  • So who remembers Playdays? I think it's one of those shows that, even if it didn't fall in your particular era, you're likely still aware of it. But if it was of your era, I expect the show means every bit as much to you as Play School means to me. It was always intended as basically a direct successor, and it's clear to see that it ticks all of the boxes needed to be the sort of classic that instantly takes you back.
This particular episode is presented by legend that is Dave Benson Phillips, with traffic directed by Why Bird (you'll see what I mean). We're focusing on wheels, so we get to see scooters, tractors, cars, rollerblades, and, of course, buses. Also a "three-wheeled bike", which I'm pretty sure is a contradiction in terms. We sing The Wheels on the Bus, go on a quest for the biggest wheel of all, dabble in a bit of sponge painting, and then end on a story about Rabbit and Mole. I have to confess I've never heard of such a thing as a "skate bike" before, but Dave gives us a nice demo.
I'm struggling to figure out the original broadcast date of this episode - can you help? [EDIT: I'm reliably informed that it's Tuesday, 29th August, 1995 - many thanks to
MrHammadmossop1988 Ul-Haq! www.gettyimage...] As the previous show that we catch a few frames of right at the very beginning carries a 1999 date, we must be watching a repeat.
Grateful thanks to Ben for providing this recording - please take the time to check out / benriggers when you get the chance.
