I liked that you kept your grandfathers initials on the handle.

You did a great job restoring your family saw. I do wonder why you didn't finish removing the rust? The part you did looks outstanding. I'm also surprised you didn't put some wood filler to fill in the wood cracking and then stain the wood? I was also waiting for you to use the saw after sharpening it. Oh well, looks great for a display piece!

To be honest, I got tired of sanding! Rust convertor kills the rust and it was hidden by the handle. I was going to test it but i didnt want to ruin the finish .

Excellent job. Never seen that glue covering on the wood.

Ideally it should have more water mixed in and left to soak - I didn't want this one to soak up and expand

So my nephew and I looooooooove trains, so we hike on abandoned tracks all the time. We usually get a spike or two for a souvenir..... I watched your video a few months ago about your log splitter and the 'blacksmith' coating with linseed oil and heat. I have been planning to do it with his RR spike. THANKS for the inspiration!

I liked the video, I enjoy watching old tools being brought back into working order, although this is going to be a trophy more than a tool. Do you know what the third hole in the handle was for, and why didn't you trim the teeth to match for the length of the blade? Thanks for sharing. 👍😁🇨🇱🇺🇸

No idea what the third hole originally was for 🤷🏻‍♂️

Would a wax of some sort, like a bees wax protect it more from drying out? Would it discolor the wood?

    • @FixitRestoreit
      @FixitRestoreit  3 года назад +1

Absolutely, especially if it was heated up, the wood would soak it up 😎

      Shouldn't affect the original color

    Just a couple things.
The ATF combination will always stain wood beyond help.
Not sure why you left the last couple inches of the blade rusty.
& 3rd why didn't you show more off the sharpening?

1, didn't think about it till I put it on
2, tired of sanding and rust converter works great
3, edited out to reduce time of video

You were using some pretty rusty tools to fix or to restore a rusty tool doesn’t it seem ironic. LOL
