called "Healthy Choices, Jamaican Style: My Kingston Market Adventure." ruclips.net/video/z7zafDx9q5I/видео.htmlsi=A059eXUOtlPVvsgr I’d love to hear what you think of it. Hello, another day to give God praise! I want to know what you had for breakfast because you're full of energy ❤😂. How much to rent in gated communities in Montego Bay, food, light, and water?🤔. Keep them coming 😊. Bless up!
Hiii. Thanks for watching my video and leaving a comment! Breakfast? Just my daily dose of sunshine and a side of positivity! PLUS! My daily fruit intakes prepared by Mala and of course a cup of tea! Renting in a gated community is reasonable if I compare it to the UK but perhaps others might not share the same insights. Food and Light I do think is very expensive and water for me has always been very reasonable even if I wash all my colours separately! Let's start conversation I would love to hear what everything else thinks! I will continue to create videos where I will talk about my personal journey, experiences and all things leadership and talent development stay tuned! Have an awesome Sunday and please share my video with others so they can see and feel my energy lol!

Hmmm, I’m not entirely sure, but it could be a reference to Annie Palmer, also known as the White Witch of Rose Hall 🧙🏾♀️. She was a notorious figure in Jamaican folklore believed to have practiced witchcraft, and her story is often told as part of Jamaica's rich history 🌴. Sweeeeeet! Thank you!
Yo u r so funny Nats u r giving nuff jokes😂 only true I share so many similarities in our demographic and growing up experiences. Being born in SW London and moving to Berkshire and being raised the black Jamaican community isn't that deep with numbers. Music wise I share similar experiences in tastes such as Jungle n Garage music with reggae samples and real reggae dancehall foundation . I've now been out living in Jamaica 4 a couple of years and have also adapted well, just like u I holiday out here n am familiar with certain tingz. I did plan moving to Jamaica as I have a plan which Jamaica is part of . Big up 4 ur videos n sharing ur experience in making the move 2 r parents birth place where we can have a more than decent life brrrrappp ##menahconfused
Looool, after reading your hashtag-I love it! I’m glad I’m giving you enough jokes; that’s just me!
Yep, more life on this Rock and no place else! Stay tuned for more content, and don’t forget to share this video with folks back in the UK. Let them know what they’re missing and just say, 'See, I told you!' Ha ha ha!

I agree, it’s important to encourage the next generation to expand their horizons and not let fear hold them back.

Natalie! What does it mean when you tell a Jamaican man his girlfriend's name is Annie Palmer?
Hmmm, I’m not entirely sure, but it could be a reference to Annie Palmer, also known as the White Witch of Rose Hall 🧙🏾♀️. She was a notorious figure in Jamaican folklore believed to have practiced witchcraft, and her story is often told as part of Jamaica's rich history 🌴. It might imply something mischievous or even that the person is crafty or dangerous! 😅
