Thank You Art for sharing such a powerful video! We must never forget what our ancestors went through. We are stronger than we think , royalty is in our veins! We are a free people in a oppressive society.
Art just watching you in between those solid no life walls in midnight darkness only for a few seconds; affected my heartbeat. I began to feel a panic attack overcome my mindset. Our people have suffered in humanely seemingly forever; even now. I had a similar experience when I was in college. My professor planned a trip to New Orleans most noted slave master’s mansions and plantations. In back of each mansion were the slave cabins😥. When I stepped inside one, I immediately felt the strong presence of the many hearts who once resides between those stone walls with dirt floors, no toilets, no kitchen, no bedrooms, no lights. Uncontrollable tears drenched my clothing. Peace and Blessings😇🙏🏽🤗
You brought it home to us and now it is up to us. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. My husband and I definitely plan to go. The video was beautifully done and your words inspired us. Please please please go visit The Legacy Museum in Montgomery Alabama. You will be glad you did. You will be able to get tickets for The Peace and Justice Museum there and a shuttle will take you there and back. You can’t film anything at The Legacy Museum but you can at The Peace and Justice. Man I tell you it will change your life. We took two days to do The Legacy because you can’t rush it. You will get emotional so be ready.
Hi Art, I don’t make many comments on RUclips but this video moved my spirit, especially when you were in the holding cell. I love our ancestors and have not forgotten them; we will be restored and renewed with God’s blessing. Thank you for all that you’re doing brother Art, you are making a difference.
Thank you Art for this experience, This is so enlighten and such a need to know place. I'm a 64 year old grown ass man and this is heart breaking. My heart go out to our people for what they had to go though back then. Our people got the nerve now to complain about what we are going though now which don't compare no where near what our people went though. The waves clashing against the rock there to me simulate the tears of our people crying out. I pray that the spirit of God be with those that never made it out from behind those doors. God Bless you Art for all the videos that you brought back with you to share with us. GOD BLESS YOU AND COUNTRY STYLE.
@Buds of Spring Thank you for your response Buds of Spring. I'm sorry you took it that way but that's not what I'm saying here. I know that our people are still suffering today, But what I'm saying is that we have more rights and freedom now than our ancestors did back then. I'm not blaming our people for what the villains did back then. What I'm saying is some of our people keeping talking about who's holding us down instead of just getting up and stand on our feet as the people that we are. We are strong people that can do anything we put our mind to do. Look how far we've come over the years. We've went from our people running the country to serving in very high places. Again I would never put our people down for anyone or anything. NEVER!! And God Bless you for your comment.
My heart was so hurt behind the things they had to go through in life and we still going through it art thanks my brother for shining that light on reality
Thank you my brother I felt that! My grandaughter went their when she was 16, it changed her life. She got her LPN at 17 before she finished high school and now her BSN.RN she is 26 single no babies the Pandemic allowed her to buy her won house because of the high demand for Nurses from 9.000 a week to 5.000 a week as a traveling Nurse currently
This was a tear jerker got me very emotional. Africa is definitely on my bucket list I pray God's Mercy and grace will it to come to past before I enter into the better side of life thank you my brother for sharing this God bless
Been to Ghana twice but haven’t built up the courage yet for the Cap Coast dungeons…the spirit of this place comes through in every video that I’ve seen featuring this place so I know I will have to prepare spiritually and mentally for this journey. Thanks Art for sharing 🇬🇭❤️
😭😭!!!!! Just the thought of what our ancestors were forced to endure tears my heart into pieces! It's so heartbreaking to see such a death dungeon. Still, I'm grateful to have had an opportunity thanks to you Art Fennel... doing it Country Style. Thank you
Thank you for this. This broke my heart. I pray I will be able to see this one day. When she closed the door and turned the lights out I wanted to cry. I can’t imagine how our ancestors felt. Thank you for this video ❤️
Tears! 😢. I felt like I was there through this video. This castle is something else emotionally. Knowing our ancestors were there and the thought of what they endured is heartbreaking . Even the waters are not at peace. So much history, anguish and pain. Thank you so much for sharing!
Your such a great story teller. Thank you so much for sharing this experience. I just found out that I have Nigerian and West African DNA . I come from strong blood because I couldn't even imagine 🙏🏾 this had my heart feeling some type of way 💔
Before I am dead and gone. that is one of my biggest bucket lists in life is to visit that part of Africa. And to be able to see where my ancestors had to walk through to get on those ships . Just watching it is chilling let alone being there will be unbelievable.
Even as an adolescent, I've had visions of 1 day visiting Africa. It's like I've always had that strong connection even to this day. Art, Gee Whiz, that footage just made my heart melt with imagination of what our ancestors had to go through. Great Job Narrating us through that!
Thank you so so much Art Fenell for you taking us back to where our ancestors came from I thank God everyday for my ancestors and what they went through thank you Art and Henry Louis Gates God bless you all i,ve found so many people I didn,t know iwas related to I know I loved them like family now l know for sure
My greatest of grandma came through those same gates as a child and was sold in Virginia to a Scot man with the last name hair. This was between the late 1600 and the mid 1700's. She is the one who started our family 🌲. My great grand father is as black as they come. My folks are more black and brown, with some light brown and red Indian. No white allowed. I would love to see the mother Land just once.
The interesting thing is that, while the slaves were going through this suffering, the slave merchants are worshiping and praying in the church above the dungeons. How ironic
This is just captivating! I am truly blessed and this gives me even more reasons to believe that fact. It is also a testament of how resilient our ancestors were. Thanks for sharing this segment with us. I'm suddenly overcome with a strong sense of humility. It has taken me a substantial amount of time to even express these few lines, after viewing this depiction. Great work Art!!!
It’s what our ancestors could do for them, build this country and make them wealthy, as history went on once slaves were freed a lot of slave owners lost that wealth, but nothing compared to what our ancestors lost🥺
I had to sit upright in bed, when the lights went out,., and the door of no return open..Art my DNA inhabit a continent and a country. African & Native American. Life & Land was stolen😪
Thanks for sharing Art.gives me a better understanding of our ancestry.🙏🏿💔💝I love my people forever.

Shameful, so many of our people sold for trinkets and umbrellas, shame, shame, shame. May all who profited in the slave trade reap what they sow.
