Very sad, when my dads job moved from Peterborough to Hotpoint in Swinton we moved with it. Bought a house up Racecourse Road but it wasn't ready so we rented the rooms at the thin end of the Ship from Audrey and Melvin....lived there for about 3 months. Later on my mum cooked Sunday roasts there...Then when I was 17/18 used to go every weekend....a lot of memories, lot of friends...lot of good times... Lived there in 1970 as a 6 year old and drank there in the early 80s
What a shame to see this pub being knocked down. I used to come from Wath just to go to this pub to listen to some Jazz. Mind you that was 45 years ago what a great pub it was then. Cheers to all who sailed in her. Another one gone progress i suppose. All the best..
Sad to see, this pub once featured in an episode of “I Didn’t Know You Cared”, a classic sitcom on BBC1. Probably now luxury apartments with a view of the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal.
