Yamaha wanted a polysynth with memory of some sort. They basically brute-forced one together in what is was a very expensive endeavor in the 1970's. But it works. Fucking fantastic! The most atmospheric, beautiful, elegant and truly magnificent synthesizer being the offspring of the godmother the GX1 and the offspring the glorious mother the Yamaha CS80 though could be argued equally a godmother of a synthesiser as well.
I don't think this is what makes the CS80 sound "big". there are literally dozens and dozens and synths that could make use of a sine/triangle wave as a sub oscillator to thicken up the sound. It's gotta be the simple fact that it has two completely independent synth voices. What else?
@@josesvintagekeys would you say there's something special about the sine wave oscillator on the CS80, or the slight difference between sine and triangle that gives it more depth?
When you acquire a CS-80 you must sign a document that states you will play some music from Bladerunner every time you turn it on.

I can't believe that analog polysynth maker's (except the Alesis Andromeda) fail to put in 'add in' sine wave options.
such a shame because sine waves is such a wonderful wave.
