Common sense tells me that joining the gossiping (even in the name of protecting Mr Cheng Yi) wouldn't help him, and it would only add pressure on him. I totally agree with these fans. I have not found any evidence that he is so successful today because his fans have been telling his Work Groups who to use as drama directors, producers for his dramas, and which dramas he should choose. It appears that he becomes a popular and superb actor because of his own abilities to select what roles to play, even though he seems to 1) lack background and connections, 2) seemingly lack support from his own agent, 3) not be able to select directors and producers for his dramas. He seems to be an extremely intelligent gentleman who knows how to plan his own future. Furthermore, who was the first to say there are two scripts? Who was the first to say that Mr Cheng Yi doesn't want to be part of the drama? It could be that Mr Cheng Yi didn't announce because he has not made up his mind. He might want to wait until everything is settled before making any decisions. That seems to be his style. Of course , it's not appropriate or even right for the 24 Drama Group to make the announcement when Mr Cheng Yi was not ready to commit himself yet. However even though the 24 Drama Group made the announcement, I don't think that Mr Cheng Yi would sign the contract if he doesn't think it's a good fit for him. Mr Cheng Yi seems to be someone who would not be forced into doing anything that he doesn't feel right. He seems to have his principles. Otherwise, he won't have such good reputation as someone who doesn't seem to follow the mainstream culture in his entertainment circle, which appears to value background and connections much more than talents. He gets to where he is today because he knows what he wants, what is important and how to make the right decision. If there were not so many people (including some of his fans) keep adding their own interpretations on the little information out there, there would not be all these sensational news.
