I thought that as a child too. When I saw the commercial for the ride on tv, I thought it was a real roller coaster. My parents had to explain to me that it was a virtual ride.
Same I actually thought it was a roller coaster and I had to wait like 40 minutes to go on the ride but little shows of the Simpsons entertained me throughout the line but it just kept replaying the same shows every time so it eventually got boring.
I remember watching a load of POV videos of the ride when I was younger, and when I finally got to ride it in the summer of 2019 during a holiday in California, it kinda underwhelmed me. Probably because I enjoyed a lot of other rides there :/
It's actually a motion simulator, but not a moving ride unlike Spider-Man or Transformers, but still considered an amusement park ride due to its motion seats that tilt. It's kinda like Star Tours, but the vehicle is smaller and fits inside a movie theater.

It's real nice to hear the kids having fun, but to me the whole ride amounts to sitting in front of a tv. More effort needs to be made. I remember back in the day Disney World/Land had one of these virtual rides for Star Wars. The audience gets in (about 30), the windshield is a screen, and the whole thing can pitch and roll in all directions. That shit was completely immersive, it felt like you were actually flying in space, very intense and exciting. This is nowhere close.
