people in atlanta need to make sure these things happen. hold your government accountable when they take too long or overbudget the project. kansas city built their street car very quick, there is no excuse its taking this long
There is an orbital tram line planned here in Sofia, Bulgaria, which is pretty close to an old orbital railroad too. But ironically it doesn't share any of the space of the old raildroad because it just makes no sense in terms of intermodality: the old railroad right-of-way doesn't pass through any of the metro stations.
So just want to confirm, as another Atlanta resident, is that the Beltline tram is going to go ALL AROUND the entire beltline? I thought I have heard mixed things about this. Im pumped for it if it is! Is there any information on if Amtrak is planning on building a new station for their Atlanta SE Hub? love your videos!
Ah, the nightmarish road to a new passenger terminal in Atlanta after the destruction of Terminal Station and Union Station. When I caught the Crescent the day before Thanksgiving 200 people were squeezed into Peachtree Station waiting to board.
IKR!!! Thanks you!!! That station is WAY too small! You’re telling me 1 train is scheduled and all of a sudden the station is packed? Amtrak definitely needs to sort that out.
MARTA Metro would be nice, but maybe a little overkill. I don’t mind overkill though. The original plan called for LRT, which I was fine with but now we’re hitting streetcar territory so ehh, not sure if they’re building the right capacity.
@@banksrail Thing is you don't have to build stations for 6 car trains. 2-3 car sets would be fine, with room to expand them if need be. The cost difference between it and light rail would be pretty insignificant given that a large portion of the corridor is already grade separated.
I don't think I've ever seen a belt/circle line in North America (maybe Mex DF), I hope to god transit planners will see how useful this project would be once it's completed and start building more radial lines, Chicago could really use it, NYC NEEDS to keep BX in the plans for the IBX or else it'll just turn out to be an alternative to the G train
I'm confused, there's a dedicated right of way directly adjacent to housing and business, already graded to heavy rail standards, and they want to put a streetcar in it? Why not put a true regional rail or metro line in there? I must be missing something.
The master’s thesis the belt line is based off of includes light rail( faster than streetcar). The RoW is not enough for big stations. It’s also kind of a small area for regional rail bc the beltline is completely with Atlanta city limits.
@@banksrail I was one of the initial meetings for Atlanta Beltline. Transit was supposed to be a part of this. In subsequent years after the planning, many moved into the area without thinking about the transit plan. Another problem in MARTA changing plans for budget solutions as a few BRT lines were originally meant to be rail. Lack of state transit funding in Georgia is another problem. Amtrak also faces this issue in the south.

It’s the state that’s mostly to blame
The funding structure for MARTA *is* weird, but in this case, MARTA’s decision making is the problem.

Yup. That’s the same problem the Beltline is running into.

The plans include a cirrmcular street car and crisscrossing lines east to west and north to south
It’s all around the Beltline, but the project is foolishly being done in tiny phases that take years to complete. I’ll explain more in a later video.
please do thanks, love the videos@@banksrail

Build new MARTA lines via the belt line
This is strange. I was just looking up things about the beltline. I suppose stumbling upon your channel was meant to be can't wait for part two.
Welcome aboard!😁
Nice video.👍
Can’t wait for the next one
Thanks 🙏🏾
Great start to another series Banks! Looking forward to more episodes!
Thanks 🙏🏾
cool ass channel, can't wait to watch the rest of these.
Thanks 🙏🏾
This should've been a Marta metro line but of course with Atlanta being Atlanta they can't even build a streetcar line.
USA is a very pathetic country

Yup, now we just need Atlanta to build the dang thing!
@@banksrail It seems like the same type of astroturf groups that were involved in killing Nashville's plan are trying to derail Beltline rail.
This reminds me of the Hodiamont tracks in St. Louis! Would love to see you cover that “rails to trails” terrible plan soon too. 😁
Great suggestion! Yeah rail trails are starting to become a problem.
Love this episode and exited for your new series!
Thanks 🙏🏾😁
we need that beltline...marta feels like its missing something
100% Shub!
Love your channel. Keep bringing it.
Thanks 🙏🏾😁
1:38 Sherman, do it again
I have to admit that the airplane footage is confusing to me.
It’s just in the background so lower attention span individuals stay interested.
Fingers crossed🤞for the lightrail

What's the name of the game in the background pretty plz
Cities Skylines, either 1 or 2

Transport Fever 2
@@chickennuggetcentral576 yeah this was my guess even though i haven't actually played it
Transport Fever 2! Mr. Chickennuggetcentral576 was correct!
Who's going to apy for all of this?
People part of MARTA counties

The corridor kinda got nurfed once they added the Beltline trail. There’s just not enough space for them both.
Real
BLACK. TRANSIT. POWER.
💪🏾
Individuals, should furnish their own transportation, and not expect taxpayers who choose to drive pay for theirs.
And how do you think roads are funded? EVERYONE PAYS. It's a public service.
@@banksrail Funds are funded through the fuel taxes collected. Everyone who uses the beltline should furnish their own transit.
Can't wait for them to do something idiotic like battery powered mini-streetcars
If they do that when they already have a normal overhead catenary powered streetcar, Ima lose it.

The reconstruction era should have banned all rails being built further or repaired in the south.
