  • Our DANCE IN CUBA video of the week takes you directly to Havana with an Afro-Cuban dance piece for Eleguá, performed by Raíces Profundas. Stay tuned and subscribe to our channel to be the first to see Cuban Music and Dance videos from top artists in Cuba.
This was a private dance performance for PlazaCUBA travelers during our 2018 Cuban Music and Dance Tour in Havana. Raíces Profundas performed their full-length show, “Patakin” (a Yoruba word describing the oral narratives and stories in the Lucumí faith, which teach moral lessons to followers.) The show, which enacts many of the stories of the Yoruba Orishas, has received high praises, winning awards for choreography and costume design in Cuba. The Orisha, Eleguá, is often depicted as a child or a trickster, and is the deity that opens the pathways in ceremony and in life.
Choreographer and Costume Designer: Emilio Hernandez
