Right on 👍 Thanks for checking out my new video! I have read many comments on this video from people owning the 300 version, these quads are so simple and rugged that they seem to last a very long time. 🙂
Those are very capable quads for being 250s my best friend had one and I used to ride it all the time and that thing would literally climb the side of a tree. Thanks for checking out my channel Tim! I really appreciate it 🙂 Yes these old quads are definitely rugged machines that are quite capable. Sounds like you had some fun times riding. I haven’t been down to Northern California in years, I do really like the Oak trees and rolling hills up there in California.
I paid $500 for an 87 Quadrunner just down the road, was much worse shape and has over 5k miles on it... resurrected it and it's a beast, just not quite as peppy as yours. The space in front of engine is for an optional fan that mine has, it rubber mounts to the bar on either side. I still need to figure out a winch mount like your's. Check out the Frankenstein dump cart that Mustie1 created out of one. The design makes stretching the frame relatively easy.
There famous for over heating due to the cooling fins are at a bad angle for air to flow across them. I seen people bend up some sheetmetal ramp to get the air to flow more upward across the fins. I got one also I been wanting to build a big lift and widen it for it and run like 31" truck tires on it. The suspension is super simple on them.
@@heavymetalworks6375 yes mine seems to suffer from this overheating issue, once it gets hot it’s hard to get started and I wind up running the battery down . Runs great until it gets hot, what to do about this problem?
I still have my 2 wheel drive 1991 Suzuki LTF250. I have driven it since we bought it used in 1992. I was 9 years old at the time and it was my wheelchair for the forest. I drove it until I was unable to drive it anymore. Parked it in 2013 with over 11,000 miles. I hope to be able to use it again someday. Love that quad.
i've got an 86' lt230geg shaft drive 2x4 i got from an auction for $150 at a chukker farm a couple years ago. it had spent it's life pushing bird litter out of a barn with a front mounted blade, and looked like it had never been washed ever. they had a hard time pull starting it at the auction, but it didn't sound too bad once they did. when i got it home, i fixed the cracked plastic, replaced the starter relay, gave it two baths, changed the oil, and cleaned the carb. so far it's been a really good machine for me, especially considering the price. i had to get two tires to replace the bald front ones from simple tire for $45 ea. so it would steer. i think it does a good job pushing snow with 200 lbs. on the rear luggage rack, and tears up the trails i ride on. best $150 i've spent in a while.
I have owned 4 of these(300cc King Quad Version), still have 2 today, they are awesome machines. I converted mine to run the front diff locked at any speed, of course that requires some care, but a nice option.
Once saw a whole elk about 700 lbs driver and extra rider. On one of those. The rider was about 150 and rider 250. They were coming out of a pretty steep area. There was no stopping that model.
I bought a 94 Kingquad about a year and a half ago. Very similar to the Quadrunner but with a 300cc motor. I totally agree with you on the quirky awesomeness of these Suzukis. I'm very glad you're not going to part it out. Great video!
I had one of those new, and loved the thing for its low gears and agility. It was slow but unstoppable. It got traded on a much bigger Yamaha 550, and it was a mistake, the little Suzuki was better in the woods. And hauled deer out of ravines and thick cover better then any ATV I've ever owned!
always a treasure since no belts to replace. those are a beast like the 3 wheeler. if you are lucky you can find the 92' 300 version !!! timing chain is the only thing needed for these old machines. and 2 parts epoxy to hold some old bolts in !!! and carb float adjustments. but besides that a few wiring harnesses !!! you grand kids will love it in the end when the belt toys break and that is still going !!! with no eletronics to run it !!! just magneto spark, air, gas and go !!!
I had an Lt 160 as a teenager and that thing went anywhere that a 2wd quad could go. Couldn't kill it. Since then I've owned a Ozark, Eiger 4x4, and now a king quad 400. I've had great luck all around.
Hey my dad got one of this same quad brand new we couldn’t kill it lol . We went everywhere with it awesome in the mud , sand dunes , water right up to the seat lol it was a lot of fun and towed a one ton box trailer behind it full of dirt it tow it no problems with all the options with all the gears and the lights worked awesome on it too and my had a six foot wide tow mower we used a lot mowing my dad 3 acre block thanks for showing this sure brought back awesome memories I wish dad never sold it I would still have it
I love those quads, my dad had one for 15 years, sold it to our nextdoor neighbour, and i have a kingquad now, it's a slightly larger version, 300 cc. They are amazing in snow, as well.
These machines a beastly. All this week I have been rebuilding mine. Parts are a little hard to scrounge up, but still have new pistons and valves out there. Great quads.
Oh a vertical climb with no trail...no drama like a Sunday walk to church 🤣👍. Dude that thing is unstoppable I want one thanks for sharing just how good this machine is😃
I have known this secret for years. I bought a Quadrunner 250 in 2008. I had a Yamaha Big Bear 400 already. I originally bought the smaller 250 for my sons to ride. The Big Bear don't even come close to the capabilities of the little Suzuki. Once the boy got bigger I put them on the Yamaha and made the Suzuki my own. Still have it and still love it. It's never the fastest quad on a trail ride. But it's the one that ALWAYS makes it to the top.
Wow, at about the 9:00 minute mark, it just climbed that hill like a goat. Really impressive. I remember one of my family members used to own one of these on the farm in the woods. A good workhorse too. Good video again, thanks Mike Festiva!
I had one of these for years. They’re light and nimble. They fit through spots most other ATVs won’t. Not at all fast, but will go just about anywhere. I plowed snow with it on my 1/4 driveway. I now have a 500 King Quad, but I wish I still had that 250.
Good to see lots of love for those things. I have one. I don't do the trail-riding thing. Mine is my workhorse. I have worked it much harder than I should and it keeps going. Put that thing in super low range and lock the diff.. no one will tell me it isn't a capable machine. And Joel Bergström (in the comments) is right in that if you run it slow and work it hard.. get a fan. Good video.
Great video, and your property also looks like an awesome place. I have owned several quadrunner and king quads. Most of them bought with minor mechanical issues, one complete rebuild. Currently i have a 2002 king quad 300, one of the last of this style of atv. These are such underrated little atv's. They lack a little power compared to a 300 honda, but they make up for it with features. Being able to play in 2wd and then get yourself out with 4wd is so much fun. And then the locking front diff means you arent leaning over the handle bars trying to get the front tire to get traction when its up in the air. Super low is low enough that you'll probably break something or lose traction before you run out of power. The little suzuki engines start good and they are super smooth even at high rpm. The real hidden gem in these machines is the engine/transaxle built together. It is a more robust design than having a separate diff. I also currently have a 98 arctic cat 300, which uses the same suzuki engine/transaxle. One thing I will mention that is the only real downfall of the 250 quadrunner like you have is that they did not come with an external oil cooler. The ones i have had will get hot after a long ride, especially on a hot day. The king quad 300 came with an oil cooler and never had that issue. If you find yourself having that problem, you can buy the clutch side engine cover from a king quad 300 and add some lines and an oil cooler. Otherwise, just enjoy it, because its probably got another 20-30 years in it!
I have a 2001 lt250- 4x4 and its a tank. Slow and steady but will never stop chugging even over the harshest trails. The fourtrax's often have trouble keeping up.
Same exact experience I had. My friend picked one up cheap, and we didn’t think much of it because it sort of funky and was a 250 when our other quads were a mix of 600, 660, and 800cc. But it really proved itself as a very capable and fun machine and won me over. Plus, it was far more efficient with fuel than the big quads. Loved all the gears and front locker!
I have a 97 honda fourtrax my self i love it. I just bought one of these quadrunners cuz i hear these fourwheel drives r like yhe caddys of 4 wheel drive of quads. It just needs a carb n im good to go. So i cant wait to see the difference
North West Ohio: Mike these Suzuki's are awesome. My first was a late 90's 280 King Quad. I need to clean the carb now. It's been sitting. Beast will go through mud over the seat. My dad gave me his 2001 300 King Quad. Been sitting awhile needs carb cleaned too. My newest 2001 300 King quad just needs the starter replaced now. I got it for working on my buddies Dodge diesel truck a few years ago.
Really like it Mike! Your quad/dump build is what got me hooked on your channel in the first place. Looking forward to seeing how you refurb this. Thanks again, solid video!
Thank you for the video man! I just recently traded a running Husqvarna 54" mower for a 250 Quad runner and the thing is beat up. Wasn't sure if I was even going to fix it up to ride bc there's wiring that is trash, missing screws all over the plastics, the headlights are gone, needs a starter and battery and that's as far as I know of at the moment.
I’m sure you will be able to get it running again, they are pretty cool quads, you will have a blast with it once you get it running again. Keep me posted on your progress on that 250 man 😊👍
A friend of mine had one of those back in the 90's and we called it the Frankenstein. It did really well in the woods keeping up with my Honda Foreman.
Mike, I LOVE your channel!! Ok, I’m going to make you a deal, you don’t tell me what safety gear to wear and I won’t tell you what to wear! You do you and I’ll do me! You keep making cool videos and I’ll keep watching them. LOL!! 👍🏼👍🏼
A lot of respect for not destroying a perfectly nice quad. Japanese quads were not meant to deteriorate soon. They're not a cash cow like Polaris or something. As well, a lot of them are collectible.
I picked up 6 of those. Slowly been repairing and selling them. They have their benefits, but for faster riding on hard ground I love my Yamaha. Also have a Polaris magnum 500 and Arctic cat 500 I can’t wait to try
I live in NW Oregon and this video reminds me of growing up playing around on a four trax 300 4x4 such good times..I like trucks and newer quads still but the old days in the older bikes started the obsession
We had one of those when i was a kid on my parents farm, i had a blast with it, driving around trying to get it stuck in some swamp, it was great as a working tools as well, hauling logs or or getting fence posts to the field. One thing you may consider is a fan in front of the engine as it's air cooled and may get over heated, in the day this was a stock assissory. Actually been looking for one the last couple of month.
Thanks for checking out my new video Peter 👍 like you mentioned the fan sounds like a good idea. I have had a lot of people mention this video has really reminded them of story’s growing up as kids playing and working on there land, really nice to hear. I hope you find one soon!
They were good little machines Im a Honda Guy myself also but I knew some Guys that had a Suzuki like yours. They did good out riding. I had one of the first 4x4 Honda ever made it was the 350 full time fourwheel drive. One front wheel would kick out when turning. It was a Tank. Great Video Mike Thank You for sharing...
That’s really cool, I’ve always really liked Suzukis myself, I’ve had quite a few over the years and they’ve all been good but I didn’t even know they made a 4x4 quad back then
One of the best mods for these is free - remove the lockout pin from the console shifter assembly so that you can lock the front differential regardless of what range you select.
Nice! I've never had a 4-wheeler, but always thought they were neat. It's cool to see the funky stuff that makes this one such a beast off-road. Cool stuff as always!
I picked up a 98 King Quad, it was the first time I'd seen one with a foot shifter with 5 speeds. Its like riding my bike again, lol. It is nice having 3 ranges, locking diff, etc.. might be old(younger than yours though), Suzuki made a decent Quad, even back then. Good luck, hope you enjoy it, Im more then happy with mine.
Great video. Buddy of mine had an older King Quad. Man that thing was sweet. Unstoppable just like this LT you have. I still kick myself that I didn't buy the one I found on Craigslist a long time ago. Looking forward to the comparo vid, should be fun. Hope all is well Mike.
You got a real deal there. I bought a new Suzuki LT in '86 or '87 , paid $3000 and I know without a doubt I put upwards of 50,000 miles on it and the only thing other than tires that I had to spend anything on was starter brushes X 2. I sold it to my Brother just 3 or 4 years ago and it was still keeping on, never left me anywhere. I don't think they made one that was as versatile and dependable as the Suzuki LT's. I bought a used King Quad 300 about 7 or 8 years ago and it will never be able to keep up with this. The 250 and 300 look almost like twins, but the 300 has a much bigger turning radius and that is very unhandy. I think when you've had time to weigh the pros and cons, you will see that the Zuki is light years ahead of Hondas and Polaris and any others in that size. Suzuki spent a lot more time and effort to build the best, and it turns out that they won. Put good gas in it and ride, you'll never regret buying it.
Down through the past 56years I've owned a quad or two from 90cc up to 1000cc and I have found out that the lighterweight 250-300ccs are the best for me,plus as a bonus they're easier and a lot cheaper to work on or buy parts for plus seem to be the most reliable of the several dozen different quads I've had... Love my 300 and 350 Hondas but that solid front axle gets hung up a lot more than the ifs ever will..
I throughly enjoyed the video , thank you. I'm really interested in anything you have to say about quads. I own a TRX 250 Honda. It's not 4WD but I love it . Thank you very much. Regards Gareth Wiltshire UK. Gratitude. Quality. Respect.
Man.. what a find. I've never seen a cheap 250 with these features. It's usually on a full sized 700 that's decked out and expensive. This thing is cool.
I have a lt250f with a bent frame I want to fix up. Trying to source a frame. Loved the 300 kind quad on the farm. Just awesome work horses. Fun to trail with too.
I had a 94-95 quad runner and blue color..it was a beast to say the least.had shaft drive on it which I never had problems with..I had over 420 miles on it and it still ran awesome
I have had this mtn goat since new in 94'. It has just been a snow plow rig at the house. It is having some issues. Lots of smoke and last snow was dying after getting hot. I was thinking a cooling fan would be a good idea. This snow today it is smoking bad and seems to not have any power. I think the rings are stuck or a valve. It got super overheated once when a young rider didn't know how to upshift it. As far as climbing it is amazing in diff lock low. It just digs it's way through snow drifts and climbs up amazingly steep hills. Also the low gear was good for steep downhills. Several times it was so steep down those upper foot pads were golden.
@@Mikefestiva I went to change oil today and lots of gas came out. I will change oil 2 times in next week and shut off gas cock from now on. Hope nothing damaged.
@@elkskiutah8204 when I first got mine and changed the oil, it seemed like it also had a lot of gas in the oil, I changed the oil and it seems fine now, I think the float in the carb probably stuck at some point.
@@Mikefestiva I will have to watch the dissembly video again. I think I tecall you must pull the engine and separate the case to get the cylinder head off? Needing the special tool you link to. I think you took apart a 300? Is the tool the same for the 94' 249cc? Can I easily get all the case and head gaskets and piston stuff? Where? This will have to be a warm weather job. It's a bit chilly in Utah next 2 months. In fact unless it's warm I can't get the boots off the carb. Are these boots still available? Where can I get a service manual?
Hey Mike, great video! I had a 91 Suzuki King Quad, little bit bigger engine (300) but same trans/diff setup. That thing was a tractor and I loved it! It wasn’t fast and was well worn out but would absolutely a blast to drive around. Wish I’d never sold it.
High price for near junk. Keep kill switch in mind.. you might hit a hidden hole & flip it. That's why I like smaller quads - easier to get out from under it. Downside of going up a steep hill - If you can't make it to top, it's spooky backing down.
They are weird looking. But, darn near unstoppable. If it's running use it. Love ours. Spent last weekend maintaining and clearing trails. It'll drive over small trees while pulling a Swisher rough cut mower. Crazy. Oh, and ours is frankenstein'd too.
Very cool. Whenever I would see these come up on Craig’s list I always thought they were so strange with the engine so far back. I really want to find a Honda 300 fourtrax some day. My first quad was a Honda sportrax 250(basically a Honda recon with sport quad plastic). That was a built proof machine. Then I got a 500 Polaris sportsman. That was ok, great AWD and comfortable but also heavy and complex. I sold both but miss the Honda. I love the older simple air cooled machines.
I was just given a 1990 LT250, in a bit worse condition than yours, had been broken down and parked out side for over 10 years. Took 15 hours work and now running great and I like it too.
Got one of those that good for parts. The engine is good but missing the front end. Also got a 300 king quad. Same basic bike but has a 350cc engine and more normal tires. The front ball joints on em like to pop out. Drill the bolt hole out and put a larger bolt in it. From the factory the bolt doesn't engage the groove in the stud enough. Also the u joints on the rear axles are really weak and the rear axles are really expensive. On mine instead of having the winch stick out the front I made a mount to put it in the open area over the front driveshaft.
I had one of those back in the day sold it when I upgraded Now I wish I'd keep it with all the ytube inspiration today especially yours I could have built myself something out of it for around the property.
My grandfather had a 1st generation King Quad. Couldn’t kill the old thing and it would tow firewood outta the woods like you wouldn’t believe. Heavy loads, steep hills, no problem…
I own a 1997 model. It is the best atv and virtually unstoppable. I think the blue handles may be on backwards but that does not effect operation. You should also have the ability to put a trailer ball on the rear. Good luck with it.
I had a few atws but my Suzuki quad was the absolute best. Just a 300cc but man i never got stuck and i most of the time had a trailer on it. And man it was fun full out on the gravel roads out on the farm. Always the right knee on the seat. I must say i do miss it. The best ever. If you find one buy it!
I will say, make sure you use the proper oil in this with all of the recommended additives. The clutch plates are pretty fragile I had that issue with mine
I really like these Suzuki’s! I was blessed to get a 97 King Quad 5 years ago for $200 that needed some work, but had less than a thousand miles on it!. I put probably $300 in to fixing it. It does seem that they get past over in favor of the Honda’s. Looking forward to your comparison video!

I hope you can get it going again too 👍
i've got an 86' lt230geg shaft drive 2x4 i got from an auction for $150 at a chukker farm a couple years ago. it had spent it's life pushing bird litter out of a barn with a front mounted blade, and looked like it had never been washed ever. they had a hard time pull starting it at the auction, but it didn't sound too bad once they did. when i got it home, i fixed the cracked plastic, replaced the starter relay, gave it two baths, changed the oil, and cleaned the carb. so far it's been a really good machine for me, especially considering the price. i had to get two tires to replace the bald front ones from simple tire for $45 ea. so it would steer. i think it does a good job pushing snow with 200 lbs. on the rear luggage rack, and tears up the trails i ride on. best $150 i've spent in a while.
This is one of the best offroad vehicles ever made, i have one from 1985, mine has full diff both front and back.
I bought a 94 Kingquad about a year and a half ago. Very similar to the Quadrunner but with a 300cc motor. I totally agree with you on the quirky awesomeness of these Suzukis. I'm very glad you're not going to part it out. Great video!
Gotta love the zip tie stitches! At least there was something resembling an air filter 🤷♂️
We went everywhere with it awesome in the mud , sand dunes , water right up to the seat lol it was a lot of fun and towed a one ton box trailer behind it full of dirt it tow it no problems with all the options with all the gears and the lights worked awesome on it too and my had a six foot wide tow mower we used a lot mowing my dad 3 acre block thanks for showing this sure brought back awesome memories I wish dad never sold it I would still have it
That’s awesome!!
I love those quads, my dad had one for 15 years, sold it to our nextdoor neighbour, and i have a kingquad now, it's a slightly larger version, 300 cc. They are amazing in snow, as well.
Your videos can go so many different ways is what keeps it all fresh, look forward to the "buyers guide!"
Appreciate you watching!!!
I had one of these for years. They’re light and nimble. They fit through spots most other ATVs won’t. Not at all fast, but will go just about anywhere. I plowed snow with it on my 1/4 driveway. I now have a 500 King Quad, but I wish I still had that 250.
I did the same exact thing with one of these. Thought I was going to use it as parts for a project, but turned out to be a cool quad
Love the Suzuki. I have a 1999 Suzuki Quad Runner, wish mine was 4x4 but it goes good enough for me. Great video and stay safe!
15 forward- and 3 reverse gears. almost like a french tank but their gearing is the other way around
Haha they definitely are a bit funky looking 😂 but man they are so good off road 👍
Thanks for checking out my new video!
I have a 97 honda fourtrax my self i love it. I just bought one of these quadrunners cuz i hear these fourwheel drives r like yhe caddys of 4 wheel drive of quads. It just needs a carb n im good to go. So i cant wait to see the difference
That’s how tough those old quads are, she’s still going. Fix her up and keep it, the classics are going up and up in price. Great machine
Looks like a fun old toy Mike. Handy machine to have around rural property.
Really like it Mike! Your quad/dump build is what got me hooked on your channel in the first place. Looking forward to seeing how you refurb this. Thanks again, solid video!
Thanks Rick! I appreciate that you have been subscribed since the quad truck series 👍 really cool to hear!
Take care 🙂
As well, a lot of them are collectible.
grew up with one of these. they are absolutely awesome
They were good little machines
Im a Honda Guy myself also but I knew some Guys that had a Suzuki like yours. They did good out riding. I had one of the first 4x4 Honda ever made it was the 350 full time fourwheel drive. One front wheel would kick out when turning. It was a Tank. Great Video Mike Thank You for sharing...
That’s really cool, I’ve always really liked Suzukis myself, I’ve had quite a few over the years and they’ve all been good but I didn’t even know they made a 4x4 quad back then
I really enjoy this little machine! It’s got a lot of good options. Thanks for checking out my new video 🙂👍
Thanks James and thanks for always watching 👍
I have a 96 300 I need to fix.Damn good 4wheelers will climb almost anything.
I had a 94 Suzuki King Quad. It was an amazing little utility machine!
Gratitude. Quality. Respect.
Looks great! I had an 86 LT185 back in the day. Great quad!
I look forward to seeing more of that Zuki! Very capable. Like a Honda CT90 with that super low range.
Man.. what a find.
I'll buy yours from u if u still have it..I just need a machine I can mess around with w.o spending a lot of 💵
Use to have a 185 Quadrunner. Traded it in on a Yamaha Warrior back in the early 90s
I love mine. I camoflodged mine up. Goes anywhere. Goes through woods great not as bulky as the new expensive ones
Yes these older Quads are much smaller and more nimble off trail in the woods. Especially these old Suzuki’s! 🙂👍
Prob needs new pistons and rings
The Honda TRX is what got me to subscribe to your channel! Love the quad builds! You should do more vids like this! Build a homemade quad!!!
I have a 92 & a 02. Love 'em both, great utility quad.
$600 for a complete 4 wheeler and a parts quad is High price? You must get paid to take stuff like this I guess 😂
I love my 98 Quadrunner. I’ve only got it stuck once in a pond full of sediment.
That is one capable little quad! Good catch. I'm looking forward to more videos about it!
Looks like a pretty tough fun machine you got there Mike. Good job on bringing it to life.
I have a 1990 quadrunner 250 and it’s a little tank, I’ve used it time and time again to drag 500-700lbs round bales out into the field for our horses
I own a 1997 model. It is the best atv and virtually unstoppable. I think the blue handles may be on backwards but that does not effect operation. You should also have the ability to put a trailer ball on the rear. Good luck with it.
Looks like a very capable machine I have ridden a similar suzuki and that one had a semi auto trans with 5 speeds it was unstoppable as well
Seems like the kind of machine that might be good at figuring out where to put new trails since it can apparently go just about where ever you want.
Definitely good for pushing in new trails!
@@Mikefestiva and a snow plow
I had a few atws but my Suzuki quad was the absolute best. Just a 300cc but man i never got stuck and i most of the time had a trailer on it. And man it was fun full out on the gravel roads out on the farm. Always the right knee on the seat. I must say i do miss it. The best ever. If you find one buy it!
I had an 01 quad runner 250. I loved it, total workhorse and would go anywhere
I will say, make sure you use the proper oil in this with all of the recommended additives. The clutch plates are pretty fragile I had that issue with mine
Hard to beat this much fun for that bargain of a price. Really nice.
I built a 4x4 EZGO golf cart out of the kingquad version of that quad. one of the easiest builds I've done, can be made to look near factory.
