  • Welcome back to our cottage garden, it's finally time to collect the fruit in our orchard, so we thought we would show you how things have grown this year. It's been a good year for the orchard, which makes up for some of the battles elsewhere in the garden and vegetable plot.

I have a dim memory when I was a child, how my grandparents had us wrap our apples individually in newspaper and put them in a box in the basement. This avoided any bad apples from causing others to rot. There must be something scientific about this, but not quite sure. It was so long ago. We had 5 apple trees.

That’s a great idea. I need to try and get some newspaper and give that a try

I just found your video. My parents grew up on a farm and in Florida we had all sorts of fruit and veggies to eat, really good memories. Thanks for sharing.

Dehydrated apple rings and apple chutney are a good idea. I made some spiced apple and pear cordial this year , but I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure how successful it was

Lovely video Mona. I've been enjoying your channel and I will definitely tune in for bulb planting. I have gotten myself about 130 bulbs to put in this fall and can use all the tips I can get.

This brought back so many memories of my childhood in England. We had 2 fully grown eating apples trees and 1 of cooking apples, never a dull moment for a child picking them when hungry hahaha. Mum used to make many apple pies, and she would also can apple pureé to accompany the Sunday roast pork....I wish I had a garden like yours, I'd love to make my own cider, do you have a recipe you could share? Btw, your dogs are lovely 🥰❤

pruning stimulates growth in plants, so it might be a better idea to prune *just* before spring. You don't want to stress the trees unnecessarily.

Lovely video. But when you pick apple twist it slightly then pull.
In the video you have taken alot of spurs off the tree. Try an avoid that. Doesn't help tree

One of my favorite fall recipes is pork tenderloin with onions, garlic, apples, fresh cranberries, and chicken stock in the crock pot.

It is really helpful to tell the varieties of the trees you are harvesting, it looks like a bosq pear, what are the apple varieties?

I love sharing my extra citrus from our trees with our neighbours. I’d really love to find some low chill apples and pears that will cope with Sydney’s weather, which I’ve heard is possible.

I was just thinking about your garden today, was flicking through the phone to see where I went this time last year and came across your gorgeous cottage and the duckies 🥰 Can’t believe that was a year ago already! The garden is looking lovely, unlike mine 😂 SO much work… you do such an amazing job with yours! Xx

Really great harvest. My mother in law use to make the best apple butter, she cooked it in the oven. I see when searching the oven method, they have crock pot/slow cooker. I'm not sure if you say slow cooker instead of crock pot.
