Try deep frying a hot pocket it will blow your mind! Learned this in college we deep fried everything.... don't deep fry a poptart they soak up the oil and turn nasty.
You need to review the breakfast hot pockets. They are actually pretty good.
Hot Pockets were better a long time ago when they were made by a company called Chef America, before Nestle took over and ruined the outer crust. The filling amounts got skimpier too.
You got that right, went from the pointed end flaky good crust to the cookie cutter bland crust but hey I still like them.
I never liked supermarket hot pockets, they got the bland crust. Buy them at sams club or costco for their garlic butter crust like the digiornos ones in this video, way better. They only sell pepperoni or 3 meat hot pockets at warehouse markets.

Mary Mitchell I guess I should count myself lucky I had the chicken cheese broccoli. There was a lot of cheese there with a small amount of meat and even smaller broccoli. The cheese was nice the chicken was surprisingly good, and broccoli it broccoli.
@@decodedillusion I'd throw in that I've seen a number of people point out that the turning point was when Nestle bought the company that made them prior. I seem to remember when the quality of them went down around that time.

@@jayjay86443 It probably has something to do why some folks can't (or at least joke about) consume Taco Bell items or chili. My guess is somewhat balanced diet crashing with an intense amount of sodium in one go. Diluting it with 'real' food would be best after all. Ask a college student living off Ramen noodles with a stressful job and workload. Every bowel movement is guaranteed all liquid.
I know, the meatball and mozzarella ones are the worst, not enough meatball and the cheese doesn't look exactly like the box.

Yeah, I think some frozen foods are not exactly as how they appear and taste. This is why I don't buy Hot Pockets and the entrees from Banquet anymore. They reminds me of elementary cafeteria food, a web of lies.

Hot Pockets have been terrible for years. I remember when I was a kid (back when Hot pockets first came out), Hot Pockets were filled with real cheese and delicious tomato sauce. Also, the pepperoni was very tasty. Over the years, the quality of Hot Pockets went down tremendously. I agree with you Mr. Wolfepit. Hot pockets are crap now. It's a shame that a lot of my favorite foods since childhood have deteriorated in quality.😞

Fun fact, cutting these lava pockets at an angle inherently helps them cool faster by increasing the surface area of the nuclear reactor to the air. Also, was really hoping for higher praise for the Digiorno stuff, not much stuff of theirs I don't like, but haven't been able to find any to try. Cheers to Wolfe for doing the dirty work.

Anytime a company can cut corners and still sell the same amount they will.They used to only sell them in boxes of two when I was young and they were a treat because they were kinda pricey.Now they sell them in big boxes and people eat them as meals because it’s now cheap.Its just the way it is🤷🏽♂️

I concur with your assessment of today's Hotpockets. They sadly suck sewer water these days but it wasn't always so. Hot pockets used to be really good nuke food when they came out in the 80s and I ate a lot of them . I liked the Ham &Cheese, Chicken &Broccoli, and the pepperoni pizza ones. They were a cheap, filling lunch or supper depending on the shift I was on when I didn't have leftovers to take. After a decade of so, sometime around 2000 something happened that negatively affected them and they began going downhill fast. The bread changed and over the years the ham cheese and the broccoli & cheese became basically cheese sauce " Lava pockets" , you described the pepperoni ones yourself. . Nostalgia and boredom drove me insane one shopping day 3-4 months ago into foolishly buying a box of the ham and cheese ones, my favs in the ancient days.. The first time in 10 years probably and they were just as bad as I recalled them being when I quit buying them so long ago. Basically all cheese sauce with one thin 4x1 inch piece of "ham" hidden in the lava.
I’d recommend wiping the knife clean before cutting into the second item. That way you won’t get the sauce from the pocket on the pseudo stromboli.
With the hot pockets, I usually squish all the filling down to one half of the bread and tear the top off, leaving alot of filling without all the excess bread. I'd reccomend it that way.

Thanks, Larry. I've been using slices of Italian bread, jarred sauce, and hand sliced moz/pepperoni to fulfill this craving for years but was considering getting some hot pockets on my next trip. Now I know better.
Make your own with crescent rolls, pepperoni, mozzarella and pizza sauce. Easy to do. Lots of recipes for it on YT. Great review again! Thanks!

Why I don't eat Hot Pockets:. Years ago, my family had a cat that was CRAZY for chicken. She would try to climb into the fridge if she knew there was a chicken in there. So one day I was eating a chicken, broccoli and cheese Hot Pocket and decided to give her a piece of the chicken from it. She took one sniff and HISSED at it! I figured it was a good idea to take her advice and not eat that anymore.
Back in the 1980's, Hot Pockets were actually semi-edible. However, at some point in the past, they got smaller, much lower quality and gross tasting. I can't eat one now, because it will literally make me very sick.

2 slices toast, sauce, cheese, pepperoni slices, microwave 30 seconds or better yet bake for a few minutes til cheese melts. Our school called them "pizza bobs"and they are still a favorite.

Pot Pocket instructions
Heat oven to 350.
Put Hot Pocket on baking sheet.
Cook in oven for 20 minutes.
Take out of oven and cool for 5 minutes.
Throw directly into toilet and flush.

For anyone who doesn't know, those digiorno Stromboli's are the business (mind you, I'm not a fan of their pizza). Those 'bolis are everything you wish a Hot Pocket could be.

I always have hot pockets in my freezer, and I eat them as what some people say weirdly because there is always a bunch of crumbs from the bread, but I always tell them it’s because there is not a lot of filling.
I used to love pepperoni, but it no longer loves me…so, to avoid taking 10 stomach meds, I stay away from it, lol. Hot Pockets and their competitors never appealed to me. But, I do remember loving the Totino’s Pizza Bites when I was a kid, comfort food, it was good.
That thing had way more filling more filling than the whole hot pocket then I half of it that’s pretty sad I don’t care much for hot pockets anymore I get them for a quick lazy piece of something to put in my gut but that’s about it I love these videos I hope you don’t ever stop doing them and I hope things are finding you well

a diagonal cut displays more of the inside of a hot pocket, also better for cooking as well as easier to cut causing less damage to the actually doughey pocket.
Pepperoni hot pockets are one of those foods you eat for the idea rather than the actual article you're holding...
A lot of the love for trash foods like hot pockets really just comes down to nostalgia. Nobody likes it because it's gourmet, delicious, quality food. We like it because it was a treat we got growing up. Same goes for pizza rolls. They just aren't great, but I love the little ritual that I have when it comes to making them. They're always better in the oven but if you just get your broiler going while you throw them in the microwave, you can throw them in the oven for an extra 30 seconds so they get all crispy. Then you nibble at the very edge and get one end open so you can cool off the lava insides. Eat it with a little hot sauce... It's like I'm back in middle school lol.
Hey, it's your thoughts on the hot pockets. Being Canadian, we have a Canadian version of them called Stouffers Bistro Crustini. They're like Hot Pockets, and boy, are they good. Pepperoni pizza one's my favourite. they also have them in philly steak and cheese, meatballs and mozzarella, turkey bacon club, chicken alfredo, chicken parmesan, Italian 5-cheese, and barbecue chicken. If you ever visit Canada, I recommend you try the turkey bacon club Bistro Crustini first.
The costco pepperoni hot pockets are so much better and more value. They are stuffed with filling and MEAT and you get 17 per box which is good for the price.
These are so easy to make at home and much better freeze for later use about 50 cents each for lots of better ingredients

Ive noticed the smaller packs of hot pockets seem to have less ffilling, when i buy the larger packs like the ham and cheese it has a lot more filling...im not sure, maybe they have a larger profit on the smaller packs

I like the pepperoni in the hot pockets. It's the only reason I buy them, and to kick a pizza craving which really is just a greasy pepperoni craving.
Wal-Mart's great value hot pocket knock offs are a bit better than the regular hot pockets but they only come in pepperoni...they are only about 1.60 too though so I don't mind as much that they're not super filling.
That seems kinda weird. They're both made by Nestle. Why would they try to compete with themselves?
They buy all the competition then reduce the quality to boost profits on both.

Nestle' has won the award " least value for a dollar ". In the early '60s they were considered products of fair value but that went the way of the Studebaker. All of the old food companies have been sold to the conglomerates that worship the profit line above all else.

Try the ham and cheese hotpockets. The cubed kind though. The one with the sliced looking ham is nasty.
Occasionally I'll buy a hot pocket to microwave at lunch but I'm going to eat both of them; a co-worker had an excess of the digorno stromboli and offered me one. While maybe not fully satiated one was enough so that cuts it's cost in 1/2 for me when budgeting for lunch meals. Old fart that I am I may have a bad tooth occasionally so for either of them when microwaving I have to cut the cooking time down by 30 Seconds or so to avoid having a lot of hard spots on the crusts. FWIW tomorrow's lunch is Banquet Buffalo chicken mac & cheese.. hey don't judge me; my wife likes the Nashville chicken and the country fried chicken and the store had buy 2 get 1 free so I added it for my lunch. Not going to add my usual healthy dash of sea salt after seeing the earlier video on the buffalo sodium content though.
As far as the hot pockets go, I prefer the ham and cheese ones.

I love Hot Pockets and I totally agree with you. They seem to have fallen by the wayside in terms of quality. I remember a time when they were much better.
I'm going to have to try baking them in the oven sometime, that did look pretty good.
The pepperoni ones were always low quality garbage though.
If you want a good one you have to get the four cheese.
