Shimotakaido is accessed by two lines, the Keio Line and the Setagaya Line, and is a shopping district that stretches east and west of the station, as well as a student town where schools from universities to elementary schools are gathered.It is convenient for transportation to the city center, and offers a diverse lifestyle for both children and adults. This is a residential area that fits your style.
In March 2024, the Shimotakaido Ekimae Market, a symbol of the city located in front of the station, will be closed due to redevelopment of the area around the station. The retro Showa-era building built in 1956 will close together with the closed railroad crossing and railroad tracks, and the atmosphere in front of the station will change dramatically.
The streetscape is home to a variety of shops, from long-established stores such as butchers, greengrocers, taiyaki shops, and soba shops to stylish bars and bakeries that cater mainly to young people.
The street between Shimotakaido Station and Matsubara Station on the Setagaya Line is often used as a filming location for various dramas and commercials, and you can often see celebrities strolling through it.

今から40年前、広島から上京して大学生活を赤堤で過ごしました。あの頃から随分変わりました。そのときにあったお店は殆どなくなってました。市場の通りの奥にあってよく通ったパチンコ屋もなくなってました。時代の流れを感じた。還暦を過ぎてあの頃に戻りたいと思うこの頃です。市場もなくなるそうで、昭和がどんどん消えていくんですね。
