I'm leaning towards just a quick guide at the end probably being the best solution but I'm open to suggestions

That build looks so fun to play, used to play bow/spear in S1 but returned to the game now and i´ve been playing Heavy Tank but i miss the more agressive side and chase (javelin and Axe throw are so cool) like your doing in this clip, so ima gonna try your build! You earn a subscriber 💪

nope, just adapting to the meta. firestaffs are trying to be slick and converting half their damage to another element like bows and muskets typically do, boltcaster is still somewhat prevalent, and seeing a lot more vg's and abyss lately. just seems like the right move. still 20% thrust for bows and muskets tho
I was actually talking to somebody offline about a spear/lifestaff build haha gianttvcontroller used to make vids with that combo way before artifacts were a thing, you could actually make a much stronger version of his monk build now with attuned pants and vengeance

no, if you want to be impossible to kill you just play heavy sword n shield / hatchet haha but this is the best way to have a lot of survivability and still be able to catch people and actually get kills in my opinion
Ever tried blooddrinker with serenity? Had an idea with it as defense stance gs is pretty tanky and the right tree bottom passive gives lifesteal as well
yeah that was actually the first thing I tried when I was thinking of ways to overcome the damage loss haha it definitely still hits like a truck I just don't enjoy the greatsword playstyle since they slowed down the heavy attacks. feels kinda clunky
the perk you're thinking of is called "contagious reverse stab". penetrating backstab can be put on a sword, hatchet, spear, rapier, or flail. super strong against heavy armor players. no worries though brother it's a lot to learn, feel free to throw any questions in here you'd like and I'll help you out if I can. but you should definitely also check out the new world database website, super helpful when you want to look something up. they're not affiliated with new world but they pull their info straight from the game data itself
so i tried this build. I have never played hatchet. For some reason i would die immediately. I thought that hatchet allowed you not to die. Am I doing something wrong or missing something?
well if you run the defy death passive on the left side it only makes you invulnerable for half a second and gives you a small bit of health back. the real things that's keep me alive against multiple are just blooddrinker being very strong and a lot of limit testing. I mentally keep track of which debuffs everyone has on them throughout the fight, like if get hit by a rend and a disease I know I can't win that trade anymore so ill run til it wears off then go back in. you also want to watch everyone's healthbars, if you're both dropping at the same pace you know you can stay and win with all the lifesteal you have. and generally just ignore heavy players, they can't catch you but heavy is still too strong at the moment to out trade most people
does the knee guard also reduce ranged magic? the way I read it is its physical ranged like physical aversion. Am I wrong? if so I might try the knee guards
they're not worth using right now sadly, they do reduce all ranged damage but it's a base damage modifier that is reduced, not a flat real 13%. if you're light armor, featherweight still gives more dmg reduction and works against melee so it's just better in every way. if you're heavy, void darkplate mitigates wayyy more damage since it's actually a heavy piece and again, works against all damage. and tumbler feetwraps are still just bis for most medium builds since the 25% fortify is more dmg reduction and that's without even considering the extra healing and empower.. trust me I so badly want them to be strong to counter the ranged meta but they're a waste of your artifact spot at the moment
@PJsurely that's so lame. Ty for the info! Hopefully they get a buff. I hate running featherweight especially having a flail shield so I use tumbler boots atm wish round shields didn't add weight :'( I run light equip so shields make everything suck
absolutely brother no worries. but not even trolling, try flail without the shield. it's surprisingly good and let's you use normal armor loadouts. it's kinda nice that shields don't have attribute points anymore so u can mess with stuff like that

ay thank you so much my man 🤝 it definitely makes fighting in the clumps more enjoyable not having to rely on anybody else. I actually tried going more strength and less dex but the spear hits harder with this split and the way I try to play the hatchet getting the 200 dex 10% backstab is actually pretty strong so I think I'd stick with this even if magnify let me put the points where I wanted it'd only be like 215str200dex200con
you can still use basically all the same armor and jewelry perks, it just wouldn't be as strong. I would play the spear completely differently without the artifact though since normal javelin is kinda useless. I have some old build guides for my normal spear build with perforate sweep and cyclone if that sounds like your playstyle. but if you're trying to just make a strong build and don't have the best gear yet I would say playing heavy armor with sword n shield + hatchet or spear is a very good starter build. makes it easy to learn since you're hard to kill and can still do pretty good damage. the video with "solo anything pve" on the thumbnail has a guide for that, I'd skip to that part

appreciate that my man. still kinda doing trial and error seeing what people actually enjoy watching the most, this seems to be the most well received so far so I'll probably just keep doing videos like this for now haha but as far as the lifestealing on the hatchet, I tried that originally and it's good for pve but with pvp at a certain point it's just better to have the additional damage or the slow, playing medium double melee makes it pretty hard to stick to light players as it is so you have to have enough on the hatchet to blow them up when you do catch them. the spear I mostly use for the utility and some burst damage so pen backstab with the javelin rend makes heavy players armor pretty useless if I catch them at the right moment u can damn near 1 shot them

thank you brother 🤝 just my opinion but I think crit chance is way too important for spear to pass up and sns has a very high crit dmg multiplier so you'd likely add more dmg just by critting more often than you would by having longer bleeds on whirling blade and keenly jagged since skewer is already maxed out just by running butcher and 150dex. crit on spear also gives stam back and extends all debuffs
like I was saying in the video, you have to take all the passives and part of an ability you're not actually using to have enough points into that side to be able to choose exploited weakness on the bottom right
-25% base damage, it's a modifier not an actual flat reduction to your damage. did a video a while back showing it's actually only like 14% less damage even without any perks or passives active. with hatchet you can exceed the base damage modifier cap by enough that it actually doesn't reduce any damage, just bring you back down near the cap.
I'm also for the idea that Blooddrinker is too good not to be used as a solo player. Currently playing Butcher with spear on a medium setup. Its good in PVE and PVP at the same time, I don't change anything. I'm just waiting for the new season to come for the magnify changes. And I was thinking about the new heavy legs as an artifact. Since I don't do only PVP. I'm trying to get a build done ready for PVE and some PVP on the side in opr.

keen is best for most builds in my opinion, unless you're playing blunderbuss, hammer, or flail. everything else has a high enough crit dmg modifier that it's the biggest damage difference you can get, most weapons also get other benefits from crit like sword getting free haste or spear extending debuffs and giving stamina back. there's a reason they nerfed crit chance so hard during expansion, it's pretty valuable haha

no worries brother, hope it helps. are you thinking for a solo pve open world build or for mutations? freedom doesn't get much value in pve, I'd stack refreshing personally but health is good if you're dying more than you'd like. with the season 5 update so close I'd probably hold off on spending a bunch of resources until you can try the new artifacts and see which way you want to go then work on your bis build would be my thought process

hey I respect the grind haha it's a lot to learn, just be a little cautious going back too far, every time they make any balance adjustments it really affects what was strong then vs what's strong right now.
i play basicaly this exact build lol. and yeah, for a solo pvper blooddrinker is great. its that most of time, better players start doing wars and/or running with groups/friends/pocket healer etc.. there blooddrinker is strupid. but for solo play, on any high damage build, its awesome
I wonder what the gameplay looks like not in the forest, but in a mass fight in an outpost... It’s easy to kill ordinary players with BIS clothes and weapons for 200-400k
I've literally posted full outpost matches you npc.. and tried videos that were mostly clump fights. they never do as well as just highlights like these so I can only assume this is what most people prefer watching. I'm top kills on my team almost every game and that's with me actually playing the objective. ay ggs nt tho.

It would be very interesting to see how you fight with such things, for example, with the BIS musket or the Spartan from the popular build on RUclips) Maybe you could release such a video? so almost everything I'm using is either named, an artifact, or identical to a named item, but you think it's just the gear. nobody I fight has close to 700 gs. no skill difference, no knowledge of the game when to use which abilities, not the strength of the way I've combined everything, just simply my gs is higher... go watch any of my old "off-meta build" videos where I carry arena matches with nonsense weapons nobody was using at the time if you want to see another build. I don't play bow or musket, I have videos of heavy sns/Hatchet already. I did clump fight videos, I did disruptor build videos, people respond to these the most positively. I'm not going to change what's working for my channel simply because you think im dunking on bad players. try understanding why it's so strong. have a great Air Force day.

I'm actually loving this build! LOVED hatchet when the game first came out and spear is my fav weapon in the game.

I thought the back stab perk on equipment was linked to the backstab skill for SnS. I’m new though so I just assumed

i like how it’s flows better with the pve mobs around (i absolutely lose my mind that pve is in pvp)
yeah having berserk up is kinda nice to ignore the mob staggers and just focus on actually pvp'ing in our only pvp game mode (that people q for) haha

i play basicaly this exact build lol. and yeah, for a solo pvper blooddrinker is great. its that most of time, better players start doing wars and/or running with groups/friends/pocket healer etc.. there blooddrinker is strupid. but for solo play, on any high damage build, its awesome
good thing I have zero interest in wars and always play solo lol
I wonder what the gameplay looks like not in the forest, but in a mass fight in an outpost... It’s easy to kill ordinary players with BIS clothes and weapons for 200-400k
I've literally posted full outpost matches you npc.. and tried videos that were mostly clump fights. they never do as well as just highlights like these so I can only assume this is what most people prefer watching. I'm top kills on my team almost every game and that's with me actually playing the objective. ay ggs nt tho.
@@PJsurely Bro, the footage clearly shows that you are stronger than them simply because of your clothes. In every outpost there are BIS players like you. It would be very interesting to see how you fight with such things, for example, with the BIS musket or the Spartan from the popular build on RUclips) Maybe you could release such a video? This will perfectly show your build, even if you lose.
so almost everything I'm using is either named, an artifact, or identical to a named item, but you think it's just the gear. nobody I fight has close to 700 gs. no skill difference, no knowledge of the game when to use which abilities, not the strength of the way I've combined everything, just simply my gs is higher... go watch any of my old "off-meta build" videos where I carry arena matches with nonsense weapons nobody was using at the time if you want to see another build. I don't play bow or musket, I have videos of heavy sns/Hatchet already. I did clump fight videos, I did disruptor build videos, people respond to these the most positively. I'm not going to change what's working for my channel simply because you think im dunking on bad players. try understanding why it's so strong. have a great Air Force day.
