Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

If they'd sent anyone else besides Hank to check out Walt's inventory he definitely would've been seen as suspicious.
Hank probably reassured his colleagues about Walt by telling them to trust him and that he would help them in the investigation. It sounds bad but having a brother-in-law in the DEA is probably what allowed Walt to stay out of range for so long
Moral of the story, only cook crystal if your bro in law is a DEA agent
@@vasilijchmerkovskiy27 Yup, like when Walt and Jesse are in the RV when Hank is waiting for the search warrant, and Walt had to have a fake hospital call him.

Leave it to early Walt to lie when no one asked him to.
Hank probably would have been curious about the call.
This is the moment Walt realised if he didn't kill krazy 8 he would've snitched on him
Only in best scenario. In worst scenario Krazy 8 would kill him.
Nah in better call Saul it’s explained that crazy 8 ain’t actually a snitch
@@ethansomer7362technically he is a snitch, he just didn't snitch on the cartel. A nobody like Walt is golden to keep the DEA satisfied.
@@ethansomer7362Krazy 8 snitched his cousin and others
@@masterofreality5528 in BCS it's revealed that the cartel new from the beginning that Krazy 8 was a snitch and that they were using him to feed whatever info they wanted to give to the DEA.
Vince did such a good job not only portraying what kind of person Walt is/was but also how other people (especially Hank) treat him. Like all the fingers pointing at Walt and Hank wouldn't even consider him as a suspect for a second. Not only is he just not that kind of person, he is totally and completely incapable of pulling off these sort of crimes...except he isn't.
Right. Walt even says so later on, that he’s tired of living his life in fear and uncertainty. He craved to one day become a living breathing iron fist. It fell into perfect place since his front for hiding was already there for him, quite literally in plain sight, and Hank especially saw him as a man who’s a unassuming friendly high school teacher, never would he have reason to believe a man like Walt would have the will to even slightly step foot into something as dangerous as the drug/cartel world. To Hank, men like Tuco and the Salamancas were the only ones willing to live that lifestyle. Nasty psychotic vicious narcissists. No way would Walt be that type of man. No way would Walt have reason to be involved with even just a small scale criminal act, let alone successfully run an illegal drug organization. Walt was an extremely intelligent man, not just in science, but he just didn’t fully grasp and utilize it to his advantage until that lung cancer diagnosis.
Bravo Vince
Yea
Maybe also ego and arrogance on the part of Hank. An outsider might suspect Walt's secretive behaviour and quiet manner are hiding something, plus the obvious circumstantial fact that Walt has the perfect means, opportunity and motive to manufacture drugs for easy money. But Hank knew Walt for years socially so completely overlooked all that, didn't consider something so obvious.
Hank: “You gotta keep a better watch over your turf.” Walt apparently misinterpreted that just a tad
Stay out of my territory
Hank: "Our informant's likely dead, probably chopped up into pieces"
Walt: "Melted actually"
Hank: "What?"
Walt: "What?"
"That's the spirit, Walt."
Lmaooooo
"Good one Walt, you silly goose"
I don’t know Walt you’re acting kinda sus lately
"Two, actually."
"Huh?"
Hank could've caught walt so much earlier by not underestimating him.
Not just underestimations, family connections.
2:16 He even said so himself
also, walt giving the janitor away so casually was enough. trust me, not everyone can simply just pin their crimes on an innocent person and live with it, but walt does and doesn't seem to give much thought after it. i feel like hank thought that if he was innocent and walt set him up, he would have come clean sooner or later, but he didn't
Everybody saying this but police officers don't randomly assume their family members to be crime kingpins
@shiwoshiwoismyactualname I know, but Walt was so suspicious.
1:20 man, this information leads to Better Call Saul S05E03 where Domingo (Krazy8) agrees on being a ''CI'' for Hank and Steve. At the same time Saul gets the recognition on the streets for getting Krazy8 free and Lalo keeps trying to affect Gus.

The mask could’ve had Walt’s name on it with only his fingerprints and Hank still wouldn’t have suspected him.
He could have literally admitted everything and Hank would have just laughed at him lol.
Well of course it would have Walt’s fingerprints. He would use it for class. That’s not sus. Now everything else about his behavior? Yeah, Hank should have at least brought him in for questioning like they did Gus.
"Yeah, it's strange, we found a label inside the mask that reads "Property of Walter White......high school chemistry lab". We also found fingerprints that match yours exactly, and we took a DNA sample from the mask that was a 99.99% match for you. Heck of a coincidence, ay??"
😂😅 "You got me...."
Crazy eh ? Look like one of your student copied your DNA and fingerprint to frame you, I am telling you Walt, you are under estimating them. You don't want people start wonder about you eh ?
Would any of that be a surprise since he already knew it was Walt's lab these were taken from?
@@SocialWorkProfessor Good point! That was a rebuttal worthy of Saul.
Except that no Other fingerprints or DNA were found on these goggles, that the students freely shared.
If Hank would have stared at walt a little while longer the series would have ended right then and there with that abvious guilty face😂
walt was definitely scared at that moment lol 🤣🤣🤣
If Hank had even the smallest amount of respect for Walter , he would have caught him instantly
I think it's the other way around. He didn't think Walt was capable because he respected him and didn't think he'd sink so low.

"We don't want people to start wondering about you, huh?"
Walt: O.O

Lol Walt is just reeking of the guilt here lmao. His back turned much of the time, the folded arms, not looking at hank directly as much as possible, playing dumb in regards to the inventory and how much should be there...
It would be obvious to anyone except Hank.
If Gomez was there instead of Hank Walt would be behind bars so fast.
3:46 makes my heart drop every time
Knowing what Walt ultimately became.... Jesus
This might've been the most obvious evidence in the show before Gale's book.
No damage in the school, someone just casually unlocked the door and took things out. Very highly likely it was one of the people with a key, should've kept looking into that aspect.
They thought they found him! The janitor got fired and deported.
Even the official RUclips of Breaking Bad is embracing the meme of "Hank finds out".
I honestly felt bad for Hank throughout this show. He genuinely cared about Walter and was concerned about his diagnosis. He loved Walter's family and tried to do his job the best he could, an endeavor in which he was exceptionally skilled at doing. The problem for him was, he was TOO good at it, and in the end it wound up being his downfall.
I don't think he was good at his job, otherwise he would have found out about Heisenberg way earlier, Walt didn't even do a good job at hiding it.
Hank was an a$$hole whose a$$holery blinded him from what was right in front of him the whole time.
@@nicolacopony123 He was good at it. He just had a blind spot for walt cause of the familial connection
its so obvious walt is hiding something in this scene but to hank I imagine walt acts like this around him so much he wouldn't even notice a difference, and likely the reason hank went here alone was "hey I know someone who works there, no need to waste anybodies time I'll just walk over and talk to him", remember what jesse says near the end "mr white is smarter than you and he's luckier than you!"
Hank sure is a good guy.
If this happened in real life the security camera footage of Walt taking the mask would've been pulled out so fast lmao
depends on how long they keep the footage
Assuming a small storeroom next to a science lab even has security cameras in the first place - honestly I'd be surprised. I don't know how different it is in the US, but I work at a high school in Australia and the only place we even have security cameras at all is in the library, and that's only because it was built fairly recently. I can't think of a single other place in the school where we even have cameras.
People have serious hangups about filming/surveilling kids.
my public high school didn't have security cameras, why would this one?
It would have been so easy for him to alter the inventory list, or at least say they broke and he never got around to replace them when asked about the missing flasks.
He hadn’t yet learned the skill of lying convincingly under pressure.
It sounds like im listening to this through a paper towel tube
3:46 His territory,you say????
Hank was THIS close, man..
and that is the reason why family members shouldn't be sent to investigate their family
Sure, but it's not like Walt did anything. By having Hank go Walt would be much more comfortable and able to speak freely without a lawyer than some random DEA agent. Furthermore, it was Hank's snitch (Krazy-8) that got murdered so it was Hank's case.
I love how easily Hank could have suspected Walt from the very beginning, but trusted him that much to never question him.
I started tearing up in this scene when Walter said ''It's me, I'm the Heisenburger'' and Hank just fell to the floor in disbelief. Bravo Vince!
Truly

Truly one of the scenes of all time 😢
@@skahler curly ones please
Then he screamed: "No, Walt! You broke bad!!"
Hank would have suspected Walter right away if Walter dressed himself like Lalo Salamanca, giving off the cartel vibe.
Luckily for Walt and unfortunately for Hank, Walter’s mild-manner made him hide in a plain sight so well, just like Gus Fring.
And dexter morgan
Yeah, very obvious and logic, Hank definitely did not suspect Walter because he was part of his family, he just didn't suspect him because of his clothes
@strinft This too, although it's far from being incompatible with what I said.
This show was so good and so tense that I can't bear to watch it again.
Hank was so good at his job. Yet so bad as well. How did he ignore all of the red flags 😂
He was blind when it came to family
He would’ve caught Walt straight away if he didn’t know him. Denial is a powerful thing.
Love Hank and all his jokes. Grabbing a few beers with him would be an endless laughter😂
If a non-related DEA agent was the one taking the inventory Walt very likely would’ve been screwed based on the way he acts and reacts
3:07
-Bad time to talk?
-Absolutely! :)
omg his heart must be racing
Walt was very excited to see hank
Hank was so irrationally convinced that Walt couldn't be Heisenberg, while having solid facts straight up pointing that he is Heisenberg 🤪
At this point, no there wasn't any obvious proof. Sure, stuff went missing in HIS class, but then again as he says "those kids can do anything". He assumes Walter (or anyone of the faculty for that matter) left the door open for a bit, teenagers snuck in, got what they wanted and left.
It's not until far later that Hank should've started to be more suspicious.
@devanov3103 So? If you're such a investigative genius here, commit to a carreer of detective work.

3:42 wow
Maybe things have changed but I took chemistry in high school and college and never once did we break out full-face respirators.
I don't recall using anything more than some burners and salt in high school Chemistry. Even the fume hood sat in the corner of the classroom dusty and untouched.
This is the moment Hank almost ended the series before Walt lost any hair
I was a student assistant for Chem 1 in high school so I got to help the Chmistry teacher do inventory, took a whole week and doubt you'd just have a sheet on the wall with pieces of glassware on it. Also high school labs usually have lots of little vessels for students to use, they aren't going to have a bunch of big glass pieces, how many reactions with large volumes are you really going to be doing and how much more would that cost to have dozens of sutdents do versus having them do it at a smaller scale? Pretty sure the name of one of my oganic lab experiment books was specifically called "small scale organic experiments" or something like that.
Anxiety through the roof when i first saw this scene
Man you can see it even from the start of the show. Hank making fun of Walt even though he should be a little suspicious of him, because who could EVER suspect this completely inoffensive, pathetic man of being a crime lord? It was always about Walt's pride, from day one.

If I were Walt, I would have said: "Yeah, that's an old respirator. They go through wear and tear over the years and we toss them. Why do you ask?"
I thought of that too. It's as if theft is the only reason such things go missing.

Both had ego problem. Walt couldn't stand being sidetracked by Hank, and Hank couldn't stand the fact that the ultimate enemy he seek is Walt.
This is the moment where Walt should’ve been caught
So Hank was smart enough to see through Gus Fring (when no one else could) but couldn’t see through Walt who was clearly acting suspicious here?
FAMILY
Walt always acted goofy and fearful in the early seasons.
Imagine free stuff
“Probably chopped up in little pieces”
“Actually dissolved with acid”
“What?”
Executive producer Vince Gilligan
Walt could've gotten away with it completely if he said he knew Gale Boetticher from the very beginning which would've actually made sense cause they're both chemists.
Could've said that Gale approached him with an offer for a formula knowing his situation and he gave it to him in exchange of money.
if Walt was busted on this very scene, I would have finished college and became a Chemist
Hank has cognitive dissonance. The clues were right in front of his face from the start but it hurts too much to his unconscious to realize the truth
Just amazing, words fail me😊
This is hank's problem he us goofy 90% of the time, except with the bad guys. That is not what a good detective does.
WALT! I donno man ....
Youve been acting sus lately...
It's almost like we have an imposter among us....
Just realized Hank indirectly got Krazy8 killed by revealing he's a snitch to Walt
He was so obviously guilty
Walt acting extremely suspicious in this scene and if it was realistic to the characters, yanked would picked up on it and starting to keep an eye on Walt
See why I first saw hank really didn't like him...became one of my favorite characters....smart, loyal and morally good
I’m not convinced that Hank didn’t suspect that Walt was “Heisenberg” the whole time, from this very scene on I believe that Hank deep down knew that Walt was Heisenberg, but just didn’t want to believe it because he believes Walt isn’t capable of being a hardened criminal.
0:09 jajajajaj 🤣🤣🤣
If Walt was a terrible liar this would've been the end for him. Any other detective would've had him dead to rights.
