  • Farmers are always looking for improved approaches to fish culture that provide higher yields and lower costs. The in-pond raceway system provides this opportunity. This presentation will cover the basic IPRS technology as a practical and sustainable approach to up-date pond aquaculture. We will cover the theory as well as a practical guide to information and images for prospective IPRS adoptees. This introductory information will allow viewers to determine if they desire more detailed information leading to possible adoption.
    Dr. Jesse Chappell, recently retired from Auburn University after 19 years as an Extension specialist and professor. Prior to that he worked in the catfish industry and owned/managed multispecies (24) hatchery company. He has worked on development of In-pond Raceway Systems since 2004 and has spearheaded efforts supported by US Soy Farmers to extend the technology globally. Adoption of IPRS technology by farmers continues to be rapid even within current COVID challenges. Currently, farmers in at least 16 countries are using this sustainable approach to pond aquaculture.

    Thank you. I wanted to attend this webinar but a family emergency got in the way. A few years ago I adopted some of the basic principles that are also used in IPRS (with a few others and with some modification) to aquaponics. Works quite well. See you in San Antonio.

    Thank you so much. That was really practical information via this presentation. I heard this from Dr. Patrick sorgesloos. Now, I get the full procedure. Wonderful

    Hi,
    Thank you for the amazing presentation. I have a few questions. And I have already read the manual.
    1. We know the minimum economically viable size for iPRS is 10,000m3. However, for smaller ponds let's say 1000m2 with a depth of 3m, sometimes it might be more productive with a raceway system than any existing approaches.
    For the smaller pond like 3000m3, what could be the width and height of a raceway cell and QZ that offers good muscle exercise for the fishes and offer efficient waste cleaning?
    2. For a 3000m3 water body, how much air should we have to supply to the WWUs?
    3. If someone wants to increase the depth of their pond to let's say 5m, just using two WWUs with the chimney effect will be sufficient?
    4. Different species and sizes of fingerlings require different water flow rates. Is there any suggestion from you on how we can adjust the speed of the flow based on multiple species on the SAME raceway cell (they are in different confinement areas in the same raceway cell)
    Thanks in advance.

    How much would it cost me for a complete setup at 1acre land?

    Great video. I would love to add this system to my grow beds. Aquaponics.
    Just trying to understand. Movement of water is only done by regenerative blower? No pumps?

    • @clinedj1
      @clinedj1  6 месяцев назад

      That is correct water movement in the pond is created by the airlifts. There are some systems that use a suction from a water pump to "vacuum" solids from the bottom of the raceway and put them into a settling tank outside of the pond. The once the solids settle, the clear water can be used in aquaponics. You can find an In-pond raceway manual at ussec.org/ussec-in-pond-raceway-systems/
