I LOVE this ride, I always found it relaxing, which makes most people think I'm a bit nuts, but it's rhythmic, almost rocking, & I always said since I was born upside down, I must like to stay that way! lol THANKS for the video; I'm not well enough to travel anymore, so this is a nice memory. I think the volcano bit is sorta dumb, but the ride is epic!
I'm from just outside McKeesport, just 15 minutes from Kennywood :) . I try to go at least 3 times a year. This year I've made it 4 times, and I plan on going to at least one fright night. It helps when you live so close. My favorite is still the Thunderbolt but I'm a little partial to it as that is the ride I worked on for all 6 of my years at the park.
I remember when i first rode the enterprise at Kennywood i was about 9 and i was scared and i cried but once the named changed to volcano in 2003 i learned to get used to it as i got older but i miss the ride in general
yes! You are absolutely right...it was the popover! My memory is fading me as I am now 51and can't remember as clearly these things. Where did you grow up? I am from Springdale, still there, and we just went last Friday. My kids and I love Kennywood! My 13 year old son and I love the Volcano! John
This is part 2 of 3I'm 51 yrs old and don't remember anything else being where the Paratrooper is now. When I was younger they had one called the Skydiver. I can't say for sure if its the same exact ride as what they have now but it was the same type of ride, that I do remember. So that accident with the Popover is probably what you're thinking of. I don't think the Enterprise is anywhere near 40 yrs old yet.
I think that it is true. I was a little kid about 40 years ago and the Enterprise was pretty new, it was first located down where the paratrooper is now. A girl somehow opened the cage and fell out.
Mr Noah, I wish I could answer your questions about the years these were filmed. Its honestly been so long ago that I can't remember. I'm not even sure what year they changed the Enterprise in the Volcano. But I do think that the Enterprise was taped near the last year before the change and the Volcano was filmed shortly after. Sorry that I can't be more accurate.
After being a maintenance PITA for the past couple of seasons this model has been retired after about 40 years of service. It is being replaced with a "younger" model from Lake Compounce for the 2016 season.
@kttoshok Not sure what gate you are talking about. But the rides actual name is "Enterprise" and Kennywood had used that name for most of the existance of this ride at the park. The park had decided to theme the area that it sits in as Volcano Valley and hence changed their name of the ride to "Volcano".
@11linklover Not really sure of the exact reason, but since they themed the area surrounding it and named it Volcano Valley and with this being the major ride in the area, I guess thats why they decided to call it that. But don't quote me on that :)
They are not planning on closing Kennywood, oh heaven forbid. But there is a foreign company wanting to buy KP and all its parks. They said they would keep things as is. Thats the good news. But as of now 5-5-08 the sale has not gone through.
i have a question. is it ture that someone died on the enterprise cause one of the cars flew off and thats why they re did it and named it the volcano? i heard that but i am not sure if its ture.
This is part 1 of a 2 part answer. orig answ is too long. I know what youre speaking about. There was a ride called the "Popover". It was a ride that had cages that spun on their axis. The ride itself is upright like a ferris wheel, didn't go up and down like the Enterprise. There was a person, possbily a girl that fell out of that ride and died. I had a friend that told me that he was at the park that day and actually saw it happen, YUCK. That ride was located where the Kangaroo is now.
OMG! I adore the ride Volcanoe!!!! I go on every year with my dad!!! This is my favorite ride in all of Kennywood, I also like the Music Express.
When this ride revs up the sound it makes is badasss.
Yes the signature Huss humming sound. Love it, all their rides have it, but Enterprise and Tornado have the best ones
I am so thankful for this video because no matter what I still call it the Enterprise.
Final part. I believe they got that ride when I worked in the park and I worked there from '76 to '81. Man that makes me feel old
One of my favorites 😍
I love how gravity is your safty belt. At first, when my friend told me that, I was all like, ohh shii..... then all like YESH!

I went to Kennywood last week and the Volcano was closed. And it still is according to the website. Cool to see what it does though.

@DJMattMX That building in the background is the Park's office. So don't look for it to change any time soon :) .

@anglerfly Yes the Volcano is the Enterprise, just with a different name
This has been replaced with Spinvasion, a Zemperla Gryphon which is the first of it's kind the U.S. for Kennywood's 125th season in 2023.

@PieMe444 they didnt scrap it, they sent it to Idawild, just like the did the ferris wheel, the caterpillar, and the wild mouse years ago
well im glad its not ture then cause that would have been horrible :/ and i feel alot safer now cause i always go on that ride and i love it :)
me and my friend were gonna go on it but neither of us were tall enough ):

its a national land mark they cant tear it down
i have a question. is it ture that someone died on the enterprise cause one of the cars flew off and thats why they re did it and named it the volcano? i heard that but i am not sure if its ture.
@7771Thebestfriends1 they did have the round-up but they scrapped it
wow cool
What year was the Enterprise Part Filmed? And the Volcano Part Filmed?
HEY. Why do they call it volcano if the gate says somthing else. Its not that hard to make a sign that says VOLCANO.
What kind of seatbelts are in that?
There aren't any, you stick to your seat from the centripetal force.
there not gonna change it alot!
when did it converte
Is the Volcano now closed in 2010? I heard it was...
The sale hasn't even happened yet, and it might not. Why not educate yourself before you complain. Kennywood's going to be just fine.
