I had the same story before with a $700 purchase. I found a better deal and canceled it 5 seconds after I ordered. They sent it anyways and so when it arrived I returned it at the door. The package was never in my custody. It was sent back and they never sent a refund and refused to over a month span. I started a three way call with my bank and got the issue resolved. Their excuse was that it was stuck in shipping and was my fault. You may need to do the same through your bank and I recommend doing so.
I ordered my Phantex P300a mesh case from them, it got lost in transit for a few days. I filed a missing claim and ordered from amazon. I ended up with 2 cases, because I thought I would never receive the case from newegg. I ended up selling the extra case. I had one bad experience, now I am not buying from them again. Never had any issues from amazon, I had an ssd that I bought from amazon, it died 1 week after use. I sent it back and got a refund no questions asked. I will be doing my shopping on amazon from now on
I used their mobile app today (UK based). Clicked on their 'Build configurator' .. selected 'Enthusiast (from £3400ish)' .. then selected 'Intel'.. I was then presented with a template 'list' of components. It had a GTX 1650 (@ £279 or so). WTF..... !!!! Where's all the cost.... oh on some 2TB 'solution' costing £1900 ish..... Whhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!
They are owned by the Chinese Communist Party via Lianlou Smart Limited, and Newegg is the 800 pound guerrilla in tech shopping unless you, by some act of God, have a Microcenter nearby. Newegg needs to be broken up under anti-competitive laws.
@@RinnosukeETQW Yes. Go watch the clips from the wan show when they spoke about teamviewer's subscription license panhandling on perpetual-license customers. it's gold.
Also, teeth. If this happened to Linus he's probably have been like 'ehh, whats one motherboard or 500$' Its the same amount of money and the same motherboard to Steve, but Steve has TEETH, and he stands by his values, he isnt too busy making low effort overused jokes in throwaway videos to care about this
A lot of times this comes from the higher-ups or owners of the company not caring. This trickles down all the way to the bottom of the chain. Even if the lower level employees themselves care about the customers.. they're told to focus on other things involving making money.
Welcome to capitalism. That's how all corporations work. "Oh shit, they have a platform and hundreds of thousands (or millions) of viewers? Quick! Make it look like we care!"
I love how when Steve starts getting really heated there’s a cut. There’s footage somewhere of this man really telling Newegg in detail where they can put that $500.
Right in the middle of the Conclusion section, they should've cut in two seconds of Steve unbuckling his belt while squatting over over a printout of the the RMA email while he screams "THIS IS WHAT I THINK YOU LYING PI--" and then cut right back to the rest of the conclusion.
I'm actually impressed that one guy on twitter thinks its reasonable to make a postman wait well you open a product and look it all over. His postmen must hate him
It's one thing to have a quick look over the box to make sure it doesn't have massive dents or holes in it, but it's a whole other to have them wait while you check if the product works.
@@gnomeam I took down the sign instructing to ring the doorbell for deliveries, because not one person rang the doorbell. Like hell the postman is gonna hang around supervising me to open and inspect a delivery item.
Thank you Steve. These companies would be perfectly happy doing this to regular people. Little did they know they fucked up doing this to a prominent PC media outlet.
100%. They thought they were doing a routine ripoff return denial to a "regular" customer, but landed on a business that specializes in this stuff. So upsetting that they do this to people with little recourse.
@@GamersNexus Hate to say it, but they wont care about this. They'll issue the standard 'misunderstanding/mistake/sorry/circumstances dictated' message and continue this crap. I'd bet money on it. The only people that are even seeing your video, tweet, or anything are PR, account managers, or other mid level people that are going about their daily salaried jobs. It probably isn't even reported to VP's. The C-levels probably don't even know what 'Gamers Nexus' is.
I was working as a customer service rep for Newegg a few years back when the brand new X399 motherboard that I bought from them was rejected by the RMA department manager himself. He said the pins of the USB port were bent upon inspection. But I never even took the motherboard out of the box. One of his tech guys told me he didn't like the fact that I was returning a MSI mb for an ASUS mb, and that I, as an employee of the company, was taking advantage of his department. If they can treat their own employees like that, what kind of recourse does a regular customer have?
@@notagooglesimp8722 Actually, that's the opposite. Newegg was founded by a Taiwanese, he then took the company public in the NYSE. The owner/major shareholder spends most of his time in Taiwan and China. But the main US and Canadian operation is run by Americans. In fact, the guy who took over fired the VP of operations and the manager who rejected my RMA and laid off a bunch of customer service reps. That was back in 2018. Things may have changed again by now.
"Hold on, delivery guy - I need to make sure it POSTs! I just need to apply the thermal paste, mount the CPU and cooler, and stick some ram in it, and wait for the other delivery guy to bring the PSU"
Its interesting. When it comes to a delivery service to a residential or a postman service, it's impolite. But when it comes to logistics of major commerce; like shipper receiver and carrier, its okay. That is why carriers charge a fee for wait time to unload a product. The product often times has to be counted and inspected before it is accepted. It's interesting how the industry is set up so that the consumer doesn't really have the same option. The only reason is money. Time is money. And the delivery person has a time quota. Thats the only problem. It's just interesting how it is and how most people think about it. I don't have an opinion on the matter. It's just interesting.
This is unacceptable. When they sell "Open Box" items, Newegg should definitely take photos of that opened item as proof of it's condition before selling it. I no longer plan to buy from Newegg from this video.
They also sell open box or used items as new, I suspect (happened to me a few years ago, doubt it was accident). Especially motherboards, but possibly anything else without a manufacturer seal.
It isn't just NewEgg, I bought a supposedly new 5600XT from a shop in Australia (before prices got crazy). When I opened the box the anti static bag seal was broken, the card was scuffed and it didn't work properly - overheated and blue screened constantly. Luckily they didn't argue over me returning it and sent me a working replacement after a few weeks.
I'm a seller on Ebay with like three sold items ever, and even I would document the item's actual condition to the buyer before they buy it, and would attempt to do at least minimal basic cleaning before sending ti to them and would never send it with pubes sticking out.
The fact a damaged motherboard ever passes open box certification is ridiculous. If it was missing the CPU socket shield, that's also terrible they certified it. They know that has to be there, it's an instant rejection for RMA and has been for a decade.
How photos would change the situation? If they want to scam they can upload good quality stuff pictures and then when you'll return it they'll say that it isn't the motherboard they sent you, that you changed it, etc.
Newegg finally pulled their scummy moves on a dude who's unafraid to be vocal about small issues, let alone calling him a liar to his face and taking $500 from him
Just checked my order history and i’ve been their customer since April 2002. Almost 20 years. Thank you Steve and the Gamer Nexus team for bringing this to my attention. Even though I’ve never had any return issues with them, but knowing how severe this issue is, I don’t want to wait until it’s my turn. I’m no longer their customer either.
Almost 10 years for me. I've spent several thousand dollars during that time and I'm done as well. I thought they were the less evil choice over amazon, but apparently that's not the case anymore. Has it been downhill since they sold out a few years ago? They used to be champions of frivolous patent suits.
Been a customer for 7 years, this has also happened to me, I’m relatively certain the hit rate is high if you ever attempt to rma motherboards in particular. Also, Newegg wont handle warranty or even doa most of the time and you’ll have to deal with the long process of contacting the manufacturer and sending products back to China yourself. Newegg has fallen far from grace
Can i just say thank you? Instead of taking their filthy bribe money you chose to look out for us who dont have a leg to stand on. THANK YOU AND YOUR TEAM. Good health and well wishes to you and yours this Christmas!
Yea hopefully the lower level employees that dealt with Steve don’t specifically get in trouble. They were just following the bogus policies the company itself put in place.
Yes, I would do a charge back from my credit card company if you used a credit card, but they would likely ban you as a customer after that, but at least you get your money back.
@@solarbirdyz I ended up finding that while browsing the products. I reckon I’ll grab a brand new mouse mat and a brand new anti-static wrist strap. Both of which I would actually be able to make use of.
I once managed to accidentally scam Newegg. When I was first building my pc (2020), I ordered sleeved cable extensions from them and someone somehow put my shipping label on the wrong package so I was a bit shocked when I got an rtx 2060 in the mail. Needless to say, I reordered the cables, I got a 2060 for about $50, and I resold the 1660ti I ordered days before.
Eee I hate to think what happened to that poor employee lmfao. I've done that when shipping small Etsy orders, I can't imagine the disorganization needed to fuck that up in a big business.
Is that a legit course of action in the USA? ... I could assume it is if Newegg CBA to contact you and request a return. If they had done that, I am pretty sure you would have had to. (I remember some ancient stuff on this topic about credit cards sent unrequested.)
That's not scamming. That's someone in Newegg's Shipping department not doing their due diligence on making sure the right shipping label goes with the product they are sending out who is likely a third-party vender/shipper.
I got scammed by a 3rd party seller on Newegg. They faked a shipping number showing the item delivered. Took them 4 weeks to get my money. I have been their customer for 10 years. Not anymore. Very frustrating.
Always the 3rd party sellers. I had to email Newegg three times for them to wring the neck of the seller to refund my money on a non-working monitor. Took 2 weeks of back and forth just to get my money back. Never trusting 3rd parties on that website ever again.
i had a similar issue, someone was selling cheaper ram as more expensive, cause who actually inspects hundred dollar items.... they then pretended to not get the RMA.... and newegg had no issues with the fact the seller was actively scamming people.
This literally just happened to me. I didn't realize I was buying through a 3rd party until after the fact. The item got a "shipping label" so the site showed it as being shipped, but never actually picked up for delivery. By the time I tried to contest and get my money back? The seller doesn't exist on the site anymore. Money's just gone.
@@HunkMine I have lived in this home for 8 years and never had something stolen in the mail. Crime rate here is so low you don't even have to lock your car. Also it was only after two weeks of not receiving my item that the 3rd party then created the fake tracking number. Trust me. I can tell a scam from a stolen package.
The last time I orderd from Newegg, I purchased over a grand worth of equipment. The equipment never showed up on my doorstep despite Newegg stating it was delivered. I filed a police report and checked with UPS who claimed that it was never shipped to them despite me having a tracking number and a delivery notice from Newegg. Newegg refused to do anything abou this to make it right. And that was the last time I will ever buy from Newegg.
I basically experienced the same thing, the difference was that I had my delivery stole from my door and they closed my support claim because i didnt have a police report at the time of filing and refused to reopen the claim. It took the threat of a chargeback and the police report to get a replacement. I told support they should have 1. unmarked boxes after X amount of money 2. After X amount of money they should default to having clients sign for the package to avoid theft.
As a Brit, I am absolutely amazed by the US delivery system! Our delivery peeps will knock for any package that doesn't fit through the letter box (we don’t have a box at the end of our drive/garden like you guys, we have a hole in the door xD) and if you don’t answer, they’ll try give it to a neighbour and post a note through your door saying who has it so you have proof and your neighbour can’t screw you. If the neighbour doesn't answer, they post a different card through your door telling you to collect the item from your nearest depo. And the delivery person will take it back to that depo. This is ALL types of deliveries whether it’s tracked or basic second class 😅 And it’s all companies as well. AND! If you can’t collect you can request a redelivery 😂
I've been a Newegg customer since 2012, and I stopped using them last year when this very issue happened to me in a nearly identical way... unopened packaging returned and rejected due to "damage". I am glad this is coming to light finally. Thank you.
Did they send it back? And if so, what damage was it? Did it look faked like someone purposely rubbed something on the socket? Or like a noob f'ked it up? I have seen people damage motherboards, but not as commonly as they're claiming. I sent like 100 back to Dell over 8 years doing repairs in an office and never had one returned. I know of co workers who damaged boards and got them returned, so this really does look like a scummy Newegg issue.
@@volvo09 they did send it back to me. No idea if the damage was done on purpose by them, and I'm not claiming it was. My main issue is they knew the box wasn't opened, so how was I responsible? I chalked it up to lesson learned and have simply never bought from them since.
I have actively avoided buying from Newegg for nearly a decade. My tolerance for bad business practices is really low, so I got out early. I'm astonished how bad they've gotten.
Weird. I've bought from NE for years, never had the slightest problem. Even bought a 2060 Ti right before the 30 series came out, returned it, no problems. Recommended them to my cousin when he was looking to buy some SSDs. His business warehouse is addressed funky, they got delivered to the wrong place. NE didn't hesitate, sent him new SSDs without any problem. Truth be told, no company can always be perfect, and satisfy everyone. That's just life
Newegg has always been scummy. It's just that we hear more reports now than 20 years ago because more people are buying computer parts and talking about their problems on social media. I stopped buying from the 20 years ago because they sold me a piece of shit and wouldn't refund it, and they've been in business 21 years.
@@lindasherman9921 I can’t say how they were 20 years ago, but the reason they have declined so much recently is because they were bought out by a Chinese company who basically cut all customer service budget and prioritized profit over all else, leading to a super shitty experience for their customers.

Thank you! We're happy to see more and more reviewers in this position, too. Our small community has been able to establish some independence to be able to do this.
7:30 I have a tip Ive learned when dealing with support at times like this. When they say "I'll have to contact someone by email, whatever", say "would you mind if I stay on the line while you write it, to make sure my concerns are represented". It should only take a minute right? So you kind of confirm they actually DO IT and dont immediately forget. There is no easy way for them to answer that other than just saying no, so then you request a different option still.
vids like this are why i love Steve and GN. They don't WANNA do vids like this, but when a company forces their hand, they always look out for the consumer and tell us the truth when they could easily opt for some kind of "good will" deal with these company's after they realize who they're dealing with.
I appreciate Steve for having the integrity to still move forward with this video even after being refunded. I'm sure Newegg would have been happier to throw money and/or resources at him, a point he knows but still has too much integrity
GN: "If you make the very busy delivery person stand there while you open the box and inspect 2000 pins, you're an a** hole." So well said I can't even handle it.
@@Channel-gz9hm shit, They sold it? that and them being public traded explains everything. They used to focus on C/S now its to quote a classic rap tune, All About the Benjamins
BOOM, I like this. Pandemic style, surprised how many “free” items I’ve gotten because they’ve been broken and it cost more to ship back than to just write off. Thankful for companies like that! (Not abusing systems, just literally been told to throw, use, or donate an item that was “broken” but not unusable, like a pump on any bathroom item) edit: bathroom item, nothing specific, lol
Yep. For a time, they outdid Amazon with things like upgrading shipping for free so ground orders got 2-day instead. Newegg excelled at delivering beyond customer expectations and Amazon struggled for a long time to compete. Where Amazon won was by having warehouses everywhere and their ruthless pricing. Rather than try to fight that, Newegg went down a different, darker path. It is not the same company it once was.
I refuse to buy from Newegg since they sold me a broken prebuilt (it had GPU problems) with one of those potentially explosive Gigabyte PSUs. Sure I got a refund but they tried to dump a dangerous product on me! Sad thing is they may stick that PSU into another computer and sell it and kill another GPU or even worse set something flammable on fire and burn down a ton of stuff or kill someone! How are neither Gigabyte or Newegg getting in trouble for continuing to sell this product instead of doing a recall?!
As for "inspect the box while the postal worker is still there"... I have lived in several countries, from Canada and the US to several European countries. Never have postal workers or deliveries people waited long enough for us to open and inspect computer related material. Ever. They deliver and they go. If you're lucky, you can be there for the delivery. That's it. Steve is right.
And yet it seems that is still official theoretical policy, obsoleted by time pressures for sure. But long ago there weren't abundant video cameras you could use to film unboxing. I guess back then businesses simply typically trusted the customer more, although I also remember exceptions from that.
I remember the first time I asked a UPS driver to wait while I opened and inspected an expensive item. He literally laughed at me and said he had no idea who I'd been talking to but they don't do that. You can refuse to accept the package due to visible exterior damage, that's it. They literally do not care if the interior is damaged because once you open it, they aren't responsible anymore.
There's videos of postal workers sprinting from the door so they can get to the next delivery - no fucking shot he's standing there well they "count the pennies"
I’d always heard horror stories about Newegg. I had decided I’ll never buy from them again after they shameless started pawning off exploding PSU’s on unsuspecting customers and now this just cements it
With giant competitors like amazon, you'd think newegg would understand they can win through good customer service. Guess not. RIP Newegg. Micro Center is my new friend. (I don't work for MC BTW)
Sony/Playstation does the same thing they'll allow people to make 1,000s of purchases while suspended but won't let people refund anything while suspended and then people contact support and they just get told that they are suspended and won't refund your money and won't tell you why you are suspended and also you still can't transfer ps5 saves thru usb PS: Newegg I always saw as a scam almost always excessive prices and always charging shipping on anything to alaska
I "won" the Newegg lottery for a 3080ti video card in November. When the card arrived it was in an opened box with all of the documentation and accessories missing. Luckily when I saw that the box it was in was closed with packing tape and was generally damaged I recorded my opening of the box. They attempted to claim that it was impossible that the item was previously sold I sent the video to them. They accepted the RMA and around two weeks later I got an actual new card.
Many cards were sold after the bitcoining mining thing took a hit for awhile. No doubt you probably got a card that was used in a bitcoin mining operation.
@@tomlindo2863 Newegg isn't the only scummy company. Definitely record any new expensive parts. Takes 5 extra seconds to hit record then stop, but can save thousands of dollars.
Plus: Every time I needed to do a RMA, Newegg customer support made the process almost unbearable. Many times I had to 'escalate' my request to 'supervisors' that tried every trick in the book to stop my RMA. Nine out of ten times this was done when I was retuning Unopened items. The HDD enclosure was just the last straw in a long line of poor support from Newegg. Again, Newegg is the Last Place on earth one should consider buying anything from, I trust Alibaba more than I do Newegg!
I used to work for a company that discovered fraud in their RMA department, where an inspector would "scrap" a part due to false damage, and then pass the item to a shipper that sent the item offsite for sale on eBay. I wonder if something similar might be happening here.
Quite a common scam in big box retailers. Currys in the UK was rife with it for a long time. Years ago when Sony still had VAIO they refused to stock Currys for a while because so many RMA's would "vanish"
@@MoA-Reload... when you say "so many", are you referring to the fact that Sony in a single year lost over 40,000 (Yes forty THOUSAND) RMA'd items including Playstations from Currys alone?

I got my 6800XT from a Newegg shuffle in March of last year. I remember I got the notification email for it literally an hour before the shuffle expired. Luckily I was in a position to actually go through with the purchase before the timer ran out, but it was still a pretty shit experience. This is going to cost them SO much more money than a single mother board, or even, potentially, all the items they've ever illegitimately refused to RMA. They certainly won't be getting my money again. Not a great move, NewEgg.
Yep - great timing on this video considering I’m about to be in the market to build a new PC for the first time in ~6 years. Definitely not giving NewEgg any money.
They lost my business with the forced 3000 series graphics card bundles that came with exploding PSUs. Garbage company that doesnt care about anything but shoveling shit out the door and hoping a customer gets covered in it.

Hard to expect excellent service from underpaid, outsourced workers who do not give a flying fuck about doing a good job - and rightfully so. They are not professional lie-detectors. And RMA scamming on the customer end is probably just as common as open box scamming on the seller end.

Similar thing happened to me when shipping a return to Newegg. I had "won" a combo on the shuffle but found a better deal while the package was being shipped. This lead to me returning the products back to newegg. Both products were unopened in their original boxes when I shipped them back. Imagine my surprise when I get hit with a restocking fee for one of the products being deemed as opened by their warehouse; I started a chat with customer service where the representative told me that because the warehouse crew said one of the packages was opened, they could not remove the fee. I had pictures of the packages at the shipping facility and argued that the packages had to be unopened because I had them returned as refused shipments (this can only be done through the original label if the package is still sealed). It took an escalation and me emailing the pictures before they removed the fee from the shipment. Real fun company to work with!

@@colonelwirehead2045 I doubt it will be a problem. Honestly this video is a bit over the top, while I am not saying that Newegg did the right thing here. He has admitted to spending tens of thousands of dollars with them and never having a problem. Moral of the story is not to buy open box.
This happened to me with a Z690 Hero motherboard as a part of the ASUS recall of the product. They also claimed bent pins (despite the unrelated fire hazard that this board poses). This is currently in dispute, but Newegg is adamant that there was user-caused damage. I asked for pictures, which they said they would check on and send, but I never received a single one. In over 20 years of building, I have never bent a pin - nor have I had an issue with Newegg in those 20 years. I'm out $600 unless I win my dispute, and Newegg is out an 18+ year customer.
This sounds to me like an elaborate scam from the werehouse employees. The most concerning part to me is the fact they don't return said "damaged" products, which leads me to think that they keep them for themselves. A lot of people should be fired for this.
I read earlier today that an Amazon warehouse manager got busted running a scheme where he ended up with over a quarter million dollars in merchandise (PC parts, mostly) and resold them. He got sentenced for it, today or yesterday I think. May have just officially presented charges against him, I only skimmed it. I wouldn't be surprised if the same things going on here, though.
1000% this. Amazon warehouses/drivers have been getting busted more and more for the same thing. Having worked in retail/food as well as been around sketchy people my whole life, the warehouse/support was my first thought in this whole scheme.
I don't think they would take them everything is tracked. even after it leaves the warehouse to a return center, the return center makes up pallets and sells those off to someone else. Everyone has a bad day and screws something up , being honest about might cost them their entire job but lying keeps the blame off any one person. Its not right but likely the cause.
I can honestly say I've bought most hardware for my builds on Newegg. No more. I'm sure, just like you said, they were hoping you were one of the helpless people like the rest of us. Thank you for using your platform for the small people. You could have easily gotten in touch with someone in media or something behind the scenes and let them fix their "mistake" behind the curtain... Again, THANK YOU for bringing them to light.
Same. Although the last thing of note was a 1080ti. Haven't been able to afford a new system yet lol but no more. Hell I'll drive an hour and a half to micro center before I use Newegg again now.
Same here. I just spent 1600 dollars building a new rig through Newegg. I still needed some case fans and adapters. Didn't even look on newegg for them. Never again.
I decided to never shop at New Egg again when THEY decided to scalp video cards with the shortage. Then it was even more laughable when they created the Shuffle... forcing customers to buy stale un-needed products along with products marked up 20-60% because of demand. I hope this causes them to go the same path as Fry's Electronics... out of business
I absolutely love how you not only hold these companies accountable, openly, and publicly, and shame them for treating customers the way they do. Esp. those without a voice. But you ALSO, flat out tell ppl who post ignorant, snarky, and completely non-sensical comments... that they're dumb assholes, and clearly live in a fairytale land... And you do not mince words about it, at all. Keep doing the good work, guys... lmfao Good shit, on all fronts.
I stopped shopping with them the moment I saw the price-gouging for the New Egg Shuffle, but now I'm going to start actively telling people to shop elsewhere. Absolutely ridiculous, predatory, negligent, and most likely malicious. Wow.
I always find it strange when companies pick these kinds of hills to die on. Customer spends tens of thousands of dollars with us? Let's screw them on a fairly small purchase so badly they'll never shop with us again!
It's what happens when young college grads are put in CEO or upper management positions before having real world working experience to go along with the book material they supposedly read.
Newegg didn't even want to accept a return of 10 128gb unused/unopened packaging of USB drives, Said they all were used and have been written on. But all the drives I bought never even been opened.
I got an Intel mobo from NewEgg. Upon inspection, I discovered a bent pin right out of the box. NewEgg played this RMA game with me, and wouldn't give me my money back or exchange the board, but the original board did get returned to me. (semi) Fortunately, the only issue it seems to cause is I don't have dual channel memory, and this wasn't going to be a game rig at any rate. So my computer is actually functional, and faster than the six-year-old machine it replaced - just not quite as fast as it COULD be. Still soured on NewEgg, though. Damned shame, too. They used to be a decent source.
Bet the guy who denied the return got fired because he did it to a guy with popular tech RUclipsr upper management was like damnit billy you know we only screw the little people so there's no repercussions 😂
Man, it's crazy how hard Newegg has fallen. I remember in the early 2000s that Newegg was pretty much the only recommended e-tailor to buy from because of their amazing customer service and good prices. All that is gone now. Imagine spending so much time building up a great name just to throw it away for no reason whatsoever.
They used to be the gold standard. They got bought out by a Chinese company and went straight to the toilet right after that. Now I avoid them like the plague.
I am about to start ordering parts for my new pc, guess I'll delete my cart on Newegg and look elsewhere. Thanks for standing up for the regular people out there. Thanks Steve!
or at the absolute very least, "open box" items are a 100% no-go. Their practices in the past two years, also potentially a 100% no go on anything, but ymmv.
@@mikerzisu9508 I have purchased from Amazon and got a motherboard which had half of the socket pins bent. It was obviously an open box but sold as new. When they emailed me about the damage I said, yep that is why i am returning this 'brand new' item with no damage anywhere except the socket. All the boxes were pristine.
This makes me sad… I bought the parts for my first PC build from Newegg, back in the day when it seemed like 90% of online parts dealers were scams. Over the years they’ve given me amazing customer service, but I guess they’ve decided it’s not worth the effort to keep existing customers
It doesn't matter though because most people are idiots that are basically not paying any attention. It's one small part of why the "most popular" card would still be complete junk like an RTX 3060 even if the pandemic and mining surge never occurred. It's also something that in Steve's case is "open box." I purposely don't buy stuff like that because I natively don't trust people or companies not to scam me and automatically expect the markdown to not be anywhere near risk. All this is going to do is convince more people who see this not to buy open box and to just rely on mnfr warranty while assuming newegg's is busted. That won't stop the many millions of people that don't watch this channel. There's a reason all these corporations are still making record profits no matter the garbage and literal fire hazards they put out. ....yes I am absolutely jaded after dealing with tech companies
Saw the headline, immediately knew what this was about. Newegg has been doing this for *ten years*. Minimum. I know this because that's how long it's been since I personally had this happen. This was not an accident. I ALSO tweeted at them, again 10 years ago (more or less), and they assured me "this is not how we do things" and I blew them off. Obviously, this is in fact how they do things, since I saw reports of similar incidents going back a couple years before even then. Edit: In my case, they sent me the board back with what appeared to be an imprint of a large philips head screwdriver in the pin array.

@@Plant_Parenthood You surely know, OMG, you feel so helpless and fucked around. The worst one for me, I think it was a cellphone company anyway, I called, told them I have issues hearing on my phone, and that heavy accents in general, throw me off, idk why, just how it is, anyway, once they couldn't get me to hang up from non stop transfers only to be on hold for another 30 min, they transferred the call to a foreign call center where I couldn't hear nor really understand the poor guy. I got pissed, but then I reminded myself, it's not this guys fault im half deaf and kind of retarded. But yeah, hours and hours of playing on the phone in situations like that only to be told my few hundred bucks is lost an no one can help or refund. That few hundred bucks to me, and the other regular ass job having people is a lot of damn money to lose. To a billion dollar company, it's nothing. Sick of this shit. My blood is boiling right now thinking about it. I had a brand new Asus overpriced PC catch fuckin fire in my sleep. Think I got anything from that one either other than fucked and and silenced? I literally saved my money for almost 5 years to buy that fucking thing only for it catch fire via the GReat Wall PSU when I was ASLEEP. They offered to "replace the PSU" I was gonna go through with it, but I had a spare shittier one laying around and said fuck it. They win, AGAIN. Almost kill me, my neighbors, burn all my livlihood down and they didn't fucking offer ANYTHING other than if i ship them the PSU they will send a replacement IF THEY FOUND IT TO BE AT FAULT and we all know what would have happened then. I have stories like this for days. But yeah, my hatred does come from experience. And i sincerely, whole heartedly, fucking appreciate this channel so much for being like this.

@@DrMurdercock They are a fucking plague. Every mid size or larger company has switched to a garbage customer support model because they know we can't do anything about it. Airlines are the fucking worst about it. I work at the front desk of a hotel and Westjet Travelliance called to book 15 rooms last week but never sent me any credit card or direct billing information so I had a bunch of guests show up at the hotel and no way to pay for any of their rooms. I tried calling westjet travelliance and they just had one of those robotic voice menus that dick you around in circles until you get frustrated and hang up. I eventually found the secret path through the menu to reach an actual human being but they turned out to be some useless jackass in a call center with a script. Since my questions weren't on their script, they couldn't help me. Eventually I dug out an old credit card number from 2 weeks before, when WJ travelliance sent us guests and I charged all the rooms to that. Within 5 minutes, I got an angry phone call from them asking why I charged the card. I was livid by the end of that shift

the fact they refunded you after finding out who you are actually bothers me more than the fact they cornholed you to begin with. step one was shady, step two was mega-overdrive-sleeze-factor > 9000
Yeah. They're not doing it because they accepted they screwed up. They're doing it because they know 6 figure+ viewers will see this and likely won't order from them unless it's their last option.
I made a huge oversight and ordered a ASUS mobo that was openbox. I get it and they don't include the backplate and its covered in used thermal paste. I call and was told too bad for me. I also notice the original RMA sticker is still on the bag and it says that its dead. I ask them to look up the RMA to find out the issue. Rep tells me that it was tested and in perfect working order. I build the entire pc to find out its dead. Now dealing with this lady in the chat who takes over 5 minutes to respond and isn't helpful at all. I hate myself for ordering from this company...
I remember having Newegg claim this exact same thing when I was a penny-less college student. I guess they figure they can get away with claiming you bent a bin given how easy it is to do.
A nearly identical situation involving a motherboard happened to me 10 years ago with Newegg. Haven’t done business with them since. Nice to see they’re up to their same old tricks.
His complaint isnt even newegg's fault though. At best, he got some bad luck, and looked suspicious because of basic internet protocol safety. I would bet he had a bad time because he sounded like he wasnt being responsible, and was wanting to mail it back an expensive product just because he felt like it.
@@Nick1921945 he shouldn’t have to be ran around in circles and lied to if he simply wants to return the board and get his $500 back. It’s basic fucking customer service dude, god damn why are you defending this bullshit?!
I had a case of 2 HDD Seagate bought on Amazon but shipped by a "store on Amazon". received the items were both not working. Issued the return and the vendor was kind of stalling the refund. Opened a ticket on Amazon customer support, received a real person call within 20 minutes who said was escalating the issue (we were getting close to 30 days limit). Amazon refunded me the money paid solely on the proof of shipment of the parcel from my side, no question asked
The baffling stupidity of people saying to open the box to make sure there are no problems or that you even got the right product??? So I open it, find its broken, but can't RMA it because they tell me I broke it
Not even that. You can’t determine it’s functionality just by ‘inspecting’ it. You need to do a full test of the motherboard powering on and testing BIOS, I/O, etc. The most reasonable and logical thing to do is keep it in the box, and that’s exactly what he did, and even that isn’t enough. It’s a stupid argument from all perspectives.
@@kkiwi8559 not only in box, but in box in another box unopened. like, he could have sued over that and asked for industry-wide damages, and theres a really good chance the court would have sided with him based on the huge number of people that this happens to.
it's a good idea to film the unboxing no matter who you order from, shit happens and retailers can't control every asshole employee who decides to steal something or not give a damn about someone returning a Pentium 4 instead of a Core i7, chances are you will get that Pentium instead.
Tried to post this a few times lol, keeps getting pulled... But yhea my last mobo from Asus, I got it off amazon for the reason of their complex market corner scheme of a return policy that at least acknowledges that they are essentially a 3rd party dumpsterfire hole... That Asus has no sticker on the box or the static bag is concerning as hell, specially for a 450 dollar motherboard. I started a cross ship return immediately and was able to compare the two, finding the second in worse condition than the first one (box bruising, pins poking holes in bag... not a seal sticker to be found anywhere). I tried to pick the least screwed up of the two, mighta picked wrong as I haven't booted yet* and when I socketed the CPU, the socket was popped out from the board... it did pop back in though? Did this after learning that at least I'm not alone in asus not having a box or static bag seal of any kind... but basically if I had bought this from newegg, how the hell would I be able to prove this WASN'T an open box? Part of that in this case is asus lowering the packing standards, but the egg predating on these things is exactly why I go through with the bs of amazon... The only reason amazon has been able to get away with it's transition from a first party trusted to a shady random pawn shop is because of it cornering the market with it's logistics at an absurd human and monetary cost. The idea that B and H and Egg and others can get away with this same level of restock and shipping fees with the reliability of craigs but not in person... this is a low bar that I really wish people would stop feeding into. Hell I wish people would stop feeding into any of the low bars, the hyper-normalizing of this crap is not helping my pre-Milton Friedman idealistic fantasy of capitalism, much less my faith in human... yup just humans, like conceptually. I still to this day have no idea if the two BRAND NEW boards I had, were even that... were they open box? RMA refurbished? No idea, but I know if I had gotten it from Newegg it would have cost me money just to find out the lack of sticker was a norm, and I'm sure egg never takes advantage of the fact that asus ships a 450 buck brand new board with no tamper protection seals on the box or static bag... never mind potential humidity in the warehouse, cause those boxes were sccccufffffed. From what I hear, new egg is just as bad as amazon fullfill as far as breakage goes, so, at this point... please people stop supporting the efforts of gaslighting the lower bar! Apologies for the strange language and namings, trying to keep this from getting censored, hopefully this time! *(turned into a real slow build, really wish I hadn't waited but I had to get the ram from newegg on account of amazon's lovely mislabelling... and being out of the kind needed after returning that, meh... realized I was gonna have to underclock it and since gskill switched to skhyn for its new modulus, had no guide or program for the timings at the time... thus put it off lol)
@RogerWilco99 Cause they gotta win capitalism by the quarter. You can't win unless you get ALL the money... by the quarter. Dunno what happens if you don't win, but been seeing a lot of companies throw themselves into the garbage the last 20 years, much more so the last 10, in the pursuit of getting ALL the money... short term. This is to a point that would make Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, JP Morg... all ruthless capitalists who would step on anyone in their way, in the name of building their empires, these guy's would be rollin in their graves if they hadn't owed the bones to satan... I feel like there might be something supernatural goin on in the speculative market that maybe us poors don't know, cause these twats go ham like a wrecking ball (or a junkie) in the pursuit of this tiny short term hollow win... Granted there are so many things in place that they themselves never really suffer in person, and they may be immune to shame (doesn't explain why they try so hard to win though...) Eventually given these safety nets come from the real money, things, people land... like it's gonna drain that to a point where someone might have to start handin out some peasant cake, but seems like until that happens this is just gonna be how it is... at least until we start demanding proper fruit pie, or pound cake instead of this angel food fluff they keep trying to feed us (and we buy, both happily, ideologically, and even worse... begrudgingly)
I love this fucking video. Ruin these people as hard as you can. I'm so tired of the normal person getting completely screwed by bigger companies. We need way more of this.
Yeah i agree, screw these scammers. One company here in Vancouver wont even honor a return even if it's a dud on delivery just because it's covid/pandemic matter, canada computers *cough*.Also never buy an open box specially when it only like 10 percent cheaper than a brand new one.
I stopped shopping there when they started the “ newegg shuffle” winning the chance to buy an overpriced gpu at scalpers price usually bundled with unwanted items. Terrible business practice.
They've been making a killing from the shortages, huge markups over MSRP, revitalizing the business. And yet they still continue these other predatory practices. Wonder who actually owns and runs the company these days.
thanks for being the best at always calling out companies without worrying about relations with them and fear of not getting a sponsor from them, keep it up
I love how you call out scandalous companies on their BS, and bring all that shit to light for the community to see. Not out of spite, but out of genuine concern for us. Thank you so much. You guys rock
In all honesty, this video is not all its made out to be. The item was open box, he didn't notice it was open box. Maybe it is damaged. However he retaped the box that he was sent, so its hard for them to say that the box wasn't opened before. Then the issue is whether or not the item realy was opened. I agree that they made a mistake here and fucked off not sending the item back. This is shitty on their part. Don't purchase open box items, its a pretty good rule of thumb. They have always been random used shit on Newegg for the past 10 years. Nothing has changed. I haven't had an issue with new products that were broken or new stuff I bought and returned.
I bought a ton of stuff there for years until I got a "new in box" pair of headphones which didn''t come with a box. I went to return them and they said there was a $58 fee they would charge because it wasn't being returned with the box. I confirmed with them that it didn't come with a box, but she didn't care and insisted on the charge to return it without one. I cancelled a few years ago and deleted the account and refuse to buy there ever again because of that.
There's countless stories posted all over reddit, usually a newegg staff member will come into the thread and ask the OP to message them to get it figured out, but you shouldn't have to make a post online to finally get their attention.
I've built over a dozen systems, and most if not all of the components for all of them came from newegg and I have NEVER had a problem with them. They've always been solid gold in my experience. So so sooooo weird.
I've never had a problem, but I've never tried to rma something. I think that's the difference. Most of my recent build was from MC this time though. They put up with my returns all the time.
Great video. Every company should treat EVERY customer like they’re an influencer with 1M+ subs. They do this shit to people thinking there won’t be any blowback and they can just get away with treating their customers like shit. They need to be called out more often.
Which is why I like channels like Nexus coz they get stuff like this while undercover and thus are treated like us regular folks but lil do the retailers know they may screw with the wrong one...
Tbh you can't expect white glove service from every company. As a business you can typically only focus on two of these: quality, speed or cost. Competing with Chinese companies who win on cost typically means focusing on customer service (speed and quality) but charging more. I agree Newegg screwed up on this one. They'll never be as cheap as the Chinese companies so they should focus on customer service.
but on the flipside, Amazon's no questions asked return policy leads to a lot of fraud and them reselling returns that are missing accessories and/or obviously used because they don't bother checking stuff.

11:47 also legally speaking it's not the customer's problem if it arrives damaged. It's the seller's problem and they can go after the shipper for recouping costs.
Yup. Not only can they keep the money, but go to the shipper and claim it was damaged in transit to get more money. Granted this /can/ work both ways... but it's a lot easier for a large company that ships thousands of items a day to say "this arrived damaged" a hundred times a year, than an individual at a residence.
I bought a computer from Newegg last year, never opened it, it wasn't open box either, brand new. Returned it after deciding to not do a review on it, they wanted to charge me a 15% restocking fee because they said it was "used". It took 2 hours on the phone and 3 different people before they finally issued me a store credit for the 15% they kept.

THIS! This is why we need independent media outlets, reviewers and writers. Consumer protection cannot happen only via laws, regulations and policies. Companies need public eyes scrutinising them on their wrongdoings. Newegg can't get away from the repercussions this time.
Newegg has been on my "hard-no" list for years after they screwed me over back in like 2014 or 2015. What I bought, isn't what was shipped, and they wouldn't accept the return because I couldn't return what they never shipped. Between this, that, and the third party crap they pull now they're not worth dealing with.
had the same problem. They shipped me ECC RAM instead of regular RAM and then refused to refund me because they claim it was the wrong item. Thinking back I shoulda just kept the ECC RAM since it was worth more and I could've resold it, but instead they kept my money and the RAM.
Don't buy one period lol they literally sent me the wrong computer my first time purchasing not even open box. Then it stopped working within the first 20 days. They replaced it with the actual real PC that was in the original photo. But the fan wasn't even plugged in or compatible. Then they sent me the exact same fan AGAIN. Like it works but it's not actually plugged in it's just touching enough that the fan works. Fucking ridiculous amount of shit I went through with this company lmao.

One of his tech guys told me he didn't like the fact that I was returning a MSI mb for an ASUS mb, and that I, as an employee of the company, was taking advantage of his department. If they can treat their own employees like that, what kind of recourse does a regular customer have?

wow never using newegg again
Newegg is just another Chinese company now.
Things may have changed again by now.
ftc fraud reports. they're easy
I started laughing so hard when you started talking about inspecting 2000 pins while the delivery guy waits
"Hold on, delivery guy - I need to make sure it POSTs! I just need to apply the thermal paste, mount the CPU and cooler, and stick some ram in it, and wait for the other delivery guy to bring the PSU"
Me too. Shit had me dying.
I was about to type something similar
I was a customer for 7 years before I was bit by this exact issue. Also 5 years ago, they will continue this practice.

Luck build strats
Would have been great if the second order was also a 2060.
This happens with anything being shipped, it probably just got stolen in the mail
They used to be good before they got bought out.
This is ALL types of deliveries whether it’s tracked or basic second class 😅
And it’s all companies as well.
AND! If you can’t collect you can request a redelivery 😂
Other than the police report I experienced the same thing with a CPU. $500 down the drain, fuck, Newegg.

I'm in Australia as well and was looking at graphic cards from them due to the lack of them here. Sure as heck not going to them now. I just can't afford to loose $2500 to a scam company. FU Newegg burn in hell...
Is it cheaper to buy from them instead of Australian hardware stores?
@@ThylineTheGay You don't want to know what the price of any electronics in Australia are like.
@@ThylineTheGay Australia has some of the worst availability of tech hardware in the world. Not only do we simply have almost nothing to choose from, it's often cheaper to buy from overseas, shipping included (but we get screwed if we get a DOA or have to return something).
I saved several hundred dollars buying these NAS drives from the US, having them shipped 10,000km across the pacific ocean, and delivered to my front door compared to walking down to the local store and buying them (they weren't even in stock).
That being said, I ain't buying anything more expensive than around $300 from Newegg again after this video.
Oof size: Large
Can you dispute it with your credit card company?
Have you tried reporting them to the Better Business Bureau?
600 for the hero??? Good lord I got the z690 rog strix-E (which I cant even use because ddr5 pulled a 3080 on me) for $750 I think lmao
@@nicholasvinen yep. That is the current dispute route I've taken.
This sounds to me like an elaborate scam from the werehouse employees. The most concerning part to me is the fact they don't return said "damaged" products, which leads me to think that they keep them for themselves. A lot of people should be fired for this.
Or, and hear me out, it's part of their internal corporate policy. Unwritten rules and all that.
@@werewolfmoney6602 i was also thinking this
Thanks

I can honestly say I've bought most hardware for my builds on Newegg. No more. I'm sure, just like you said, they were hoping you were one of the helpless people like the rest of us. It doesn't matter though because most people are idiots that are basically not paying any attention.

Tbh you can't expect white glove service from every company. As a business you can typically only focus on two of these: quality, speed or cost. Competing with Chinese companies who win on cost typically means focusing on customer service (speed and quality) but charging more. I agree Newegg screwed up on this one. They'll never be as cheap as the Chinese companies so they should focus on customer service.

had the same problem. They shipped me ECC RAM instead of regular RAM and then refused to refund me because they claim it was the wrong item. Thinking back I shoulda just kept the ECC RAM since it was worth more and I could've resold it, but instead they kept my money and the RAM.
Jesus, a slimy company
@@derelictmusic3218 they never returned the ecc ram - bullshit
damn I hope newegg goes bankrupt very soon
Gamers Nexus is quite literally one of the best things to ever happen to the PC market.
Very true. GN and Hardware Unboxed.
Thanks for your public service content. I was considering buying an open box computer from Newegg, now I'm warned !
It was built by ABS so probably their fault but still
The fact that they refunded after learning who he is, and what might happen, is maybe the slimiest thing they did.
Have to disagree. Slimiest was having no policies in place that prevent this in the first place, then making it right when caught is just what any merchant should do.
- 10% in their stock,in the last 2 days POOF 300milions into air
I went from zero respect to negative respect at that point
@@stinkycheese804 they only made it right because they were caught *by someone with a large audience*. Any action they take based on that is worthless.
Honestly we love when you go after companies, shows you give a damn
I live in the UK and was considering using Newegg UK as a new supplier. Having heard this, I have now reconsidered and will stick with the suppliers that I have dealt with in the past which I haven't had problems with. Fortunately in the UK, I do have a choice of about 4 or 5 other companies to deal with at competitive prices. Thank you for the video.

use PayPal amigo
@@moss8448 relying on PayPal doesn't help nor change anything in the long term. Boycotting Newegg does as it directly impacts their bottom line.
@@earthtaurus5515 mostly agree about the PayPal thing and yes not doing business with ppl like that most certainly affects their bottom line...on top of that you know as well as I do that ppl as buyers try to scam businesses all the time, not saying that is the issue bespoken here but I'm sure NwEgg was trying to avoid unscrupulous buyers.
