Hey Glen, have you considered either adding the unboxing to the old cookbook show or putting it at the end of another video as kind of a "bonus"? I really enjoy these and would be bummed to miss out on them since no one else is really doing this.
i was thinking the same! A few minutes at end of a cooking episode is a great idea. Finding recipes in actual physical cookbook is so much more fun than finding it online.
They're fun in their own way, but I've never been a fan of "unboxing" videos like this. The only thing I get out of these personally is pausing the screen and reading through some of the old recipes. Otherwise, the videos are kinda boring to me. I think what Glen is doing, gathering and eventually donating these books is an admirable goal, and I'm really happy he's doing this, but I can see why these aren't as popular with some people.
Possible solution? Film the unboxing in short bits and append the bits to your regular cooking posts? We love the unboxing and would be disappointed not to see them any more.
Glen, start a second channel that does unboxings where you can spend more time looking at them and you don't get punished. Same with the cocktails. You could even do deeper dives into those. Like how tikki has such wild history. I'd watch all three.
In my mind, a seperate channel of the unboxings , and then edit the opening of the recipe for the Sunday, “Old Cookbook” show, to include the opening of the cook book from which the days recipe is taken.
I agree, a second channel on the old cookbooks as well as a deep dive into his collection. I find the history fascinating and how recipes morph and change over time.
These are great videos and an extension of your cooking videos. You’re probably the foremost expert in old cook books and it would be a great loss if we didn’t see these anymore.
Soothsayer Flour was big in the southern Midwest at one time (Kansas, Missouri, Illinois). They used to host cooking schools in local communities in cooperation with grocery stores and appliance dealers. They invited housewives to see and learn baking demonstrations and methods, of course on new appliances. That book cover was probably given at these so called "schools" and the lady got her name on a mailing list to receive regular recipes.
Hello from Michigan.. You Tube is nuts. This show is great!!!!!! I love seeing all the old books. I have collection of books too.. Maybe someone who has a copy of the Sunday book gets inspired to pull it out and relook at it and make something. Another viewer said that you give the books to a library, good job. I agree with another viewer to add 2 packages to the end of your shows. Please say hi to Julie and give Chicken a cuddle and petting for me. Can you show him/her when you are joined by Chicken? I remember Chicken jumping on Julie's back when she was bent over in a beer show in your basement a few years back. Keep the shows coming. See you next show.
I love the old cookbooks and am said the the tube finds it necessary to make them hard for you to continue. I also love that you are making arrangements for them to go to a library to be preserved. I always wanted to weep when I went to the recycling center and saw the bins of old books set for destruction.
I collect old cookbooks too although Glen has so many more awesome ones than I that being said it is my favorite thing to go rummage for whenever I go on the road. Stopping at antique malls and thrift stores and digging through especially to find those handwritten gems that are getting harder and harder to find
I will miss these videos. You made me interested in the old cookbooks I have from my mother. I had never really looked at them. See if there might be a way to incorporate an unboxing in another of your videos. I have learned a lot from them and really look forward to see what you cook from one of them. I am sad to learn others don’t watch. I might skip a video of a recipe I would never make myself but I never miss a cookbook unboxing. 😢
The large pile of packages you always seem to have in these videos makes me curious about your collection as a whole. In my mind I imagine it as its own kind of library occupying a dedicated room in your house. I’d love a video giving us a tour of your collection so we can see just how extensive it really is
I think that was my unopened envelope sitting by itself. I can understand your reasoning for stopping the unboxing. I will continue watching to see if you pick or look at the two poor examples I sent. They are tied in the upper corner with thread because they are well used. The front cover of the small one was particularly interesting. Love your channel.
Wow. A Duotang! That takes me back to all the book reports and projects I handed in back in high school. BTW, I watch all your videos (and yes, right to the end) no matter what they are about. Call me crazy but I love Cocktails After Dark even though I don’t drink.🍸🍹
The clothing of the ladies in your first books suggest 1920s rather than pre 1900. Spry rings a bell for me - did we have lard by that name in the 50s in the uk I wonder.
I wonder if livestreams are treated differently? You could livestream the unboxing and do a little live Q&A looking through the books, I bet it would get huge traction.
We fully understand if you need to stop the unboxing videos but I will really really miss them. And I would of guessed they were drawing more viewers to the Sunday program since I can't wait to see what you make from the newly opened books. Thanks for the unboxing videos - they're great!
I love these unboxing videos. It could be fun to see you. Cook on Sunday and tag on at the end unboxing of one or two packages and then next Sunday’s recipe comes from one of the newly unboxed books. But you do you. As for the cocktail videos, maybe they would do better on the brewing channel? Just an idea. Tfs.
I can’t understand how anyone wouldn’t enjoy the unboxing! These are among my favorites, but I am a history buff and I love that component that is brought in to it. I also play a game with myself of which book is Glen going to choose for his Sunday recipe. I already think I know which book it’s going to be for this week!
Glad you enjoyed them! Figured the Jell-o one was a little later but thought you may enjoy it all the same if not pass it to someone else in the hobby! I love these videos and mirror another commenter that said either add a small section to the beginning or end of the old recipe show with one or two unboxings.
Yours are the only unboxing videos i can stand. I love seeing the funny little notes and things you find, or peculiar recipes concocted to shoe horn in as many items of a particular brand as possible. I'm looking forward to "Stir-up Sunday"...hope I'm not doomed to disappointment.
Several family members benefited from my cookbook collection when we retired and downsized. At the time I had over 50 old cookbooks and had 5 recipe boxes.
I love these videos. In fact, I just looked thru my collection before I saw you had this out there. Like the idea of opening some on your Sunday video.
I like the videos where you unbox the cookbooks you are sent. I'm so sorry that youtube is punishing you for being grateful to your viewers. So I've posted a like and this comment, hoping they will help your numbers even a little bit.
I'm a big fan of all of your content including the 'unboxing of old cookbooks' series. I enjoy your content partly for the food and recipes, but also for the historical content that you bring to the table. You and Julie have a wealth of knowledge, and that part of your programming would be sorely missed (although I know you provide during actual recipe videos as well). I love the enthusiasm you display when doing something as simple as opening up a dusty old cookbook! Keep the videos coming, my family and I are truly enjoying everything you're putting out.
Well shoot. I appreciate that you explained your dilemma. I sure didn't realize how the algorithm on RUclips works. As a cookbook collector, I enjoy and look forward to the unboxing videos. They're full of surprises and very educational - a history lesson. Idf you continue to produce more, I'll be watching them twice to try to "play the game". I'm excited to see what you make from one of these books for the weekend video!
I love history, and the history of food seen through recipe books is as fascinating to me as the pleasure I get from watching the cooking. Thanks for providing this. Fully understand you have to do what works for you.
I love books, so love your unboxing videos. I enjoy listening to your discussion about each book. You have an amazing wealth of cook book. Maybe just add a few minutes to the Sunday Cookbook show and do two of three books each week.
It's a shame the unboxing videos don't do well. I enjoy watching them and then watching to see what recipe you make on the weekend. As for the cocktail show: I don't drink alcohol but like watching the videos. If you create a new channel for the cocktails I'll follow along and continue watching.
I believe many of your Sunday morning old cookbook show viewers would enjoy a few unboxings at the end of the show. Speaking for myself, I always wish those videos were a bit longer. Even if it meant showing a few less recipe book pages, if time is a consideration (though I love seeing them). Something to think about.
oh man, i love the joys of jello. my grandma had a copy and every time i went to go visit her as a kid i would inevitably end up flipping through it mesmerized by the photos
I enjoy the unboxing, and feel hostile towards the youtube algorithm that works to deprive me! However, I appreciate your situation, and will be continuing to watch all of your cooking videos. I hate it when big companies and their $$ work against wonderful things.
As you always focus on, the history of cooking and way of life are reflected in the cookbooks. It is a shame the unboxing views are less. Among my favorites and I will miss seeing these! Maybe you could place it on the end of the cooking videos?
Glad to see a Watkins cookook. If you ever see one with "Italian Cream Cake" do try that recipe. It's one of my favourites --- nothing remotely either "Itaiian" or "Cream" about it, but delicious anyway.
I was going to suggest, as others have, that you add an unboxing at the end of one of the Saturday or Sunday shows as a bonus bit of content. Those that would like to watch may do so, and those that don't won't . I love your show, I love the old cookbooks and how things have changed over the years. I also enjoy your lessons and your "rants" . Please keep on. Thanks.
Is it possible to combine the unboxing with the recipes? Like, have the unboxing portion then the cooking portion? It would get the material in front of the target viewers and tie it all together. I love the unboxing videos, personally
I love the unboxing videos. Probably because I collect old cookbooks too. I enjoy learning more about the history of cookbooks and cooking. Thank you for sharing your unboxing and knowledge.
If you create a new channel just for the unboxing videos, I would watch it. I enjoy seeing all the different cookbooks you receive and learning about them.
The cookbooks get sent to you because you truly appreciate them! My favorites too are the "well used" books, such a wealth of info in the handwritten addendums 💜Hate to see the unboxings end, but completely understand!
Like others commenting, I’m sorry to see these unboxing videos go. I hope you continue the Old Cookbook Show on Sundays, and would enjoy hearing more about the chosen book during those episodes.
I watch every video as they come out! What a pain this platform is. I enjoy the cocktails, recipes new and old and the unboxing videos. I’ve also started watching (and really enjoying!) the hangar and travel videos.
Please keep this going I really enjoy this so much moor than the cocktail videos cuz I don’t drink anymore. It also gives me an ideal what kind of recipe books to look for that you might like. Please keep Wednesday mail opening show! I promise to make sure I hit the like button. From a watcher in Arkansas
I love these videos! When I saw the Spry cookbook in the thumbnail, I clicked right away. I loved that cookbook as a kid with the soap opera-type storyline. Calvin lovibg his pie and donuts, or whatever else Jenny was making. I think they had a daughter named Sylvia? It's been years, and i don't know what became of it after my mother died, but that brought back so many fond memories.
I would love it if you could tack the unboxings, or at least a discussion of the cookbook in question, onto the old recipe videos. I really enjoy the unboxings and hope they don't go away entirely
Don't you just love it when several of your special interests intersect?? Vintage cookbooks AND vintage office supplies? Too much fun. TBH, I only watch these when I have time to relax with a warm drink and just hang out. Fall is here, so warm drinks are back on the menu at my house.
Either adding unboxing videos to the end of your cooking videos as a bonus, as another viewer suggested, or putting these in a separate channel and then not only focusing on the unboxing, but showing each page of these cookbooks so that viewers can pause and maybe copy the recipes they think are interesting to try. I have paused a couple of your videos when one of the recipes caught my eye and some of them are very tasty!
Thank you Glen! I have loved watching the videos where you cook recipes from these books but for some reason I've never seen these unboxing videos. After watching it I really really would love a series from you of going over the history and evolution of recipes. I'm glad I watched! I don't usually watch the unpacking ones and now I regret that. I don't think I've missed a Sunday video since I've subscribed to your channel. So interesting and helpful.
i check your channel every night and watch everything you post whether on your community tab, your hangar channel, your revived beer channel, and will follow your newest channels for these cookbook unboxings as well as your cocktails. I love your delivery, commentary and style totally. Your content is top-notch! Thank you for all your efforts. - Marilyn
Noooo !! lol...Glen, maybe 'show' your fav cookbooks at the end of cooking from the old cookbooks......I love the cookbook segments, and grrr to you tube !
I bookmark my favorite channels and sort them into folders by subject matter. Then I don't worry about what RUclips pushes. I watch what I want. My favorite series on your channel is the "What was on sale".
Could the cookbooks have their own channel? Maybe a few times a month? I am fascinated by them, and I am sure there are lots of collectors who would enjoy it. It may also be a way to feed new viewers to your main channels.
I love this kind of video! I don't know why they don't do well. I want to tell you that I have made your grapenuts breads many times and everyone loves it!
How sad! I watch every video and love the unboxing one's. They are so fun and so interesting. Maybe like some others have said, add one "unboxing" to the end of each cooking video.
as a collector of vintage/antique and community cookbooks i find the unboxes fantastic! hope you are able to find a way to keep doing this without getting hurt by the dumb algorithm...
It's crazy that these videos don't perform as well. These unboxing videos are among my favorites.
Same for me!
Ditto, kiddo
Yes! Agreed, they are so interesting!
Mine, too!

I'm glad I watched! I don't usually watch the unpacking ones and now I regret that. I don't think I've missed a Sunday video since I've subscribed to your channel. So interesting and helpful.
I like the history in the cookbook videos. I will miss them!
I would totally watch a separate channel of opening these packages and other side quests
i check your channel every night and watch everything you post whether on your community tab, your hangar channel, your revived beer channel, and will follow your newest channels for these cookbook unboxings as well as your cocktails.
Well dang. I skipped the first unboxing because I didn’t think I’d be interested, but still watched the normal vids. I’ll def watch em all now.
It may also be a way to feed new viewers to your main channels.
i enjoy these episodes glen. keep it up
I love this kind of video! I don't know why they don't do well. I want to tell you that I have made your grapenuts breads many times and everyone loves it!
Glen, I love any content you create!
The historical research donation is a brilliant thing. I enjoy your channel very much, thank you from London (UK, not the city in Ontario).
I love these unboxing videos. I hope you can figure out a way to keep them.
I love these opening videos. Sad to see them go. I wonder if doing shorts if unboxings would work?
Tack on the unboxing of 3-5 books at the end of your regular videos after the credits/video commentary with Julie :)
