It is my opinion for all parts concerned, anytime my car is not being used, I store it inside only. Additionally, I store the car with the rear hatch fully open, this takes the load off the hinges, hatch assembly and the struts, it works great, after installing new rubber seal surround for hatch, all I have to do is click my hatch open switch and my hatch pops open 9 out of 10 times. I made a custom fitted cover for it, to allow it to be fully open and covered at the same time. I leave the hood open for the same reason.
Thanks I’m getting my 84 berlinetta back on the road after 25 years was my dads all factory she still runs great no fuel carb issues but need small things like breaks cleaned gone over or replaced it still stops fine it needs the digital ac controls fixed not working I’m trying to keep it stock since it was low production low mile and rust free Do you agree to keep it factory it has the common gm paint loss I do have it ready for paint it didn’t even have a ding in it
WARNING! recently, there have been a LOT of people installing the hawks hinges and getting EXPLODED hatch glass instead. I can't say if it's user error or maybe a post Co*vid crappy quality CNC error, but be careful!
Do you think that small gasket you made is helping to prevent the hatch from shattering? I agree, I’ve heard a lot of people saying their hatch glass shattered lately but I doubt many people thought to put a small gasket like yours . Trying to see if it’s worth the risk of fixing or not
I have seen on the forms that some people pop their hatch glass after installing the hawks hinges. I wonder if it is a design problem or improper installation.
This channel is so helpful to new 3rd gen owners like myself. 👍🏼
Thanks for this! I'm restoring my 3rd gen camaro and had completely missed getting this part. Keep up the great work!
Wow! I can't believe the production quality of this video for such a (currently) small channel.
Very well done!
How is it possible that the video I needed is only 5 hours old !!!! 89 firebird formula 350....

Looks like a easy job. Didn't know that the rear hatch glass is rare
Is it?
@@chrisleaver3319 it seems
It's hard to find hatch glass, but I believe people make new ones now.
Eagerly waiting for the engine bay paint video!
Yeah I have 91 and just removed the hinges and flatten out the bow in a vise seemed to be working
You never mentioned the thru-glass bolts torque setting. Very important if you don’t want to break glass. (FYI it’s 11ft lbs or 124 inch lbs)

Nice! Looks great!

you have to loosely install the hinges first then see how everything lines up.
if the glass popped on the 1st go, obviously something was binding.
Is there usually a spacer between the hinge and body connection point
ya, the spacer is the gasket.
where did you get the Hatch hinges Gasket ?
it was just 1/8in gasket rubber from a hardware store.
Any links for that gasket material?
no idea, I had it in my garage. it's 1/8in thick.
Not worth the chance of breaking it
There is a chance of it breaking with old bent hinges lol.
