    I've been looking for other R2 owners! That R2 is so cool!!! I"m so happy that I found this page.
    A few years ago, I purchased a 1971 Subaru R2 Serial number 00002. It came with a custom trailer that was paint matched and built out of the back of an R2. It took me a while to get it started, but it runs ok now, although people give me dirty looks at the stoplight because of the smoke😁
    I need a passengers side window for it so I can drive it without rain getting inside, but i love the car. I'm not sure if its possible to post a pic here, but id sure love to show her off.

    I can't think of a better way to film a car show. No one is going to be annoyed by him driving around the show constantly. No like if he was in a Cube or Suzuki Ciaz or something.

    I love the R2 because of a story on the Taiho Shichauzo manga. There the R2 revives an motorcycle engine upgrade, so it smokes the competition. Anyway, I loved the story back in those early 1990s and the fact that I thought it was a Fiat 500 at first. They kept calling it a R2 so when internet arrived I altavisya-ed it and found out.

    I hate the idea of scrapping a car. I always imagine that there's someone out there somewhere who would absolutely love to have it or have the parts from it. I mess around with the z32 platform quite a bit and I have owned over 40 of them. Most of which have been parts cars. But when I do scrap one... I make sure to save every usable part right down to nuts and bolts and even if it's wiring. It's gotten so bad that my barn, three out buildings, two garages, a storage unit, and most of the spare rooms in my house are full of z32 parts. 😂 I may be a hoarder... But when all the parts of a particular car are gone, they're gone. A lot of these older cars... Nobody is reproducing parts for them and when someone needs a part they have to find someone who's been holding onto parts for years. And I guess that's where someone like me comes in. I've sent parts and pieces of various z32s all over the world. And that's a car that was somewhat mass produced. Imagine trying to find parts for this thing in the video. I would imagine that it's almost, if not completely, impossible.

    cool :). i get it with the parts, few months back i bought an mazda 323/familia BD, it has been sitting for past 20 years so it needed...and still needs some work, wich means parts. luckily im pretty succeful with hunting down the correct stuff so far, but some small things here and there i already used from newer mazdas, and even skoda parts, lol. and unsuprisingly, despite the familias outselling the corollas a few times in japan in the early 80s, parts for it literally doesnt exist over there...yet alone the cars itself, lol.

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's exactly that turns me off classic car ownership. (Well, let's pretend that I have money to buy classic cars...) To have a cool yet obscure, old car, but to have it's restoration put on hold as you search for near non-existant parts, is just too much to ask of me

    • @gred_cz
      @gred_cz 2 года назад

      @@wasabicars yeah, i deffo wouldnt buy an old obscure car that needs a full resto, for this sole reason haha. in my case its much more reasonable, while it sat fot 20 years, the engine got started ocasionally, and it was stored indoors, infact based on some clues i gathered it seems like atleast for some time of this period it was used as a display piece at some mazda dealer somewhere in germany, lol. basically the biggest thing i had to deal with was the brakes that were pretty much dead, but other than that it luckyly didnt really needed much haha

    In this day and age where it's actually hard to buy one brand new car due to supply chain shortages, it's better off having many second hand ones and spreading the km's between them to keep them going longer.
    This car is still just a labor of love, but throwing away something that someone else might treasure is just wrong.

      @wasabicars  2 года назад +1

    Oh man this is so amazing! What's shocking to me is that you use a car for only 10 years and rather than scrapping them at the time or sell it. You store it for 3 decades and one day they go yeah i don't care bye car, that's so insane, speaking of your wife, does she still have that rasheen? Like that's a classic now isn't that insane? Ugh about what you asked about the year (lucky you 72 I'd love to have a Mitsubishi Celeste from that year, where they even made back then?) 96 is a good year for kids my age but idk, you know i don't like mkiv supras and post r31 skylines... His restoration series videos on that little R2 are interesting because he chronicles everything. Coincidentally, the first with him pushing it into his workshop somewhat like the thumbnail. Also his cool little Sambar is a bit of a reason to check out his channel as well.

This is a quintessential culture issue, an old school British Isles and Ireland idea that an old hack should be Eternal and Loved, verses progressive post 1870 Japanese ethos of moving with the current new thing.
