Though that only works on markers where the tip has dried out so dried ink is clogging the tip e.g. when you store markers vertically for a long time with the tip pointing up, or if you forgot to replace the cap. Chances are, if you get a dry marker in a kit, it has just been stored improperly. Since most markers are waterbased, simply adding water can reactivate the ink that's clogging the tip.
