It's ridiculous. Hockey fans have no idea what these combinations are. It's utterly ridiculous. The faces of the men in the room made it seem like it was a funeral, not an exciting event. Then Bettman ends it with "What sayeth you?" Good grief.
@durango24k I can't imagine what they're doing is a very exciting job 😂 As far the number combinations go, it makes no difference to me as long as the odds and everything are what they say they are (which it is). It's not a very exciting process and I get why the league only broadcasts the results part of things

This is all very confusing, but it sounds like with the redraws the Sharks even tho they had the best odds, still barely squeaked out into getting the 1st pick (kinda typical for the Sharks)!
But nonetheless, I am ecstatic. MacKinnon/McDavid/Bedard/ and now maybe Macklin all in the West, that's crazy!
It is very confusing! But the Sharks already won the 1st pick with the first draw. The numbers picked were 2, 7, 10, 11, and in their fancy little tables that corresponds to San Jose; that's all there is to it!
The reason for all the redraws was actually because the Sharks kept winning and they needed a different team for the 2nd pick lol
Since the NHL "robbed" the Ducks out of pick 1 last year awarding it an original six Chicago.
I wish they would make this part more tv friendly and broadcast it as well.

This lottery and its bouncing balls is also symbolic of the leading role that bouncing pucks and luck determines what happens in hockey, not sheer will, pure skill or any other human factor no matter how anthropocentric we may think. Many factors constitute a contender for Stanley Cup, and elevate some teams above others but then luck throws its shadows over everything and surprises us with a champion who did everything but actually cause their luck. Luck is just a gift from the universe to show human calculation and will power does not by itself ever win the ultimate prize. It would be great to see Sharks become the most improved team next year and develop brand new chemistry on the ice. I would like to think that Mike Grier is responsible for this change of luck in the Sharks but I know the universe too well and it does not care like we do. A GM that cannot take full advantage of this change of luck and surf on its edge is what Sharks need now, so watch Grier take more risks and roll the dice with surprising new coach and draft strategy that won't aim for bottom next year. Sharks fans need their pride restored and suffering from ill fortune ended.

I've seen NHL's lottery drawing in previous years and unless you're a fan of statistical probablilties, it's a pretty dry and dull event.

Most American sport organizations are socialistic, to try and make it more fair and give the organizations more power. Big decisions have to be agreed upon by most of the owners. Surprisingly European Soccer has a super capitalist approach with the whole relegation business and budgets, etc.
