Stellar Blade reminds me of a ps2 game in all the best ways possible! This title really surprised me with how much fun I had with it. Also really good editing, sound, and video quality :)
For me stellar blade was awesome, it had everything that a game needs a memorable main character, awesome world design, fun game play, and finally a decent story, my favorite part of the game was finding all the outfit you can wear, mainly because the outfits are very stylish and cool, heck I beat the game three times back to back, since I wanted all the endings and got the platinum too, looking forward to what's next for eve
I also like that is just a full one package experience with some fun fighting and little exploring you can just play and enjoy and replay if you like like the good old days with PS2 games.
@@ronaldthornton5455iirc, the DEI/woke people bashed this game to hell and back because it was not following their “standards”. And gamers heavily despises these folks cause of all the political agenda BS they are pushing. So to some degree, them standing up to DEI/woke standards helped

AAA has gotten a reputation for predatory microtransactions, bug filled day one releases and ugly female characters. Stellar Blade came out as a complete game with minimal bugs, beautiful female characters and no microtransactions. If it wasn't for the censorship crap, gamers would be holding Shift Up on a pedestal. For now, people are anxiously eyeing what they do next, especially now that they have gone public and have advertised they are looking to hire a manager to file ESG reports.
Yup. Riddled with bugs. Broken on release. Filled to the brim with “micro” transactions and live service garbage, cut content, censorship and ESG garbage.
@@Crashed131963 no it is NOT a choice, you must input your credit card numbers just like windows OS, always putting up a store front asking to buy this service or software, one wrong move could ruin your life.
The censorship was resolved when they released the uncensored version of those costumes in a later patch, and they were even more exposed than the previously unpatched costumes.
I pre-ordered this game. I downloaded the demo and started playing and grinding it. I downloaded all the files to be ready on my PS5 so i can start playing on release. Meanwhile everyone finished the game while i am still in the desert 3 months after and with no idea if am even half way threw despite having 47 hours into a game that is supposed to be much less than that. No is not because i died a hundred times to any boss(that is probably gonna happen to the last harder bosses), i never even needed a double digit number of deaths to defeat any boss until now. But my way of playing is so different from the "hours to finish the game" as said in reviews that to me that time is irrelevant. I look everywhere dozen of times, i go around places again and again, i practice my skills for a dozen hours, i grind a lot etc.
To some, the censorship is miniscule, but we who fought against it did so because we do not want further censorship in our games and this game was promised to be uncensored upon release. They eventually release new outfits that looked like the original uncensored versions so we know us customers have been heard.
Yeah like their censorship was very small but if we let it fly because it was “small” then you know it’ll just get worse later on. Especially cancel culture and all that these days. And I’m very glad that people who are against that showed up and supported the game and devs who seemingly are against censorship. Heck I bought the deluxe edition after getting the physical copy 🤣
I am happy I bought the physical disk, no censorship at all, just ignore the updates. So even if they come with a censorship after years like in FF8, F... them.
The plot is a bit like a movie I heard of when people get attacked by super soldiers but it turns out the humans are the evil AI and the evil super soldiers are humans…
Your coverage of this game was brilliant man! Ever since I beat Sekiro, I’ve had an itch for that combat style that no game could scratch. This game not only delivered on that combat system but did it with beautiful visuals as well as music that I can only describe as immaculate. I don’t care what anyone says, this is game of the year for me.
@@Kwon853 I think it was the clanging of the blades sekiro style that Stellar Blade recreated beautifully. I'm a sucker for good sound design. But yes, this is definitely a great game.
One of my favourite games ever. And I’ve been playing video games since the 1980s. So refreshing. I love Eve and absolutely adore the combat system. First game in a long time I went straight from completing to NG+. 10/10 Shift Up.
I thought the voice acting team made Eve bland and wry on purpose, because she was literally created in a laboratory and indoctrinating by the higher-ups in Heaven’s Royalty, for the sole purpose of eliminating all Naytiba lifeforms on Earth
Pro: Amazing combat, gorgeous visuals, good story, fun character customization options and Eve as a Video Game Waifu (Raven a close 2nd) Con: The fucking voice acting (Raven was the best voice imo, Adam was hands down the worst)
According to game journalists it should've failed, but gamers like things that are fun. This game is similar to a PS2 game, which was basically the final arc of the golden age of gaming. But as far as game journalists are concerned anything before the widespread pandering and activism is the dark ages of gaming. But most gamers are not interested in getting preached at.. they just like things that are fun to play.
Honestly, I really liked Eve's English VA & thought she did an amazing job. Do keep in mind that Eve is an android and her character development through the story was incredible, imo of course. Seeing Eve being all timid and "go with the flow" at the beginning of the game, to absolutely furious with everything towards the end when her emotions actually start to show. The last few hours really brought out her true colours, both as a character and in the voice acting. I thought it was superb. Additionally, the way she interacts with the environments, maybe trips over something here and there, comments about the "old civilization" and so forth were great touches to make her seem more believable as she starts to understand the world around her. And my personal favourite, the way she smashes buttons. Most characters just press the red button, she closes her fist and goes WHAM for every single button. That had me crackin' tf up every time. Lilly wasn't bad and she was quite believable, but Adam..... yeah his VA was mediocre and his lines even worse. I do feel fault lies withi some mistranslations, being it is a Korean-developed game. With that said, I'm on my 6th playthrough and I've loved every second I've put in this game. My absolute 2024 GoTY. Black Myth might be a worthy contender in the next couple weeks. ***SPOILERS*** Her scene after the Raven fight made me like her that much more. She was just a total badass, really showing her emotions and had some great lines. As Raven begs her to kill her, Eve is like "Nah, you're gonna live in agony and watch as I f everything up". Chef's kiss.
I'm on my 4th play through and really loving it too (normal diff). I so agree with your noticing how Eve is so rough at times... like when she smashes buttons with the back of her fist. LOL The way she admonishes Roxanne about not wanting to hear fawning BS "Just stick to the facts Mam!" sort of attitude. By the last third of the game Eve becomes a bit emo at times, which is cool to see. She's evolving as a human... but... is she actually human? I found the story engaging, but then, I haven't played Nier Automata yet.
The demo release was brilliant honestly, because so many people had never heard of Stellar Blade. A large number of people would not have risked their money on a no-name company making a game they never heard of that looks like a waifu game. Honestly, when I first started seeing ads for it, I had some assumptions about the game just being an excuse for a sexy female lead to attract a young male audience. If it wasn't for the free demo, I would never have even bothered trying it. After playing the demo, I was sold. 100%. And after seeing a lot of demo playthroughs on YT, that seems like the general consensus. The game snuck up on them, they saw a free demo and gave it a shot, and were 100% sold.
I'll be honest, I was in the same exact boat as you up until the reveal that there would be a demo. The amount of confidence they must've had in their product when even much larger developers choose to lock demos behind pre-orders (you probably know who I mean :P) was what made me think this was more than what was being marketing. And I'm so glad my gut feeling was right. This is a phenomenal first game for Shift Up and I can't wait to see what else they're cooking up.
I bought the game with a lot of doubt. But Stellar Blade game play is actually awesome, combat is good, skill-tree is good, boss fight is good, music is gorgeous (the sound track from the final boss is the Latin version of the track in the flooded station). Love this game.
Like fellow Korean-developed game Lies of P, Stellar Blade was a strongly needed title in this triple AAA woke disaster environment Western gaming companies have been throwing at us lately. It took me quite a while but I finally Platinum'd trophied this bad boy a few weeks ago. Enjoyed every singe moment of it and I'm glad it did well. Korea has really been surprising us with such high-quality games. Crimson Desert, developed by Pearl Abyss, is looking to be another diamond in a sea of mediocrity that surely meet the same acclaim as the two titles I've listed and will cement Korea as another East Asian country that is ignoring forced DEI/ESG/whatever in favor of giving players what they want. China is looking to follow in their footsteps, as Black Myth: Wukong, Lost Soul Aside, and Phantom Blade Zero, from the looks of them, are going to be just as exciting and surreal as their Korean counterparts. Such a shame what Western gaming companies (with few exceptions) have devolved to.
Yet another great video! I like how you actually focus a lot on the feel the player get from playing this game, instead of just running the "Eve is not allowed to be sexy!"-kinda' theme that it seems most others wants to go for. This game is really great, and I've played through it a bunch of times already, and also got all the trophies. Although I wish you would have mentioned the utter PAIN that follows when trying to get the f***ing fishing trophy! Haha
Im about 10 hours into this game. Fuck the combat is satisfying. Pulling off perfect parries, dodges, blinking etc makes you feel like a gaming badass. And sue me, EVE is nice to look at. This is a game made for gamers, not a DEI box ticking exersize. More of this
In my opinion, this game is epic. I platinumed it months ago, and till this day I play it regularly. I'm milking Wukong cuz I really don't have another game in line afterwards. I'm loving Wukong. But I always come back to Stellar Blade even if only to complete a single side quest. Aesthetically, the world is amazing. The music just engulfs you in its world. And obviously, Eve is hot, strong, and so incredibly beautiful. I love thoroughly engulfing myself in her world.
yeah, as soon as I picked it up it was awesome. At first it's a sense of wonder, because it is so new and so fresh you don't know what is going to be next, then the challenge and fun of figuring out the combat. That first boss was kicking my ass a few times. By then end it became familiar, the music, the landscape, didn't want to put it down it was like saying good bye to a friend. i got all the trophies, and collected things that didn't even get a trophy. So many devs today forget to make their games fun.
Can’t really compliment you enough on these videos. Your breakdowns are informative, enjoyable, and really highlight the contributors, design and gameplay choices that make these games noteworthy. Gonna go and check this one out asap.
The cans w originally designed for product placement and when she holds up the can it was going to give a description and history of the drink. However shift up didn't get any investment from soft drinks companies so had to make up some.
@@Lordmrgrumps yeah it seemed like they were going for something similar to the monster drink placement in death standing. Could've been cool but maybe a little immersion breaking.
@@asfandope Yeah I believe the director was really hoping on a product placement deal with Pepsi. In the 2021 PlayStation showcase trailer at about 1:22 you can see the vending machine at the rest area was branded as Pepci and had the Pepsi logo on it. They changed it before launch
Already one of my favorite games of all time (currently on my 7th playthrough). You can tell this game had actual heart and soul put into it which is a rarity these days.
This is a hot take, but I found Eve to have a lot of character and quirk. I thought she had hilarious dry humor despite the fact of where she came from and the assassin one-woman army that she is. The fact that she would take time to question Adam at the rest stops and interact with the piano and teddy bears and general world around her while also staying driven towards her objective showed a lot of character. I think that just because someone is subtle, dry or serious doesn't necessarily make them without character. I think it's just a serious kind of quirky.
I fell in love with Stellar Blade when shown in the game awards I think if I remember correctly.. It was love at first sight... Despite the drama about sexuality etc I loved the game I adore it like Nier Automata... Some people were telling me you bought the game just to look at EVEs ass... Yeah right dude whatever you say I'm not horny... I never looked EVEs ass everytime because my eyes were watching the background and movements of the enemies... For those who say that the game is sexualizing females etc I have to say one thing... The game is rated 18+ it's not for little kids.... For example you never seen a naked woman... Like cmon dude.. Also I saw comments like they showing these sexualizing things to draw people's attention and to get sales... My answer? Let them cook even if they planning this... They're doing a really good job.. Final conclusion?? If you like the game for whatever reason?? Keep it to yourself... The people always criticise and they point their finger everywhere the look.. The game is freaking beautiful and if you enjoy it that's what counts P.S : I'm planing to platinum.. I'm on my second playthrough
Too many people gave up on the game due to what the presumed to be a super sexualised game. The character was aesthetically pleasing no doubt but it was everything else that made this game so damn gorgeous. Especially the enemy designs...I have never seen enemy design so bizarre yet amazing to look at.
@@asfandope the monsters gave me vibes from Stranger Things tbh But yes the game is amazing.... Even Yoko Taro admitted they made a better game than me
For some reason, YT decided to show your video. And I platinum'd SB like a couple of weeks ago. Great video ! Personally I love SB so much. It was so fun that I went ahead and started my 5th playthrough until they announced the SB+Nier DLC release date. So I stopped playing SB and jumped into Elden Ring until the DLC is out. lol. For me, Wukong and Stellar Blade are my GOTYs.
Thanks to the physical release of the game, it was possible to play the game without the day one patch and get a nearly completely uncensored experience. The only censorship present in the 1.00 build was some of the blood being toned down from the demo, but everything else remained intact.
@@WesMordine you should be able to uninstall the digital version of the game and install the disc version instead. You have to turn off all system and game updates and disconnect your PS5 from the Internet and keep them off until you finish the game, otherwise the game will update automatically.
I dunno. Eve doesn't seem poorly acted in English, not bland. She is pretty much a child at first (mind wise). She's there simply to kill the naytiba. Then she grows. She also has inherent good in her, like when she says something like "I don't need rewards for doing something good or helping people".
I'm playing through the game right now and I think I understand what the problem is with traversal and platforming: Shift Up made it so that EVE will automatically climb over low terrain inclines and railings, even when what's on the other side is a bottomless pit. Perhaps they should've tackled this issue like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance did and only let the character do that when she's sprinting at full speed, or alternatively handle it like Metal Gear Solid V, where you could hold down the interact button (which in this case would be R2) to automatically clear out obstacles in the way.
I was happy to be part of the movement that defended Stellar Blade while it was still in demo in April of this year and I posted videos on my channel that show the authentic reaction of girl gamers who loved the game. I loved your review Asfandope. +1 subscribed 🌟
Great video, and Loved the game! My only day 1 buy since a long time. Speaking of music overlap, near the shop of Roxanne the music sounds very very close to the Persona 5 theme song, it's quite funny (I made a video showing it off if you're curious just type "Persona 5 music in my Stellar Blade?!" Anyway, good job and what a game SB is! P.S. i wanted to add: it's a joy to see some coverage of the actual game and not just how Eve looks... thank you
@@williamhououin I feel like the game actually goes much further than just the superficial surface most chose to focus on. It's actually a really solid experience, hence my 40+ hour playthrough
Disagree with the gun being useless. It’s a great tool in the game for drawing and kiting enemies. Watched a lot of streamers getting overwhelmed by enemies when they could have just popped one with the gun and waited for it to come to them. Then rince and repeat for the rest of the group of enemies. It is also handy for removing environmental hazards, taking out turrets and doing puzzles.
in retrospect, sure I get what you mean. But when playing I still found the transition from fast paced melee to the shooting to be a little jarring but I guess that comes down to my personal preference more than a shortcoming of the game.
I don't mind a low budget studio having ropey 3rd language (English) acting. I'm just glad it isn't left out like a lot of studios would do. I remember having to read entire scripts of ff7 & 8 as a kid. I'd love to replay them classics today. But theres just no way I'm reading all that shite
I was skeptical at first on release and decided to hold off a couple weeks to make sure it wasn’t going to be another dumpster fire of a game and when the only major complaints I heard was about the outfits, I decided to dive in and god damn I’m glad I did! The combat while not super deep was fun and felt rewarding whenever you were successful in pulling off some awesome combos. The music is fantastic! Patiently waiting for the soundtrack to go on sale! And the game is beautiful! My favorite section was the Orbit elevator. The views and the total tone shift from the never ending desert areas was truly a treat
I really liked this game. I normally get all my games for ROG Ally, Steamdeck or Switch (I prefer handhelds). This game made me sit through a game on my TV. I have since started getting more for my PS5. Definitely more into the console itself since playing it.
Yeah this game rules! I just sat down and played a couple weeks ago and beat it a couple days ago and I loved it. I pre ordered it and everything but was annoyed by Twitter being Twitter and I gotta say I can’t wait to platinum it! And for a sequel!! By the end I was really invested in the lore!
@@asfandope facts! Yeah I don’t let them factor into what I buy but it does suck seeing negativity only on the things you like so now that I can interact with people who are uhm not insane is super nice! lol
Great summary, thanks. I normally don`t play those kinds of games. But there was a demo and as I surprisingly myself succeeded, I gave it a try. And besides the annoying jumping sections I loved the combat, the music the side quests, beautiful Eve and collecting cans and outfits was really fun. And that is all I want from a game, fun and bringing distance to the ugliness of the world.
Mostly agree with this fair review, except: the gun is very useful outside the labs, to drag individual monsters towards one when a group looks too much to handle, also to kill turrets. I liked the story and the characters: then again I am British so like many Asians I find excessive displays of emotion childish. For me Eve's restraint was admirable; the animators still gave you enough that you could see what she was thinking as she gradually realised the truth about her condition as an android. Much better than the usual OTT Hollywood treatment. Outstanding value for money entertainment. May have helped that this was my first console game so I was not constantly comparing it with something else.
@@unreasonable3589 yep I've since changed my mind about the gun since someone here in the comments suggested I change my build and now the gun is super usable. Also interesting take, I've been raised on anime thanks to a mostly anime obsessed family so I guess it didn't hit as much for me, that's why I initially felt Eve as a little stiff. I can definitely appreciate her character development though.
Loved this game. Although the English dialogue and story where the only things holding it back for me, I have to give them a pass for this being the studios first ever console game
Adam is none other than Raphael Marx, the creator of Mother Sphere and Andro-Eidos. And the best part of the game takes place at Raphael Space Center. Btw, from Shift Up own words, DLC and sequel are on the way.
i can't even remember the last time i ever tried a demo cos i was so intrigued, usually they lock these now behind a pre-order or some other BS so it's been well over a decade. This is the first ever product i pre-ordered after playing said demo cos i was so sold. P.T. might've been the last demo i ever tried but anyway i don't want to open that wound, i just love how confident they were that they blessed us with an hour long demo. 2 hours if you glitched it lol...some played for more than 50...hopefully grinding to make it easier on themselves. Can't wait what Shift Up cooks up next fr, them and Mundfish are the only devs i'm interested at the moment
Like I keep saying, we need to make Stellar Blade win game of the year (GOTY) Why? The add attractive looking character in the game, something that western developers refuse to do. This game has been receiving knockback by people that don`t like the game coz of the way Eve looks (which is bloody stupid) but despite that the game has been successful. Kim Hung Tae has done an amazing job with this game, him and the team has put so much effort into the game like the lip sick between the English and the Korean version are completely different. And remember, they didn`t have to do this. They have been giving out free DLCs. They have given us over 30 outfits, what other game does that? The fact they made a hack & slash game in my eyes (which has been in the decline for some years now) is amazing. This if their first time making a console game and for the most part it`s a sucsess. They didn`t just make a boring souls-like, they mixed it up with hack & slash elements, bringing people they like those genres to their game which was very smart of them. For the most part, they listen to want the fans want/ask for. I know people want to choose final fantasy or dragon`s dogma to win GOTY however if one of those games win, nothing will change and no statement will be made. We need to make a statement to developers that what Shift Up are doing is what we want in videogames. Now if you like the other two game but don`t like Stellar blade that`s understandable however if you like those game and Stellar Blade I ask you to choose Stellar Blade for GOTY. If you want game developers to buck up their ideas Stellar Blade needs to win it.
It's definitely up there in my GOTY nominees, though following Final Fantasy 7 is gonna be hard. And you're right about the gameplay I completely agree about it being a generous amount of hack n slash. Those were my favourite games growing up. Western studios have just been extremely hit or miss so it's nice to see more eastern studios pushing back against the more greedy mindsets and generally giving players what they want.
@@asfandope I don`t like souls games due to the boring, button mashing combat but with Stellar Blade it combines souls-like elements with hack & slash melee combat that is why I like it, if more games did that I won`t mind it. (you could say Phantom Blade does that) My first hack & slash game was Sonic Unleashed back in 2008 and since you like hack & slash games. Here are some H&S games you can check out: Yasuke A Lost Descendent Soulstice Valkyrie Elysium Wanted: Dead Etenights Stella Blade Project DT Project M Lost Soul Aside Phantom Hellcat Arise of Awakener Granblue Fantasy Relink Shred & Tear: Explosive Kajun Phantom Blade SuperSimmer Astor: Blade of the Monolith Captain Blood H&S game have been in the decline for some years but now more are being made, I'm so glad to see more of them. Shouts out to hack & slash games, they are making a comeback.
i never played nier, so i dont have that comparison. yet i played other games and for me this was the best experiece in quite some time, i just restarted, the hard mode giving some more challenge is something i didnt hear you mention. having a beautiful character helps this feeling of "i want to make it perfect", which for me meant that i went for all collectibles. this was also super interesting to me
@@ElDonDanny88 yes I probably should've mentioned that as well, though I rarely encountered a serious challenge outside of a few bosses that were tougher
Great review. Sudded but about her character being bland, I actually liked how calm and composed she was unlike other game protagonists who tend to be too emotional and vocal.
@@sapsaree_kang yeah but that's how she initially came off to me. But after reading a bunch more about it, I'm kinda seeing the argument that she was almost childlike in her experiences so she didn't ever process human emotion before. Hence why her character seemed bland at first. She goes through a decent amount of character development though.
Because it was a collective middle finger to woke charlatan despots and their sense of entitlement. Even if the game wasn’t as good as it ended it up being (thank God it was) it still spoke for us.
a lot of people got invested up to insult the game it's dev and players who like it that they forgot that the game isn't just have hot characters it's also a pretty fun and solid game ,it might not reinventing the wheel doesn't mean it's bad a good game can be that without doing it, I honestly agree with people who stood up against censorship, it kills art and especially for 18+ game it's unnecessary p.s- I actually like enemy designs more than the machines in automata , good video btw
The game is missing at least another open area that is not a friggin desert, and a less abrupt third act, but has all other aspects perfectly covered. Combat is stylish, and charismatic, enemies feel unique, there is variery of situations and ambiances and doesn't leave a bad lasting taste. Isn't as massive as Cyberpunk2077 feel, but leaves you satisfied enough.
The main cast voice acting was very good; I think the only issues came from the script and translation... The side characters were pretty hit and miss tho
Just beat it yesterday. Made it to the desert after unlocking hard mode. Unfortunately, I've had it long enough from GameFly, so I've sent it back. But, I'm definitely buying this game very soon.
I bought a 65'' lg g4 oled tv (replaced a 1080 3d tv) and bought a ps5 to play this game in all it's glory but I do plan on playing other ps5 exclusive titles (im mostly pc player) and I also needed a new bluray player since my old one burned out, I have a lot of bluray movies. Currently half way through NG+ hard mode going for 100% completion and I got the secret ending (fused + lily saved) the first time. Also about Eve, she does have character...kind of a fresh fish out of water and what I would expect from a constructed human/android being. You kind of need a blank slate for her to believe in her mission...I mean, imagine if she was a hippie personality, she would say screw mother sphere, I'm gonna go smoke some weed...doesn't make sense why mother sphere would construct such a being.
This game is still fire! I don't care about haters and "controversy" about things I love in videogames. This game has it all. Top soundtrack, awesome combat aka gameplay in general, beauty environments, well done level design, fair difficulty (with options for both teams, though the hard difficulty could be harder, but that's nit-picking) and (yes, I'm about to say it) a beautiful main character to look at! And everyone skipping the game because of that last part, misses out on 90% other good things about it! Their loss, easy is that.
This was one of the better games I’ve ever played and I thought it was very interesting and good that we have an avatar that looked beautiful. The game I thought was great.🎉
you can go check this youtuber's title "eve protocol stellar blade lore" contrary to what others said, stellar blade had the most profound story i have ever heard. so why did most people think stellar's story boring? because they didnt read all the stroy notes. i thought the mother sphere was the bad one, stupid eve was doing her dirty work. but mother sphere was doing what elder naytiba programmed her to do, the prime directive for the mother sphere to obey was to protect all humans, mother sphere redefined this human definition or something like that. mother sphere logically removed this prime directive to protect humans
@@abcdef2069 I think I know which channel you're talking about, they've been breaking down the lore. I've yet to read all the notes myself (adhd brain).
i couldnt link the site, or the comment gets removed. in a nutshell raven = tormented AI who found the mother sphere's evil plot eve = brainless AI who likes to learn human values mother sphere = super adaptive rogue AI who will protect humans by eliminating humans with perfect logic adam = a super genius mad scientist believing his male DNA that can repopulate the earth back to normal oracle = repenting male AI commando
While Stellar Blade lore is good, narrative is poorly executed. Personally, if narrative is below average, I'm not interested about looking for the lore unless if I'm really bored
@@chrisdrake512 i agree they didnt implement it well, who wants to read this much sporadically. but this something empty in the back of my head kept on asking questions to fill this empty, like why androids have red blood, and not gray liquid, if not human DNA, then what kind of DNA, what war before final war, what extinction, why some androids serve humans against the mother sphere, most of all, what mother sphere's logic was it to reclassify human definition, lore explained then i started slapping my forehead.... this philosophy was more than i could chew.. totally fascinating
I don't think EVE lacks character at all, I think her character is phenomenal & Jean Park is correct in a certain way (not entirely) it's just not the character some people wanted her to be & that's nice. It's just the story could be better executed. But that's fine because SHIFT UP's focus was the gameplay & Stellar Blade's story is good & interesting enough to play. Stellar Blade does what a lot of games forgot nowadays which is make people connect naturally with the world & have a nice time playing a game without having to care about stressing your brain. To take in the fresh air, the trivial; silly & yet special moments where you can feel the game, it's a mood.

@@MrLightlike78 exactly my thoughts
For me stellar blade was awesome, it had everything that a game needs a memorable main character, awesome world design, fun game play, and finally a decent story, my favorite part of the game was finding all the outfit you can wear, mainly because the outfits are very stylish and cool, heck I beat the game three times back to back, since I wanted all the endings and got the platinum too, looking forward to what's next for eve

It stood up to the dei people.

I would say that they stood on what they believed in more than anything. DEI had nothing to do with it. Just tell your story and follow your gut.

@@dony2852 that's interesting, I wonder what the ESG reports will reveal
Yup. Riddled with bugs. Broken on release. Filled to the brim with “micro” transactions and live service garbage, cut content, censorship and ESG garbage.
Microtransactions is a choice. Like doing drugs .
Currently playing through this and I'm in love. Shift Up did a great job.
@@gtPacheko seriously I'm still playing it, and it kicks ass
Yep. I'm going through ng+ now 👌
I pre-ordered this game.
@@SIPEROTH that's some crazy dedication, I can respect that
@SIPEROTH I'd suggest looking up Optinoobs video guide on Stellar blade. He guided me through the entire game to platinum in 38 hours.
To some, the censorship is miniscule, but we who fought against it did so because we do not want further censorship in our games and this game was promised to be uncensored upon release. They eventually release new outfits that looked like the original uncensored versions so we know us customers have been heard.
@@revolcane true that
We are sick of censorship, and we don't want to lose games because of those whiny few
So even if they come with a censorship after years like in FF8, F... them.

Ever since I beat Sekiro, I’ve had an itch for that combat style that no game could scratch. This game not only delivered on that combat system but did it with beautiful visuals as well as music that I can only describe as immaculate. I don’t care what anyone says, this is game of the year for me.

@@youngmasterzhi after hearing other people say the same thing, I've come to the same conclusion
I got Stellar Blade for the hack and Slash, and it delivered perfectly and as well for the plot
Pro: Amazing combat, gorgeous visuals, good story, fun character customization options and Eve as a Video Game Waifu (Raven a close 2nd)
Con: The fucking voice acting (Raven was the best voice imo, Adam was hands down the worst)
Once I switched over to the korean voice acting, even that con went out so overall a pretty solid game.

@@mmd11_ the only agenda this time was fun ☺️
I'm thankful that I felt more excited about Stellar Blade than any upcoming Ubisoft games

***SPOILERS***
Her scene after the Raven fight made me like her that much more. She was just a total badass, really showing her emotions and had some great lines.
As Raven begs her to kill her, Eve is like "Nah, you're gonna live in agony and watch as I f everything up". Chef's kiss.
@@HellzAssassn yeah I have grown to appreciate her voice acting more now though.
I'm glad to hear that, I was rooting for this game when I first saw the demo. And I'm glad it's gotten so much love and attention
I assumed you were a big youtuber cause this is very well made.
@@MccandlessH ayyyy thanks man. Hopefully I'll get there one day 😜
Like fellow Korean-developed game Lies of P, Stellar Blade was a strongly needed title in this triple AAA woke disaster environment Western gaming companies have been throwing at us lately.
I feel like DEI is like salt...too much and you're gonna ruin the dish. And don't just add it for DEI's sake, let it serve a purpose.
Stellar Blade is a masterpiece. I'm not just saying that as a fan. I truly believe this.

@@lock8030 seriously tho...
(Again, that was with the Korean voice acting. Maybe the English Voiceover was a completely different vibe)
I fell in love with Stellar Blade when shown in the game awards I think if I remember correctly..

Also I saw comments like they showing these sexualizing things to draw people's attention and to get sales...

@@WesMordine not a bad point, to be fair. And yes thinking about it now, it does make sense.
Also Eve is an Android so her being bland also kind of makes sense
I'm playing through the game right now and I think I understand what the problem is with traversal and platforming: Shift Up made it so that EVE will automatically climb over low terrain inclines and railings, even when what's on the other side is a bottomless pit.
Perhaps they should've tackled this issue like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance did and only let the character do that when she's sprinting at full speed, or alternatively handle it like Metal Gear Solid V, where you could hold down the interact button (which in this case would be R2) to automatically clear out obstacles in the way.

Watched a lot of streamers getting overwhelmed by enemies when they could have just popped one with the gun and waited for it to come to them. Then rince and repeat for the rest of the group of enemies. It is also handy for removing environmental hazards, taking out turrets and doing puzzles.

Like I keep saying, we need to make Stellar Blade win game of the year (GOTY)
Why?
(you could say Phantom Blade does that)
My first hack & slash game was Sonic Unleashed back in 2008 and since you like hack & slash games.
Here are some H&S games you can check out:
Yasuke A Lost Descendent
Soulstice
Valkyrie Elysium
Wanted: Dead
Etenights
Stella Blade
Project DT
Project M
Lost Soul Aside
Phantom Hellcat
Arise of Awakener
Granblue Fantasy Relink
Shred & Tear: Explosive Kajun
Phantom Blade
SuperSimmer
Astor: Blade of the Monolith
Captain Blood
H&S game have been in the decline for some years but now more are being made, I'm so glad to see more of them.
Shouts out to hack & slash games, they are making a comeback.
agreed thumbs up
i never played nier, so i dont have that comparison. yet i played other games and for me this was the best experiece in quite some time, i just restarted, the hard mode giving some more challenge is something i didnt hear you mention.
having a beautiful character helps this feeling of "i want to make it perfect", which for me meant that i went for all collectibles. this was also super interesting to me
@@ElDonDanny88 yes I probably should've mentioned that as well, though I rarely encountered a serious challenge outside of a few bosses that were tougher
Great video!! New subscriber
@@franks.3119 ayyy welcome to the club
This game is gorgeous. This is what I would pay to play.
Shift Up's Stellar Blade is a great reminder that games can just be games instead of $9.99 battle passes. 9/10; would recommend to humanity again. 😌👍🌟
Because it was a collective middle finger to woke charlatan despots and their sense of entitlement. Even if the game wasn’t as good as it ended it up being (thank God it was) it still spoke for us.
The game was great. The gameplay is S tier, and I appreciate the focus by the devs.

a lot of people got invested up to insult the game it's dev and players who like it that they forgot that the game isn't just have hot characters it's also a pretty fun and solid game ,it might not reinventing the wheel doesn't mean it's bad a good game can be that without doing it, I honestly agree with people who stood up against censorship, it kills art and especially for 18+ game it's unnecessary
p.s- I actually like enemy designs more than the machines in automata , good video btw
@@RETROGRADE3438 yeah I definitely think they made a smart decision hiring Hee-Cheol Jang to design the naytibas
This game actually surprised me. It is awesome! The combat is awesome. Shift Up did a great job with this one.
@@santitabnavascues8673 I agree with you. And yes Cyberpunk is an absolute masterpiece, and actually the topic of my next video.
I'm personally saving up to get a steel book of it for my collection.
@@asfandope I own it now! Not the steenbok, but still great to have it physically.
@@dapperfan44 I can imagine
Bought a PS5 for this. Played for about 40 something hours. Havent touched the PS5 since then. NO RAGRETS.
@@windknight111 that's some dedication, glad you enjoyed it
I bought a 65'' lg g4 oled tv (replaced a 1080 3d tv) and bought a ps5 to play this game in all it's glory but I do plan on playing other ps5 exclusive titles (im mostly pc player) and I also needed a new bluray player since my old one burned out, I have a lot of bluray movies.
@@halacron1 yeah I feel you about the character now in hindsight
This game is still fire! I don't care about haters and "controversy" about things I love in videogames. This game has it all. Top soundtrack, awesome combat aka gameplay in general, beauty environments, well done level design, fair difficulty (with options for both teams, though the hard difficulty could be harder, but that's nit-picking) and (yes, I'm about to say it) a beautiful main character to look at! And everyone skipping the game because of that last part, misses out on 90% other good things about it! Their loss, easy is that.
definitely their loss, game's a gem. Well polished, no MTX, baller soundtrack and a gameplay loop that leaves you satisfied and wanting more.
Honestly this should have been GOTY! It’s much better than Wukong in sense of gameplay.
This was one of the better games I’ve ever played and I thought it was very interesting and good that we have an avatar that looked beautiful. The game I thought was great.🎉
@@markvanderbur5521 ayy same here
you can go check this youtuber's title "eve protocol stellar blade lore" contrary to what others said, stellar blade had the most profound story i have ever heard. so why did most people think stellar's story boring? because they didnt read all the stroy notes. i thought the mother sphere was the bad one, stupid eve was doing her dirty work. but mother sphere was doing what elder naytiba programmed her to do, the prime directive for the mother sphere to obey was to protect all humans, mother sphere redefined this human definition or something like that. mother sphere logically removed this prime directive to protect humans
@@abcdef2069 I think I know which channel you're talking about, they've been breaking down the lore. I've yet to read all the notes myself (adhd brain).
i couldnt link the site, or the comment gets removed.
in a nutshell
raven = tormented AI who found the mother sphere's evil plot
eve = brainless AI who likes to learn human values
mother sphere = super adaptive rogue AI who will protect humans by eliminating humans with perfect logic
adam = a super genius mad scientist believing his male DNA that can repopulate the earth back to normal
oracle = repenting male AI commando
